I have been using Meltonian brand cream shoe polish on shoes that are unusual colors (beige, blue, burgundy). It works well and has a lot of color in it.

I did use the clear cream on the green and there is an improvement. Or is there?

On the grey I ended up using pewter polish and it is okay although a bit uneven. I will probably do a second coat today.

Good question! I love colored shoes and have several including some favorite yellow loafers that have a green stain 1 do not know how to fix. Several shoes are colored and suede like orange. I would buy comfortable green flats in a second. I use nail polish to change the color of earrings “. I will use it on the yellow loafers and hope for the best. At least the green spot should be covered.

I haven’t tried one yet, but there are products described as Leather Repair Kits that purport to fill scratches. They have some in bright cheery colors like your shoes. I would only try one on something you would otherwise dispose of.

I use Saphir polish that I buy on Amazon. I've custom-mixed shades to work on a thrifted pink leather jacket* that had some fading in places.

*(Note to self, go find said pink leather jacket. It's cold enough outside now).

Thank you! I will see what I can do with clear cream and maybe Vaseline for the green ones. The yellow don’t have any scuffs yet but some protection is a good idea. The grey I may experiment with.

I think pointed toe flats are prone to scuffing - my sandals don’t have this issue nor boots. Something for me to keep in mind with respect to shoe choice.

I’ve used the sharpie-followed-by-clear process for coloured leather. I’ve used petroleum jelly to restore lustre, but after investing in a collection of good quality clear products (conditioner, mink oil, clear polish) I’m getting better results.

I haven’t had any success on such problems. The worst was my beautiful shiny patent leather cobalt boots which became very scratched. Some kind Fabber suggested trying acetone-free nail polish remover on the scratches but sadly it made them look way worse as they just got a huge white patch instead. As the boots were by then getting misshapen as well it hastened my editing out. I still miss their colour as the replacement sparkly boots were a darker cobalt.
My bright yellow loafers which I was trying to wear more are now 11 years old and have been worn more, now 51 wears, and are looking worse for wear, but the scratches are not too bad and I still get compliments- one today when I wore them. I’m going to live with the scratches until I get tired of the state of the insides of the shoes.
Tarrago or Sharpies or nail polish sound good options?

I use Tarrago but there are lots of other shoe creams around (saphir, collonil). Maybe have a look on Amazon or eBay for the best colour match. They are like paint so you can mix them to adjust the colour. Eg you could try mixing some orange with some yellow to get the marigold colour of your shoes. If you can’t get an exact match I would go a little darker. Fix the scratch then give the whole shoe a layer of the cream so it all matches. It will change the colour slightly but fix the issue.

I had some black patent oxfords and sandals during many working years, and I used black shiny nail polish on the places where the top layers snagged or chipped off. The shiny nail polish trick also worked on hot pink patent sandals, and mint green patent sandals. I was lucky to find the true color matches.

For scuffs on heels, including high heels, markers worked pretty well.

Another source of color product to cover scratches might be the acrylic craft paint found at hobby and craft stores. I’ve successfully mixed colors of that paint to touch up dings and mini gouges on walls, especially where my iron has banged point end into the wall behind my ironing board. If you can mix the correct color, then using a neutral polish could unify the “finish” of the whole shoe.

I hate scuffs and scratches, so when I buy colored leather shoes—and I have a fair number of them—I immediately buy colored shoe cream to match. Tarrago is my go to, but for hard to match colors I use Kelly's, which is made by Fiebings, where I get most of my suede dyes as well.

Have you tried petroleum jelly or white vinegar to remove scuff marks? I've read about these as options but admit I haven't tried it yet myself yet.

Thanks! I went to the cobbler yesterday and they had nothing close to the green or yellow, they had a grey that might work but it is slightly different.

Thanks for the marker idea Katerina that might work!

Thank you Roberta - will check out Amazon:)

Irina - that's frustrating. With the blush oxfords I did use a shoe cream that was close but I didn't find it was perfect. But then they became uncomfortable so I edited them out anyway. I agree, it is a reason to stick to standard colours. I can normally find a brown that is close enough and obviously black is easy.

JAileen - great success!! I agree the metallics can be really good. I know Brooklyn has had success too. I could try a metallic on the grey ones, that could be fun. I am not so attached to them, and would be prepared to experiment.

I first went to my shoe repair person, and there was a display of Tarrago shoe cream, of various colors. It’s also available on Amazon. I’ve used their High Silver Metallic to change several pairs of shoes. They do scuff, but fixing them is super easy - I just use my fingertip. At one point, I thought they were going out of business, but apparently not.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003.....&th=1

That’s my question, too, Sal. I have only a few pairs of colored shoes. One pair in clay color that I loved got scratched and my attempts to find a matching shoe polish, failed. I had to dispose of it. The red one I have now show a few marks and I use a red sharpie and a clear polish.
I don’t know what I will do if I scratch my cream or marigold shoes. This is a reason why I haven’t bought cream boots.

Definitely look on Amazon. I found some shoe creams that were the perfect red for my dark red and my bronze boots. You don't need much, and It will probably out live the boots, but I don't care because it restored the color so well. My brand was TRG (for bronze) and they do offer a yellow cream. The red polish was Tarrago.

Sal, I sometimes use a permanent marker on scuffs, if I find a matching color. Then I polish with clear polish or clear leather balm. This method works also very well on vintage bags, the corners can sometimes be worn. Maybe, you could have some luck with finding a matching green permanent marker.

Hi All

How do you maintain your leather shoes that are a non standard colour? Blacks, browns and whites are easy - I have even found good metallic polish/cream.

But the shoes below I have struggled to locate the correct colour - I have some clear cream to protect, but nothing to cover any scuffs that remove colour.

My yellow mules are still immaculate; the grey sandals have some scuffs at the toe and the green have one or two scrapes at the front. I am okay with some wear (that's life, and shoes are for wearing) but I prefer the colour to be uniform.

I passed on the pink oxfords as they were no longer comfortable given my left foot problems. I still have and wear the other three pairs.

Thanks in advance.
