DH totaled my (old) car a while back (got distracted-totally his fault) and ended up needing hand surgery (TG no one else was injured!) that left him unable to work for 3 months. The small company he works for (35+ yrs) continued to send him a FULL paycheck for the entire time, saying "we know you still have bills to pay"!! And I ended up getting my dream car (Mini Cooper Sport model) cuz he felt guilty, lol

several years ago we helped build a wood fired oven at my parents place and my husband taught my dad to bake bread--it is possible to learn new skills post 70s!

My Dad has been baking weekly (6 loaves or so) and doing a drop off no contact delivery in their neighborhood--- a cancer patient family from their church, a recent widow, and other elderly friends!

We have also been sharing our extra garden produce and veggie starts with neighbors---we have a greenhouse and usually participate in a large neighborhood plant/garage sale (cancelled this year) so it has been great to share so the plants didn't go to waste!

Hanna, I love your post. Read on. I am a senior ( age mentioned in post above). I am an "on call" my words, volunteer. That is, I try to make myself readily available when the occasion arises that a volunteer spot needs to be filled last minute. And this can happen, maybe there were not enough people available, a volunteer becomes ill or has an emergency, etc. Anyway, Easter weekend , a church in my town made Easter Baskets for same reason you stated. I am not a member of the church and several others that I have volunteered, but I enjoy the fact that I can help different places. Others did all the prep work, shopping and assembling baskets and several helped deliver, and I was pleased to deliver some. We did not go to door, we left them where they would readily be seen..

Oddly enough, the only children I saw were three who spotted me from their window, same house. They were so excited, they saw the Easter Bunny! But I moved along, I had a few others to do.

I am pleased that your children were brought Easter Baskets!

I saw a police officer cutting the grass for an elderly man. Made me pause and thank the Lord for the officer’s kindness and pray for blessings and safety for him.

A friend went to check out at a store and realized her debit card was not working. The cashier said she would pay for the items for my friend!

We were unable to have our “normal” Easter egg hunt at church this year but friends from church made Easter baskets for our 3 kids and brought them to our house! The kids LOVED them!

Restaurants in my state are closed to all but takeout/drivethrough. Many local places are coming up with inventive ideas to keep going while they can. (One is doing a deal, $40 for a meal for 4. This is a *ritzy* place that I have never been to myself! Not their fanciest food, but it will be really good.) The police officers' association issued a press release that starting today and for the duration, they would be picking up several hundred meals from local restaurants to give to officers on duty during that day. That's a huge commitment and will really help these restaurants, especially those that are not geared for take out service.

I just went to pick up a few groceries (still no TP, btw). The older woman in front of me at checkout commented as she was leaving that she hoped she'd be able to manage her four big bags because she was taking the bus. I found her outside the store and offered her a ride home. No, our distance wasn't entirely as prescribed on the short drive home, but safer for her, I think, than taking the bus. She was very appreciative and I got to feel like a made a difference for somebody today. I call that a win.

My son is Mayor of a small town in another state. Has a great sense of humor, and we share a good laugh anytime we can. Yesterday evening we were texting and I asked him if everything was still open in his county. He replied " I closed City Hall Lobby, but we offer drive thru service". I replied "it would be nice if you gave each drive thruer (my spelling) a roll of toilet tissue.as a small token of appreciation for their business.( No pun intended but you can take it as one if you wish). His reply "LOL, Like everyone else, we have none. We give wonderful customer service".

Thanks for letting Mom share.

In Hong Kong, the younger community pulled together to do groceries and get supplies for the elderly.

My Dad's neighbour brought him a pot of fresh soup and a cappuccino on Sunday.

My sister created, and runs, a non-profit in Kentucky called Mentors & Meals. It's an after school program for middle school children, with programming, homework assistance, and a hot meal all delivered by adult and high school student volunteers. With the school closings, she has decided to continue the meals portion, and they will deliver - so, Mentors & Meals-on-Wheels! They're also going to offer Skype/FaceTime sessions with students to continue homework support as the schools deliver online learning.

With the schools closed down, some of the students have posted on Next-door offering to do shopping and errands for folks who can't get out. I went to the local grocery store this morning (crowded) and noticed some high school age kids videoing the nearly empty soup shelves and making a list of dry soups still available. It dawned on me later that they were probably high school kids shopping for those who couldn't get out.
