Sveta, I don't even wear yellow, nor am I a major bag-lady, but somehow this bag has been singing to me.

Taylor, I think there is something wonderful about having a collection that you use, that brings you pleasure, and that lasts over time. That's a completely different thing from having a bunch of stuff you never use, have no room for (and probably couldn't afford in the first place!) but still want to hang onto.

Taylor, I am speechless on the number of bags. I have ...3 (all in shame here):-)
I think for me less is more but not because I do not like accessories. When I see a pretty piece I want to buy it...but usually do not. I have to fall in love with the thing to buy it, not just like it.
Jewelery has a special place in my heart. I think jewelery to me as bags are for Angie I LOVE each set of earrings, ring or necklace I own. Sometimes I go through the costume jewelery in the department store but do not buy anything: it just feels cheap and very mainstream . Yes, I think this is it: each piece I own should be unique and with character and reflect my personality. Then I never get tired of it. I do not buy an expensive stuf ( majority of what I have is below $30) but I usually go for silver and semi-precious stones or other natural materials like wood or artistic unique pieces.
I own some scarves and belts but not too many. The problem with my scarves is that I am buying ones I like but then have hard time to find what to wear them with and they just gather dust. I have to work on this more.
As for bags I have a very hard time finding ones I love. I am looking for the perfect yellow bag for 2 years now...but nothing sings to me so far

Ok April.....I am a bag girl too

34, that includes clutches and evening bags.

Before people scream...I have been collecting fine handbags since I was 20 yrs old so some are vintage-ish

My first expensive bag was in 1980, a Furla handbag from I Magnin it was 350 dollars. I still have it today and never travel without it:) It still looks great today.

hmmm - I wonder if counting accessories works like counting sheep and will get me back to sleep....

I think that I have a moderate amount of most things, except for belts of which I have 2 and heavier winter scarves of which I have 12.

About 80% of my jewellery has been given to me as a gift by my husband, parents and brother and sister. Another 10% I have bought to remind me of a particular occasion or place and the remainder as a frivolous purchase.

In light of Angie's blogpost today, I think I should also mention that I daily wear a noticeable watch and a ring. So that is two accessories right there. I feel like because I wear those two daily, I need less.

MORE all the way. As someone who has a bit of a sucky accessories collection, I can't tell you how frustrated I am in the morning lately. It's not that the accessories I have aren't fab, but I just don't have enough to work with. When I go to put the finishing touches on an outfit, I just can't seem to find anything. Or I feel like I keep wearing the same thing over and over again. I'm a costume jewelry gal all the way, but unfortunately I have very expensive taste regardless. I could watch an Alexis Bittar necklace catch the light all day long...

I'd love to go jewelry shopping at the MoMA store one of these days. It would be a blast.

The gal who did the Uniform Project will tell you: Accessories make all the difference in the world.

Fine jewelery lasts for Many years, costume is fun and lasts about a season...I am new to costume because of skin sensitivity to nickle, so NO costume in my ears,. I am however enjoying fun costume necklaces and bracelets currently.

I have plenty of real bold gold pieces and a small number of pearls that will be with me hopefully always:))

hm, I am becoming less is more. My primary accessories are jewelry and I really dislike inexpensive jewelry. And well, diamonds, gold, pearls, etc. are expensive. So I'd rather have a few wonderful pieces to mix and match.

the exception: winter scarves. i own more than i can possibly ever wear!!! at least a dozen.

Louise -- you are the Accessory Queen! Wow. Running down your list, I will estimate my numbers for the same items:

Probably a dozen necklaces
0 bracelets
1 watch
2 flower pins (gauzy flowers, no metal brooches)
Probably a dozen belts
Not sure how many scarves, maybe 10?
0 hats
5 handbags
0 rings
I usually have 2 pairs of earrings: pearl studs and silver hoops. I recently lost a hoop, so I'm down to just the studs.

My goodness -- could be time to go shopping!

Alright, I'm going to ask the question: specifically, how many accessories are we talking about here? I have maybe 10 necklaces (most of which are beads or are from nicer lines of costume jewelry like 1928 and don't tarnish), about 20 pairs of earrings, 5 bracelets, 5 belts (only recently started building this collection due to belt phobia), and maybe 20 scarves, 5 of which are warm, chunkier knits for winter and 15 of which are silk or lightweight cotton or linen scarves. Does it sound reasonable to build on numbers like these? Or do these numbers sound way overboard and out of the ballpark to you when we talk about adding "more?"

I fall in and out of love with accessories very easily. I will wear the same three necklaces or belts for a season before I tire of them and move on to the next thing. For this reason I show some restraint. My exception is pearls I never, ever tire of my pearls.

YES! I luv accessories but I've learned to buy less metal necklaces and more beads and such that will not tarnish easily. I seem to have a lot of necklaces, scarves and belts than any other accessory. I'll admit that many of them don't see the light of day much but I like having them "just in case." : )

I think it also depends on the person. I personally prefer to have fewer accessories Maybe that's because I can easily feel overwhelmed with trying to accessorize and I like to keep things simple. Having said that, I have slowly been accumulating some nice accessories by just buying a few things each season. I also have a hard time buying costume jewelry.

I've also been accumulating handbags, but it's interesting because I usually rotate through about three at a time and those three change with the season or my current mood.

If we are talking handbags, I have to modify my stance. I love handbags and joyfully spend money on bag-love when the real thing strikes.

I think the reason I don't like buying accessories is because I don't like buying things that don't last. I have, for example, a costume jewelry necklace that I really like, but now the cheap-o chain is tarnished and there is no way to clean it because it's made of painted plastic. The pendant is acrylic, and I am nevertheless contemplating if I need to buy a real chain to put it on.

Nice one, April. I love it when you are active on the forum.

First of all, we need to define "accessories". Handbags? Footwear? No footwear in my book. That's a separate category. But everthing else is an accessory if it's not clothing.

Accessories don't last that long - especially the cheap stuff. Don't think I'm turning my nose up at the cheap stuff becuase I'm not. I shop at H&M too you know :0). It's just a fact. Costume jewelry breaks or gets tarnished fast, so there is a limited life span.

I like a good assortment of accessories in a wardrobe. But you still have to pick them wisely. No overflows and things you don't wear. A good rule of thumb is that you have to be able to SEE all your acccessories. If you end up hiding them due to lack of space - you have too much.

I cannot be all that objective when it comes to handbags. They are my weakness and I have many, many beautiful handbags and will never stop buying them. But I do have space for them AND I pass on bags that have had their time with me.

As I said before - if you are not a bag lass like me, all you need are 3.

Lisa, interesting -- I would also vote "no" to having a large number of handbags. Actually, I wasn't even thinking of bags when I posed the question, though of course they are an accessory. I was more thinking of jewelry, belts, scarves, etc.

I guess I'll be the first no. I used to have a HUGE collection of handbags, and trying to use them all, all the time, was a mess. I'd be switching bags everyday and often running late in the mornings while doing so. Since I've cut it down by more than half, it is a lot easier for me to use what I have and rotate them. I currently have a lot of pendant necklaces and rarely wear most of them, I tend to grab the same few items over and over. When I have too many it appears I can't handle it and fall back on the same old faithfuls again and again.

I don't know why, but somehow I just hate spending money on accessories. The ones I do have I hang onto permanently.

I say yes, as well. I have accessories from way-way-way back and I still find myself reaching for them over time. I have a collection of belts that I pull from regularly and I am wearing scarves more often these days. Plus, I am a jewelry-maker and have TONS of necklaces that I wear everyday as part of marketing my business.

Plus, now that I am downsizing my wardrobe, having accessories to choose from is keeping getting dressed fun!

Oooo good question. I have a fair amount of accessories and often mix things up. Am curious to hear what Angie thinks!

While accessories are less expensive so it's fun to stock up, I honestly usually fall back on my same faithful standbys.. so I have to remember that when I'm tempted to buy another fun necklace or earrings.

So Tara's thread about her fabulous stash of costume jewelry got me wondering about the following...

We all know that when it comes to clothing, Angie is a big proponent of a modestly-sized wardrobe and frequent closet purges. But what does everyone think about accessories? Are they a case where having more is better than having less?

I'm tempted to say yes, because... well, just because accessories are fun. What do you think?
