I am starting to really love an over sized top. But my SO prefers tight clothing on me. Of course I don't dress just to please him, but if we're expecting to look at each other for the foreseeable future it feels only fair that I make some concessions to what he likes. To that end, I keep my over sized tops drapey and figure skimming, rather than boxy. Or I make sure to pair them with a very fitted skirt or with super skinny jeans. That way we're both happy.

*When I say SO prefers tight clothing, I'm not kidding. I once tried on a pair of skinny jeans so tight that I couldn't bend my knees properly. I made my way out of the dressing room with a great deal of effort, thinking SO and I would have a good laugh together when he saw. His response? "Hmm, seems like they could be a little tighter on the bottoms." LOL

Like others I am looking for the middle ground between too fitted, which I don't usually go for, and too oversized, which I tend to gravitate towards. The perfect fluid fit that drapes in a bit without clinging too much is my goal.

Like MaryK, i think i went super fitted after losing weight... now all my tops seems both too tight and too short! (I am blaming my washing machine ....) But yes, all in all seeing more fluid tops makes me crave that style!

I'm with with Denise and Suz. I veered a bit more into oversize than I really love, so I'm enjoying the happy medium. In my mind, I've started to call it "shape with drape."

May I just say that having gained some weight over spring/summer does not help matters! Things that fit last winter are now a little body con. Since I'm hoping to lose the weight, I'm also not sure buying things "fluid" right now is the best call. But I'm doing it anyway.
I agree with Una about shoulder seams, also, scoop necks can be too low. I sized up on some t shirts for summer that weren't cut to be loose necessarily and it didn't work well.
I agree sizing is confusing right now, but also styles. Ie/ I need longer shirts to go with body con skinnies, but then I'm attracted to the new shorter shirts, which I guess are meant to to with higher-waisted, less body con pants. Right? I'm so confused! It's great to live in the era of so many retail options, but definitely confusing at times.

I have also been wearing oversized and drapey for some time. I'm not tired of it yet and find it sooo comfortable. I envisage continuing to wear oversized tops and perhaps adding some that are in between fitted and oversized. I have never like fitted tops on me!

I have been feeling my tops are too fitted, but for a slightly different reason -- after my recent surgery I had a couple of post-surgical drains implanted, and I needed long/oversized casual tops to hide them when I ventured out of the house for doctor's appointments and short errands. Turns out I had a grand total of TWO tops that fit the bill! LOL

I may have gone a little overboard with the fitted tops after losing a bunch of weight a few years ago...

I am heading for a middle ground. Fitted on the shoulder with some fluidity in the body. I often benefit from a banded bottom or a semi tuck.

I have a few tailored shirts that feel too snug now, even though they are not body con, just tailored. I also have my doubts about my new body con dresses for this reason, but intend to wear them with other more fluid items.

I am feeling that way too, but like CocoL, I am heading for more of a middle ground. I find sizing in general right now a bit confusing. I am also very uncertain about what to purge based on fit these days.

A few years ago I went to very oversized fits in tops. Just yesterday I was looking at a few tops that are so big I'm getting rid of them. What I'm going for now is sort of in between, the fluid fit as Angie says. Of course I will keep some of the intentionally oversized tops, but some will go. The in between fit feels fresh to me.

Oh yes. I'm having the same sensation. It's not about always wanting slouchy fits, although I like those items. I'm wanting even my more classic items to fit a little looser. Of course, pre-YLF I was always trying to wear the smallest size I could --- not trying to be sexy, just trying to not size up. My mindset has changed even in the past year, and, despite my weight being stable, I'm often wearing a size larger. Sometimes I cut the tags out. I'm not that evolved!

The last of my old, very fitted tees are on their last legs, and I have been replacing them as I go with looser versions. You can always see my style evolution by looking at my ample collection of black tees. The newer ones are definitely looser and drapier.

I have been wearing my tops oversized for so long now that I can't remember what a fitted top feels like, but I know it would bug me. At the same time, I do think sizing up on a top that is designed to be fitted doesn't always work out in terms of shoulder seams and whatnot. Interesting thread!

Still finding that the iodized/ oversized/ fluid fit trend is affecting my " eye" and that some items even from last year are not passing the test. I'm trying to not overreact and toss what may be classic fits, or go too deep into big sweaters & such, but just put some things in the holding zone and wear the tops that seem best now and see what shakes out over time. Even in " regular" fit I often hem and haw between 2 sizes-- drives me crazy.
