Most of my tops measure 16-16.5 inches arm seam to arm seam across the shoulders. The L is 16.5 inches. The medium measured 15 inches and was tight across the chest - no contest - so I am no longer worried about the size I picked. I know how difficult it is for me to get outerwear fit right. Often the stock photos show a coat very trimly fitted as though the model must only be wearing a T or tank.
