You are on the right track, Michelle. Actually Khris and my thinking about the vintage wrap is similar- just different colours.

Hmm.

This might be what Khris it seeing (4th style down):

http://images.google.com/imgre.....n%26sa%3DG

This is what I’m seeing (I have one of these too):

http://www.oldjewellery.me.uk/.....0SHAWL.JPG

I know you can’t see the pictures Michelle, but think of fine black Tortian lace that has a crocheted effect. It’s a black triangular shawl with delicate fringe. Very alluring and lightweight. Lots of texture. I think perfect with the hair clip.

I think the new chunky pearl strand that you have is fine alone.
I can't picture the shawl that Angie is talking about, either (and usually I can see what she describes). I was picturing an off white with fringe, and a vintage looking printed design of roses in red/pink where the sahdowing on the roses are done in the red of your dress.

Thanks, all, for feedback on the dress and accessory ideas. I've got more than a month to hunt down the right bag, shoes and wrap, so I should be able to find something. Glad the dress gets the seal of approval! I've stepped up my exercise of late to make the most of it by Aug. 29.

I'm trying to picture the vintage black silk crocheted shawl that Angie is suggesting, and for the life of me I can't imagine what it would look/feel like! If I went the floral shawl route as others have suggested, should I go cream background with part of the pattern picking up the same red as the dress? Am I better off with a solid wrap? I'm afraid I'm not into the idea of mixing red and pink. I know some people can pull it off, but I believe you need sight to know which shades can work, and I know I wouldn't wear it confidently.

As for the necklace... Should I get another strand of pearls in silver or something to layer with my existing set? Or get a multi-strand set that's maybe a bit longer?

I have a gorgeous black and silver hair clip (that the bride gave me, oddly enough), so I'll try to incorporate it as a nod to her. Not sure how to do that, though, with my hair being the length it is and the way I usually have it styled for formal occasions.

Chris: Good luck at your class reunion and with the ex! I definitely feel your love for shapewear and will almost certainly be wearing it at this wedding (assuming hose are still forbidden)?

Michelle, you look amazing in that dress! Red is so your colour. I remember you asked about a red coat in another thread? Fabulous idea. I'm loving the ideas to go with pearls, clutch, crocheted vintage black shawl, silver shoes and hair clip. I'm imagining it as I type and you look smashing!

Fab suggestions with the pearl necklace, silver shoes and clutch. A lot more updated.

Hmm.I’m thinking a vintage black silk crocheted shawl and a gorgeous hair clip in your hair.

I love the color of your dress. I agree that a floral shawl would make it more summer-y and I think the right pink would also look fabulous on you - I love pink and red together.
Would you go flower in the hair? That's also very summer-y and would draw attention to your pretty face and hair.

I think that the color is beautiful on you and agree about a statement necklace and silver accessories. I see nothing wrong with black in one accessory, all silver might be too matchy. You are beautiful and will look so no matter what!!

I would wear that new pearl necklace that you just got, and silver or pewter accessories. If you need a wrap, I would look for something white or cream with a floral design on it. Wedding are so much fun!

A little color and less black would be good. A slinky silver sandal and a bag in a color or multi-colored that picks up the silver/red theme would be fab.

Look for a statement necklace to draw attention to face (and balance large bust - Imogen had a great post on this today) in silver. That neckline is begging for a necklace!

The ex-boyfriend thing is something I can relate too (although mine was from 23 years ago lol) and this weekend at my class reunion events I will be embracing shapewear .

Michelle, the dress is a beautiful shade of red! I think you need a necklace that will make more of a statement. Chunky or multi-strand pearls some to mind. You could still layer pearls with your silver chain necklace...or maybe go with lots of chains.
Be sure that you wear your best uplifting bra.
As seen in the photo I'm not crazy about the black shawl, but consider that I'm not seeing the whole outfit. Your idea of silver with the dress sounds like a good one. I could also see using a multicolored shawl or beaded bag.

I'm hesitant to wear gold accessories because *all* my good jewelry is silver.

You can use gold or silver accessories instead of black, a much more modern combination!

You can use golden sandals of 4" heel and a golden clutch.

One of my oldest and dearest friends is getting married at the very end of August, and I'm already starting to give some thought to my outfit (the fact that an important ex-boyfriend will be in attendance may or may not have something to do with my super-advance planning). I think I've settled on the dress: a red one I bought last year for a late-september wedding. For that occasion I wore black accessories (BCBG peep-toe croco wedges, shawl and satin clutch). Because this wedding is still in the summer, I'm thinking I need to lighten it up a bit and would welcome your advice.

Below is a picture taken at the wedding where I wore the red dress. The bride and two of our other friends are in the shot too, but you can just admire how gorgeous they are! Don't know if you can see the rest of my accessories in this shot, but if so I welcome comments. I'm debating whether to stick with the same black shoes and get a silver clutch? Silver shoes with black shawll and black clutch? Find a shawl in the same red and go all silver for the rest? Something totally different? If you think the dress isn't flattering, for instance, do say so and I'll reassess. I've got to look good for this one!
Thanks, guys!
