Fortunately, I kept (more like stashed, on a very high shelf) the collection of wool felt berets I wore throughout grad school 35+ years ago. They compare very favorably to the Gucci one that is featured in the September issues of numerous fashion mags. I pulled the black one out for the first time in many, many years at the end of last winter and found that I was tentatively "feeling it" again. In a few months, it will be time to give the red, camel, brown and grey ones another spin, too. I bought a skinny black silk scarf that I think will be fun to wear. I remember wearing the smaller scarves tied around my neck years ago; I don't think it's a look that I want to revisit. </p> <p>I also like a variety of necklaces- simple pendants, layered looks and 'statement' necklaces. (What exactly makes a necklace a statement??) </p> <p>I would consider adding a fringed bag if I see a reasonably priced one that I like. They are in a cedar chest during warm weather, but I don't think I could get through winter without them. </p> <p>I'm also obsessed with the idea if a beret for winter/cold weather. Not many hats lend themselves to a stylish look with short hair, but the beret works for me.</p> <p>The small square phenomenon is interesting. Tied around the neck as an alternative to a turtleneck is a solution to the cold for a short haired person. One of my sartorial bucket list items is a Hermes scarf. Try places like Hobby Lobby that have inexpensive bandanas and look at soft cloth napkins. Not sure that is any trend, but for taller shaft boots with skirts or dresses, I sometimes find it easier to incorporate softer, natural colors in leather rather than moto-black. More English countryside than rocker chic.<br />I confess I have trouble with small scarves and tight-neck tying looks. Can give me the cowboy vibe or feel somewhat contrived.
