What a great top, and it's very cute with the pants. I agree that the black jacket makes the outfit much more subdued and business-like. I might go with black flats with the jacket, just to anchor that serious look. Or leave off the jacket and wear the outfit as is, with the fun pink flats. Or, try black pants or a skirt, to go with the zipper in on the back of the top.

Thank you for all your helpful comments. I'm new to the forum and haven't tried to search for posts about accessories. I need work in that area, so I'll see what I can find.

The top is really great from the front, and with white pants it makes a nice easy outfit. But the contrasting zip is highlighting the fact that the zipper isn't evenly placed (or doesn't look like it in the photo ,anyways) between the windowpane plaid, which is kind of throwing my eye off. I'd love to see it with a lighter coloured jacket or sweater (as Rachy suggested) , and really like the idea of the pink flats.

I think a jacket in a much lighter tonal match to the top underneath would work a lot better. Or else no jacket. The basic outfit has a lot of potential. You look really nice already; it's just taking it up a few notches.

I like the top!! A lot. But without the jacket. Here's why: this top is very hip and chic -- especially the contrasting trim/zipper (?) on the back side. It really deserves to be seen (the back).

And I do think you could change up your accessories to match the hipness and cool factor of this top. Several other posters have mentioned ideas along this line so I will not elaborate. Experiment with all of them (jewelry, shoes, etc) and have fun! Maybe take the top to the mall in a bag, holding it out with some accessories, and see what looks good to your eye...If you're into metallics, silver shoes in a cool style might look well with the top.

I like the top! I prefer it without the jacket, because I like to see the pattern.

What I would recommend for more pizzazz is to roll the pants at the bottom a bit. I would also add a bracelet. If you really want to wear the jacket with the top, maybe adding a pin to the jacket would help also.

I think it looks great as it is, you look stylish and classic. i don't think there is a real need to change it.

For more pizazz or modernity here are some ideas:
- shorten the trousers to be crops
- bolder style of shoes
- moto jacket or denim jacket
- bracelets for wearing without the jacket.

That top is very cool and stylish. For me, the jacket moves it from Fab to fine. I like rachylou's idea for a different third layer. If I was staying with that jacket I'd add some bangles. I don't know if you wear them.

I love how you've styled it with the jacket and white slim pants! The bright pink flats are the perfect accent to avoid boring yet stay classic.

I'm not so crazy about it without a topper. The plaid in the centre panel looks off kilter to me -- not a true diagonal, unless it's twisted. That can work if you add a bit more rough edge to the look. For me, I'd try a wide-leg pant or a full skirt, and maybe a scarf rather than jewellery -- so the top is the most tailored item in the outfit, letting the funkiness of the print stand out as intentional.

You know, I LOVE the top and the pants without the dark jacket. I have this thing about bridging top and bottom. A longer jacket or one lighter in colour, I feel would make for a bridge. Or even a wide-ish belt. The pop of pink is fun too.

I am trying to put together an outfit with this top. I'm a classic and struggle not to be boring. Thoughts?
