I love your hair. My hair is mostly straight and I'm always a little envious of curls and waves on others. It must be that "grass is always greener" thing. I agree that your waves look edgy to me because they have that undone vibe - that sort of cool, unkept type of look.

I agree with what others have said. Your wavy hair is gorgeous and really suits your style, and sounds very low-maintenance. You could exaggerate the asymmetry even more if you want it to be really obvious (although it is quite obvious already), or maybe you could try some unexpected bits of colour if you're bored?

I don't know if you find this to be true for yourself, but I have noticed that for me, as I get older, letting my hair be wavy (or even almost curly, if the weather is humid) is far more flattering for my face. It seems like less intervention is generally better, although I'm not totally sure why.

I have gone through a similar change, about 2 years ago decided to stop straightening and let it curl naturally, some days are more successful than others. I think you look great. You get a pretty good curl without much product, my head would be a fall of frizz. And I love that building behind you, where the heck is that?!

You're hair is absolutely gorgeous! I understand your plight, though. I have waves like you and would die for straight, shiny hair but usually just let it air dry because it just can't stand up to heat every day. And I'm lazy about hair styling. I like the idea of adding product to define the waves. I think it might be fun to add color to the ends or on a few waves here and there. You could try some choppy or angled bangs but I would buy some clip in bangs and experiment first.

BrieN, I wouldn't let the wedding stop me from changing my hair. It wouldn't be anything so extreme that it wouldn't be appropriate. Besides, my stepson and his fiancé are artists too, so there will be lots of eclectic style at the wedding.

You have such a strong jawline - so beautiful, and you can carry so many cuts!
I have curly hair, and I have an asymmetric bob that's much shorter (chin length on one side.) I have grown to love it because it adds an edgy element to my otherwise modern classic style. Would you ever consider it? It would look stunning on you (though I like the waves now, too!)

It looks really good with this cut! As Angie said, you'd need to exaggerate the asymmetry with waves. I feel you on how it can be a bit difficult to get "edge" or toughness from waves (even harder with curls!) in the way we think of how that can be done with straight hair since it's inherently soft (unless you do something more extreme). Instead I try to think more in terms of how natural, undone, or chaotic a cut will appear, and how that will effect my look. This "artfully, naturally undone" vibe suits your style well.

I second Vix's idea of amping up the tousled aspect with more product. Try it, maybe just for fun. But I also endorse the blow-drying of your bangs, which is what I do...and let the rest air-dry. Then add product as needed for more excitement!

Hi Janet --

Granted edge is not my thing but I say it ain't broke, so don't fix it!

I know you're trying to offset years of heat damage and it looks like it's paying off -- your hair looks very shiny and healthy here.

Others have already mentioned the fact that rock star hair can mean a less controlled, more bedhead/undone, look.

If you want to push that more I'd be tempted to experiment with product that amp up the touseled vs the cut. Wavy hair takes well to looking more wild!

My hair is more coarse, wiry and full-on curl than wavy, but in the spirit of working with our hair's curl AND not letting the curl completely boss us around, I'll be avidly following this discussion. I really like your hair wavy. I adore Angie's hair with the current natural wave. And that first inspiration pic Una posted re the coloring--it made me pine for soft, voluminous, shiny hair with nice waves that could lap up color and actually let you SEE it : ) Mine gets lost in all the curliness going on.

Thank you, Momo! It's so hard to be objective with oneself, you know? Sometimes I think my hair looks good for my style, and other times I think that sleek, straight hair would look so much more "rock'n'roll." But maybe I already have a good thing going, as you indicate. Thanks for the perspective.

I am not full of ideas. Sorry !
But I really like you wavy hair. I have actually thought before that it has a nice sort of rock and roll look to it , artfully undone kind of thing.
And that scarf is so beautiful.
