My grammar was atrocious in my last comment. Sorry :-(

Red is a basic colour. I think it goes with everything. Metals too. I’m so glad that you are open to the idea!

I hear you about the necklace. You want “the coverage” and I often have the same issue. The solution for that is a set of chunky beads that fit closely to your neck, on your skin but don’t fall onto the dress. Try it. This is why I have slews of chunky beaded necklaces in my wardrobe!

Thank you both for the suggestions! Angie, I may just tie the sash since I do like it that way also and it seems more likely to stay put.

I love the idea of red or silver. I'll hit a couple stores yet and see what turns up. I hadn't thought of red as being able to work with that color sash, but if you say so, I believe it!

I do wear earrings and I love elegant danglies...I just wasn't crazy about how my neck looks without a necklace in this particular dress. I'll try the earrings again and take a picture though, because I can never really tell from the mirror.

I really like the way the violet sash contrasts with the black and I actually prefer the sash tied as opposed to the bow! BUT, the bow is sweet if that’s your preference.

To Antje’s point, if you can get your hands on an alternative colour for shoes and clutch, that would be extra fab. I’m thinking red or silver. How does that suggestion grab you?

Also, do you wear earring? Your sah might make more of a statement if you wear earring instead of necklace. Just a thought. But you look elegant, polished and comfortable no matter what!

The sash is good. If you want to make the outfit pop even more: Do you have any accessory in a bright color that provides a nice contrast? Either shoes, bag, necklace or earings in red or green or yellow might be good (definitely a bright shade, since the sash is bright as well). I think that would be super, but don't worry, even without that you look very fresh and cute!

I'm attending an evening concert/live DVD taping in Chicago next week. There is no dress code - people attend this group's concerts in everything from very casual (jeans & tees) to occasionally semi-formal. Since it's Chicago I'm thinking there will be more semi-formal attire than usual though. I bought this basic black sheath because I wanted something versatile that I could dress up or down depending on the sash and accessories.

Here's the ensemble I am came up with:

http://www.jesusredeemed.us/h_.....dress1.jpg

I was originally going to tie the sash like this, but I think I prefer the bow:

http://www.jesusredeemed.us/h_.....dress2.jpg

My concern is if the sash is enough of a statement piece by itself? I don't want to ruin the "pop" effect of the sash, but since the rest of my accessories are rather plain I'm worried about it being a bit boring. I would prefer a glitzier clutch, but I went with this one (which has some pintuck detailing on the front that you can't see) because it fits the bill of being able to carry my camera safely. Also, are strappy sandals more formal with heel or ankle straps, or are slides equally okay?

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302258

I'm pretty much out of time to shop for anything else at this point, but I would appreciate some opinions on if this look works, or if I really need to change something! I want to get the details right because I rarely get to dress up like this and it's a special night.
