The bag and ivory loafers look really good together! Probably the only one I wouldn’t do is the white loafers, not without adding more optic white. They feel more casual to me than the other pieces. Sneakers of course are also casual, but the formal/casual contrast feels sharper and more deliberate to me.

All the combinations work - my favorites are 1, 3, 5, 6.
I'm not a personal fan of white shoes though (maybe also that you are wearing dark pants and I'm being hyper-aware of the shoes - so the white is really being WHITE to me).

I have to squint to see the strap in 5, but I get it that it matches the shoes. I think that’s a cool take on creating a complement, because it is repeating a color, but is not (quite) the expected thing.
I don’t think I’d wear the Adidas with the bag, but that might just be me being slow on the uptake on gym shoes paired with more formal items.

I love tonal dressing because shopping online is sooo hard to match colours exactly (and I can pretty much only shop online) but I think if I would also want an exact match with the accessories if I weren't wearing a full outfit of the same colour. So if I were wearing all ivory/white then I wouldn't worry about the bag and shoes matching. If I were wearing a black outfit with white shoes and bag, i'd want the colour to match. I also pay careful attention to trims. The colour not matching on trims upsets me. In fact the really nice skirt I bought recently came with a gold trim when I thought it was silver (i'm still keeping it but it bummed me out for a while).

I like the look of various whites and near-white colors mixed together. Don’t know any rules for it, but done right I think it looks chic. It’s hard to comment on the colors of these items together based on stock photos. Looking forward to your shots of them in the same lighting, maybe even in the same frame.

This is all helpful, thank you!

@Sloper - I hadn’t thought about being too matchy. That’s a good point about not matching whites exactly.

@Angie - you are the Team Captain, indeed. If you say I can mix them, I’ll mix them. Part of the issue I’m having is that I avoid ivory near my face and have always strongly preferred bright whites.

@Lisa, the loafers are ivory with gold and silver trim - they look white in the stock photo, I know! I’m not sure I mind mixing the metals, but maybe you’re right that the Frame boots would look better with another bag. I’ll play around and see.

@slimcat, I’ll try to get some photos posted soon!

@cat2, thank you!

These sorts of questions are highly personal, as the replies illustrate :). I am weird about some whites mixing, but loose about other colors, so I guess it's highly idiosyncratic and you should go with your gut. For example, I have some dark burgundy chelsea boots that I will happily pair with a dark red tote, but certain vividly bright whites I would not pair with certain "dingy" or more off whites. To my eye, similar-but-not-close shades can harmonize nicely, but when two colors or neutrals are slightly off and not quite matching, that bums me out.

Hmm, so unlike Lisa, I don’t mind mixed metal colors, I wear a lot of jewelry that mixes silver and gold (like Lagos), and so I think that bridges the metals together. I don’t tend to mix white and cream accessories unless I am wearing a print that bridges them together. I do think your bag will be great with cream and taupe.

That is a nice bag ! I don’t think I’d personally wear that bag with either of the two pairs of shoes/boots you’ve shown . To my eye , you’re ending up with two many different elements going on : boots are black and ivory , but the purse has gold and cognac trim ; loafers ( which are white , correct ?) have silver trim which isn’t repeated anywhere on the bag . It’s not so much an issue of mixing white and ivory here as it is other elements and trim that aren’t cohesive . Not everyone cares about nor notices things like that , but I do. I see the Frame boots working well with a plain black or plain ivory bag , or any other solid colour . I see the loafers working well with a silver or white or another solid colour bag with silver hardware .

That bag is very YOU, Preppy Pear. Yes, the bag strap is a great way to complement the other taupe items you wear. Make sure it's a pretty good match with at least some of the taupe items.

I mix ivory, cream and white clothes, footwear, and accessories! But I ALSO have white, ivory and cream complements that match perfectly. I like to have both because white items are my thing.

I mix ivory and white - but in my clothes, not accessories (I don't have light colored bags). So guess that isn't really answering your question. But I could definitely see mixing white and cream accessories (shoes, bags, scarves, belts). To me to have everything the exact same color would be too matchy.

The bag is really nice - the taupe strap would be a good complement to other taupe items. Subtle, which is my personal preference.

So, I recently posted a thread about handbags, and got lots of great input, including advice from Janet about thinking about complements that helped me choose a new bag (thank you!):
https://www.coach.com/products.....90%20B4S5K
When I got the bag home, I realized that it was ivory and not white, however. I have bright white loafers and white sneakers, and a white watch strap. I do have newly acquired ivory booties and loafers from NAS, though, so I think I did create a complement but not exactly what I intended.
Questions:
1) Do you mix ivory and white? Would you treat them as one complement or two?
2) Do you think the taupe strap on the bag is enough taupe to be a complement with other taupe or similar items?

Thanks for reading/indulging me - I am tragically color challenged!

Pic 1-2 with ivory loafers
Pic 3 w/gold trim white sneakers
Pic 4 w/ bright white loafers
Pic 5 w/taupe loafers (they look like a very close match with the strap, but maybe not so much in the pic)
Pic 6 w/white converse (excuse the dinge, they need a bath)
