Love the relaxed, easier silhouettes for you, and your decision to store away the skinnies. I kept my skinnies in holding, for the sole purpose of wearing them with knee high boots. I can’t seem to adjust to the feel of straight leg jeans with knee high boots…

Anyway! I am following your quest for full-length dark wash distress-free denim! Why are they so difficult to find?!

I'll take the high rises! I need them to keep my ample backside covered!
Skinnies are definitely useful in winter to tuck into boots, but when it's that cold, may as well wear cozy ponte instead

Jonesy: Thanks so much for sharing these! They all look great and classic with a bit of a slouch factor.

Fwiw, I just ordered a couple of sizes of the Levis wedgies to try, hoping the the leg-fit is not too awkward on me (I have skinny knees but round calves), as well as one and two sizes down in the Oliver Logan wide legs. Will report back.

Notsaf, I am happy to oblige! I don't wear jeans too often, but here are my current pairs, roughly speaking (I don't collect finds of my actual clothes--I have pulled these from Google because they look identical or close in terms of cut and wash):

1) Citizens of Humanity (COH) Emerson. Mine are a similar wash, but my hems are frayed.

2) COH Charlotte, similar wash to mine. These are classified as a high rise straight cut, though they look like skinnies on the model (mine fit a lot looser).

3) COH Olivia, black rinse. These are a high rise slim, though again, they are looser on me than on the model.

4) Rivet & Thread patchwork jeans, from Madewell.

5) J. Crew slim boyfriend.

6) Gap paper bag waist; I have these in this dark rinse and a light faded one too.

7) Levi's men's 510, sort of similar wash--mine are darker and the fit is sort of a slim straight cut, from maybe 15 years ago!

@ notsaf - I’ve been pondering Levi’s current ‘resurgence’, especially the apparent rise in popularity of 501’s with women 50 yo and up. Nostalgia? Classic dressing? Or just another version of rediscovering all things OG - like certain brands of sneakers, Birkenstock’s, Addidas track suits, etc.

I’m so darn behind the times! Never could wear skinnies due to thicker legs from triathlon and weight training. After a year of Covid lockdown - stress weight loss and no weight/strength training - I went jeans shopping early this year, and loved the fit of Levis 721’s (high rise skinny) and 724’s (high rise straight). I wear the skinny’s like in the product photo and with rugged boots, and the straights with a deep cuff.

Interesting comment about button downs and tucking. I’ve been doing more of that as well.

100% I agree notsaf I miss the predictability of skinnies but I think it's because I had the formula so down pat after years of wear ...

Ha, I put my skinnies in the holding zone at the end of last winter/early spring...and most of them got donated this fall. I kept one or two pairs in case I get an urge to wear them tucked into tall winter boots. Otherwise, I think they'll go. Even my old plaid ponte pants are looking dated to my eye.

Oh, jeans hunting adventures… I’m still on it. I now have 3 pairs of Levi’s ribcage jeans, all in different colors and all with lyocell. Aritzia actually has them in more washes. I ordered from them a white pair in 100% cotton. I don’t know if they will fit the same and will find out some time in mid February! I also ordered a black pair from Massimo Dutti in what looks like the same cut as my blue pair. But sizing is so inconsistent, I ordered them in 2 sizes.

Lisa: worth a try on the Levi's as I saw you are looking to update your denim styles as well!

Rachy: Thanks! I've been fully tucking tees and button-downs and half-tucking pull-over sweaters. Sadly, I can't do long cardigans with these because there's just too much volume, but my blazers still work.

Suz: Sorry you're in the in same boat! These BR one are comfortable enough, but yes the bag out factor is real. I think perhaps I have a longer torso than you do, so the ribcage Levi's sit higher on me for the right cropped length. The fabrication is 99% cotton, 1% elastane, which is just about perfect.

Robin: Thanks! Yes, I really do like a high waist since I do have a longer torso. There are lots of mid-rise varieties though, if you look around.

I tried the ribcage and they were not that great on me -- but I think perhaps I need the cropped version (or need to hem). I very much liked the idea of them.

At the beginning of the fall, I quit skinny jeans cold turkey, packed them all up and put them away in the basement. Given that I used to wear ankle-cut dark wash skinnies practically everyday, this was a big change for me. The last months have been a bit of an adventure in denim. Posts from Jenn and Irina on successes and failures are really resonating with me! I'm still looking for the perfect pair -- and when I find it I will be sure to get multiples! -- but for the time being I seem to be able to get dressed and feel like I'm living in 2021 (for a few more days!) even if I haven't found my HEWI: a high-rise, wide-leg, dark wash jean with a finished hem and a touch of stretch that hits just at the ankle! In the meantime, I can report from the trenches:

1) Banana Republic High-Rise Wide-Leg Cropped Jean (28): These are a nice weight and a darker mid-tone, but are a bit boxy and gap at the waist. I may get them taken in. A good length that I can still wear with shorter ankle boots (and knee socks).
2) KUT High Waist Culotte Jeans (8): Similar the BR jeans above, but stretchier, more distressed, and shorter in the waist. I probably should have gone down a size. As it is, these read very casual. They may be better suited to warmer weather.
3) Oliver Logan Aberdeen Wide Leg Crop (28): These are a great dark wash and I can live with the unfinished hem, but I should have sized down: they sit too low on my waist and look much slouchier than on the model. I don't want to throw good money after bad, but I am thinking of trying these in the smaller size.
4) Levi's Ribcage High Waist Ankle Straight Jeans (29): I adore these jeans and love wearing them with button downs fully tucked in. Nice and high, heavy and tight in the right way, but sadly they are not blue and so not a versatile for me. Fingers crossed they pop up in a dark wash blue sometime in the new year!

As you can see, sizing is all over the map. I need to follow Irina's advice and be careful about sizing up in jeans: just because the legs are more voluminous than the old style does not mean the waist and hips shouldn't be snug too. Thanks for reading!
