Hi Dashielle --

Nothing much to add to all the above except, "ditto!"

Really like all the combinations you've put together, including the later add.

Agree with you that a peplum does we straighter-hipped types many a favor!

Another shout out for the creative (and amazing) combo of peplum and harem pants. I find that bit of structure makes such a difference -- particularly as I've moved into my 50s. I'm currently being driven insane by all of the dropped shoulder tops -- which seem to come more from laziness (easy to manufacture and fit) than real design choices. I much prefer drapey tops with a "real" shoulder line!

Does the vest come in another color? If so --- duplicate!

Fantastic item! You have found a workhorse and it does just what you see in it--adds a kind of slightly feminine polish that plays so well with the trouser. Looks marvelous on you.

I know just what you mean, not in terms of overheating, but some kind of top that stands alone, even though I usually am not wearing it "alone"--I wear a lab coat over, but sometimes want a change from a typical knit , and collared shirts just get smooshed, so an "almost jacket".

I've seen the blogs of oh, peplums are "out" but to me "peplum" is a broad category and includes items that are pieced or seamed to provide structure, slight fitting at bust, also achieved with darts, and at waist, without cinching.

See Find--I am trying this top from BR for that very reason--princess seaming creates fit + structure--I size up to keep a skimming fit that is not as snug as some would wear.

JamC and Sterling, I prefer to wear a stretchy body-con tee underlayer, so we'll see what happens when it warms up...maybe I'll go 3/4 sleeve *gasp*. I don't love my upper arms (said no woman in her 50's ever), so I'll have to get creative. That said, tees like this, found at H&M and Old Navy are a staple for my wardrobe. I'm just less confident about wearing them alone unless I am wearing high waisted jeans to avoid the muffin. I have also worn the vest/top thing in a high-contrast combo with different colors.

Gorgeous combo with the harem pants - that's my fave, although the daytime looks are great too. Those types of jackets/tops (fitted peplum) are SO hard to fit properly; I think you're lucky to get such a nice one that did! I also really love those low-heeled pointy toe boots

What a brilliant find! I love all these renditions. Fantastic. I have those harem pants and, as much as I love them, I rarely wear them as I can never figure out what to pair them with. They look perfect with the peplum.

Love the peplum top. I didn't realize it was sleeveless until I looked at the Finds, I thought it was a jacket. You're proving how versatile it is.

And I hear you about structure after a lot of oversizing. My tee drawer became one lighter after trying on a James Perse drop sleeve swing top this morning. I feel like being more selective about where things are oversized. Just because I can relax my midsection in a top, doesn't mean it will look good on me.

The last year or so has been all about oversized and fluid for me, likely due to a bit of overcompensation given the issues I had prior to YLF, and realized that body con was not my only option. Fast-forward to my last post...so very long ago, about trying to find ways to dress with a little more polish and structure without overheating, especially in stressful conditions such as a job interview. I found some lovely wool trousers that felt so masculine in every combo I tried, until I found this two layered, zip front, sleeveless peplum top at BCBG. It adds just the right amount of structure when worn over a form-fitting black long sleeve top, and it tones down some of the curves while adding others that, at least to my eye, make me look more proportionate. I've worn it with several different trousers and jeans, but I think this outfit with the graphic print pants and double monk strap oxfords that I wore today (dry, sunny and 60 degrees!) is my favorite. My one complaint is that the stretchy Sloan ankle trousers bag out so badly in the seat, hips and knees after a day of wear that the polish is lost. Luckily I did photos in the morning! Anyway, thought I'd share my small revelation regarding structure and how I managed to add some without needing to resort to my usual blazer or jacket which, let's face it, can be challenging when you run as warm as I do.
Pic #2 is bad hotel lighting, but shows how versatile the top is with wool trousers and pointy-toed booties.
Pic #3 pairs EF harems and heels with the same top, for an evening look that I have yet to wear (but Valentine's-day symphony date night might be the ticket!).
