Opaline, of the shoes 9 and 11 seem like potential duplicates to me, as well as 8 and 12 (I loooove those brogues in 12 by the way!!!)

The tops are harder! But maybe 19 and 22 are doing similar work with the stripes? Or maybe 19 and 21 fill a similar function as long sleeve pullover sweaters?

You can create custom finds from your phone (I did a bunch of mine today while sitting at the auto repair shop for several hours!) PM me if I can help! I love all the deep, rich greens - bottle, mallard, kelly, forest, olive! Lighter, softer greens are great, too but if they are too pastel I feel easter-egg-y ;)

Your mustard and yellow capsule makes me smile. Sooo much fun stuff :)

I think we intuitively collect and accumulate wardrobe items in our favourite colours. I definitely do!

Wow! Very impressive! I have a vintage mustard Coach bag that got me thinking about creating a very small mustard capsule. I have dressy-ish shoes (Fly London), sandals, a half dozen scarves, maybe, and a navy sweater with mustard edges. I wear my mustard with blue and grey. It looks great with light grey.

- nemosmom
Thanks!
I get heart eyes for green too, it’s my favorite color! I haven’t got anything in finds. Can it be done via cell phone?
It’s currently my online lifeline, my laptop croaked last year & has yet to be replaced.
Any particular green shade you like best?

-RobinF, thanks!! You are quite right, it makes it much easier.

-Lisa, thank you & ha, I thought you might relate! (~_*)
You have collected some great pieces. That yum pumpkin spice color. Delicious on you.

-Joy,
I have always wanted a color coded closet & never have done it. Maybe this is my first step?!
As you and nemosmom said, it really is harder with things scattered & not grouped. You’re also right about matching shades. It’s lucky for me I have a high tolerance for mixing different shades of a color but if I didn’t it’d drive me bonky. And thank you!

-suntiger
Thank you. I really have a thing for teal too. Not as much brown but I really do love brown with either red or teal.
You gotta stock up while the getting is good!

-smittie
Ok first off you made me blush & thank you, that’s sweet.
That was a pic from a few weeks ago celebrating my 46th bday.
Yay, so we could theoretically be pattern, bag & shoe twins!
None of my close friends/family are into fashion, so no twinning around here.

-Bijou
Thanks! You do an amazing job editing the one in and one out.
Your pieces are well curated.
Ah, I relate to the boots issue. Winter here is really mild so coats, boots, booties get collected but don’t wear out, and thus build up too.
It makes it harder when I really love them to choose what to go.

-Suz
Thank you! Keep adding purple! It was great.
I hear you. I catch myself in these color traps. I more consciously choose a lot of mints, deeper greens & aqua and constantly have to remind myself not to. It’s what draws me in first.

So for my neutrals ... beige looks hideous on me! It’s not one.

I mix this golden mustardy yellow range in with navy, light blue denim, burgundy, red & rust and treat all those like a neutral.

But occasionally I treat the mustard as the neutral and mix with hot pink, teal or plum. I have a high affinity for color though.

My main traditional neutrals are olive, navy & blush or pale apricot.

-bonnie
Thank you! I really need to get the finds thing done somehow. I do black but navy much more.
I think red is a beautiful color for you. I love those sneakers in red!

-FashIntern
Thank you & thank you.
I was just grousing because I love Autumn and it was still 101.
Ha. Ready for some €}•^~%~^#%*£*%!
sweaters (that will pill in a week of wear and make me grouse more, haha.)!

I’ve had chronic issues flared up but no current fever, I’ll keep chugging. :)

You’re right, praise be for AC. Can you believe I did three Summers without it at one point down here? O_o

Yes, that trap is familiar and don’t get me started on plaid. I love it!!!

I like that jumpsuit and striped dress.

-SarahD8
Thank you!
I am intently following your prompt challenge & loved your clogs/embroidered cardi.
I hope to join in.

I have the color answers above under my reply to Suz!

First off, I'm glad you're feeling well. I'm so far removed from those high temps that on my first pass, I thought that was your body temp. I reread and saw that it's the feels-like temp outside where you are. You've got my sympathy on the weather, but at least there's AC to deal with that!

On your question:

One of my early posts on YLF was when I discovered that I owned something like 15 blue dresses. I have since used that thought as a brake when I've felt myself turning towards yet another (though I did permit myself to get this one from Espirit a year ago; I ordered the striped one recently, but returned it).

Another thing I do repeatedly is get two-tone, generally black-and-white, patterns. I don't think of myself as someone who wears neutrals, because that calls up images of soft, harmonious, gentle tones. I might wear a white top that way and I bought black pants last fall, but for the most part, the neutrals I wear are patterns with stark contrast in ways that are intentionally jarring, sort of like loud colors without the bright.

Looking back over the past year, I realize that I nearly did with plaid what you did with mustard--except I haven't been buying much clothing at all. I did get a pair of watch plaid pants, but the fabric quality was poor, so I returned them. I just posted about this woulda/coulda capsule.

Love seeing all of your mustard items together. I have sorted many of my wardrobe items by color into my Finds. It was not a surprise that black and blue are the largest and don't need additions but maybe some updating. I'd like to add more red, maybe Angie's sneakers in burgundy.

What a gorgeous collection of warm yellow and mustard items! Beautiful and happy to see!

I note that many are accessories. What are your main neutrals and how do these work with those?

I accumulate blue without any conscious intention -- it's both my main neutral and my main colour. But sometimes it's a bit much of a muchness for me. I have to act consciously to add other colours (even when I love them!) and purchase with intention. That's a current project!

Opaline, what a great collection, pretty with a certain element of edge. I get surprised at how many boots I own - they never seem to wear out with my mild winters and so over time they can build up. I am now firmly on a one in / one out policy, otherwise I will be overwhelmed. This policy is very good, because it is forcing me to really consider new purchases and what I will edit out to make room for anything new.

Like you, I collect without realizing it until I categorize. It helps that I hang like colors together in the closet but footwear and accessories are scattered. Much to my annoyance I have a smattering of different shades of navy that I can’t get to work together. That can happen easily with browns and reds too. It is helpful to create color capsules in finds that incorporate those scattered accessories, as. nemosmom suggests.

Thanks, Cardiff girl! I’m glad it’s not just me! :)
You’re right. Angie’s right. Everyone else espousing capsules and wardrobe organization is right. It’s been a real eye opener.
Even if intuitively I buy things that complement, I’m ending up with more than I really need in some of these capsules. Keeping an actual concrete list is going to curb over-shopping, I think.

I was home today and it got to a real feel temp of 101 F ... rather than being outside at all, I decided to start grouping capsules within my clothing/shoes and accessories. Admittedly, I was also feeling a little miffed at the weather! (O_0)
I was super surprised to *really* see all the mustard I’ve accumulated since about 2012. It wasn’t even planned until this year. This year I got 7 mustard pieces & the rest are all up to 7 years old. Sorry for pic quality but rather than take pics, I searched online for exact items.
This is a reminder that I shop kind of making capsules subconsciously/intuitively & that I really need no more mustard!
Spicy Or yellow variety.

Having said that, I didn’t have things organized or chronicled concretely. It’s really helpful changing that.

I did the same capsule categorizing with mint/pale aqua, leopard, fuchsia and citron so far, but only posting the mustard for now.
Are you ever surprised to find you’ve accumulated a collection of things without trying?
