Great tips from everyone - and yes, I love the necklace. I just got a relatively expensive (for me) necklace, but I plan on using it as my staple accessory this spring/summer. So if you plan on wearing it a lot, it may not be a bad price at all. But making it would be even better if you can pull it off!
And just a note on husbands.... At least mine. I can show him a single item and most of the time he really doesn't have an opinion on it (or it's negative). But if I show him the item in an outfit the way I plan on wearing it, he has something to actually critique. And most of the time he likes it when he sees the big picture.

It's beautiful. I agree, the neutral colors keep it sophisticated. The luster and contrast of chain and flowers is really pretty too.

Ooh, good idea on the size tapering. I'll have to do just two sizes, though, since there are only four flowers.

This will be such a fun DIY! I agree, stick to a good lightweight fabric and keep the colours neutral. I think this necklace is an excellent example of dress up/dress down. I can see it working with a LBD and heels, or with jeans, boots and layers.

I've got one more thought, but you might not agree with me- if it were me, I'd taper the sizes of the flowers ever so slightly, so that the middle one is largest and they get a teeny bit smaller toward the sides. Nothing exaggerated, but enough to give the piece a bit more balance.

Very cute necklace! I ended up following more links, out of fascination, and found this:

http://infarrantlycreative.blo.....klace.html

you may already have seen it, but she did organza flowers with pearls

Thanks girls! I toyed with the idea of bright colors, but I do think it would be too juvenile. I like that tutorial, (I hadn't even thought of looking for one, thanks for that!) but I think I have a different method of making the flowers that may turn out better, unless I decide to use some of the organza flowers I've been working on (a little bit of shimmer to them, a little lighter, though, plus, it'd be enough different that I wouldn't feel like I was completely copying, ya know?). Now I just need to find the chains and stuff.

I think the neutrals keep it looking grown-up and not like a kindergartener put it together out of gift wrap bows. I don't think it would work as well in a brighter color. I could see it in an ivory or another muted color (sea green?) but in like a cobalt or a fuchsia--I think it would be too much.

It's a beautiful necklace! I think it works because of the soft colors, light and airy appearance. If you want to give it a try, here is a tutorial:

http://mrspriss.com/2009/09/03.....klace-diy/

Comparing this version to the original, I would say the important thing is to use a relatively light material and place the flowers somewhat close to one another so that you get some movement. Other than that, I think her version is pretty awesome, too.

I really like that necklace. I've tried it on but for some reason the flowers didn't sit correctly on me. It's beautiful, though. I'm not sure why it works, but it does. Dress it up or down, really the possibilities are endless! It would even look cute with a simple casual MOTG outfit.

I ran across this Anthropologie necklace and I really like it.

http://www.anthropologie.com/a.....plateType=

I don't $42 like it, though, so I'm thinking about recreating it on my own.

So...before I dig in, I have some questions for you gals:

1. Is this actually cool/cute or is just really just weird? (I can't ask my hubby that question because I know he'll think it's weird, but then his taste is not exactly legendary - remember that green and tan striped sweater?)

2. If this "work," what exactly is it about it that works? Does it only work because it's neutrals and a bit rough around the edges? Would it work if the flowers were a little brighter color and/or a little sleeker?

3. How do you wear something like this? Is it casual or dressy? What kinds of tops/dresses go well with this type of statement piece?

Thanks guys!
