I've noticed the 70's feel returning in blogs and coverage of Fashion week also, Jean. I like boho on others, but fail miserably at wearing it well! Since I'm in a very conservative environment, I feel no pressure to follow this trend, but I am curious to see how it will effect my choices when I shop for spring/summer items.

You have such a glorious sense of personal style! I'm sure you'll navigate the sea changes beautifully. For you, I see color and texture being extremely important. I'm often frustrated when my best colors go "out of phase." Remember the decade of pistachio and warm yellow? It was a nightmare for me. I just hope I can keep finding my beloved jewel tones in the stacks of grey!

It is interesting to me as well. I had a pair of the 70s flares about 5 years ago but rarely wore them as they were too much of a Farrah F vibe. The shift that may impact even more followers of fashion is from the looser fit to a more tailored look. That one seems to have the potential to impact more items in more wardrobes.

I have noticed this, too. Trends seem to come and go much more quickly. I see it as a positive, though. Since no trend is definitive, except for the very fashion-forward, I see it as an opportunity to wear exactly what I want without feeling out of place. I make a nod to a trend if it suits my style, but otherwise I just go my own way.

Took a pass on skinnies, and rolled my straight legs to 'fake' the boyfriend style, so I haven't really been on trend for a while. I have tried on some flares, and will pounce when I find the right combination of fluidity and fit. DVF style wrap dresses and tops have always had a place in my closet, and more are welcome! Not feeling the love for boho, personally, though I do have a sugar eye for Ikat. I'm okay with a little 70's!

What I noticed in the shows, was an awful lot of camel coloured items. Could camel be the neutral for next F/W? Also, squared off low heeled footwear? (Not sure About this one.)

I read an article recently that the fashion shows showing looks for fall were all about the 70's. I don't plan to make major changes in my wardrobe or style, but I do feel a shift toward wearing more jewelry and ethnic fabrics, but not so far as fringe. I suspect that there will be room for lots of different looks and that excites me.

greenglove, I see the change in fashion mags and new collections, but I don't see it in the streets quite yet (maybe it's the season)? It seems to me that street wear will not change as abruptly as the catwalks, but then again I'm not trying to say that street wear should be the rule.

I never fully embraced the current silhouettes (skinnies, boyfriends, tunics, cocoons), so I'm quite happy to see the tides turn a little. Perhaps it's all a matter of perspective... as I've been waiting for the trends to change for a long time!...

I've been thinking about this because boho is one of the styles that I'm least drawn to on myself, though I appreciate it on others. With fast fashion picking up on trends so thoroughly, it already looks like the options for summer will all be unappealing to me (Zara is already showing lots of fringe and peasant blouse shapes). But... it just means I'll have to look a little further for things that speak to me. There are plenty of very stylish stores that probably won't pick up much of the boho look at all. And sure, maybe if I see something boho that fits my look, I'll add in a few pieces.

But I agree, anyway - it does feel like a rather abrupt change.

When I watch too many fashion shows I feel the same way I think the secret is to know what works for us as individuals (which you do so beautifully) then just play with whatever is best.

Sometimes though it's not the trends so much as me - if I feel a style shift coming then I do tend to feel as though I'll have to start from scratch.

Jean, good to see you post.

The trend forecast is not nearly this extreme. The point is more that 2015 (and the years to follow I'm sure) is a melting pot of trends. The fashion industry is celebrating variation and style diversity - which is brilliant. So the trends you have been wearing for the last couple of years are just as great as boho, Glam '70s looks and tailored clothing. Hope that makes sense.

I agree with Suz that often in spring/summer the boho trend starts showing up. Seems that this year there is more "glam" even for some of the boho - so maybe some embroidered silk item or other more glamorous aspects like rich intricate fabrics will appeal to those who don't like the traditional boho look?

greenglove, this is a fun but challenging dilemma to have, after participating in YLF for a few years.
When to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em. (Not referencing Marie Kondo!)

I have 2 goals, that hopefully can be aligned--want to have fun being reasonably "current" but don't want to churn through entire sections of wardrobe frequently. It's okay to turn over some items each season or year that I've had fun with and moved on, but a modest amount, or for me it becomes the opposite of having fun, since that's wardrobe maintenance, not wardrobe-wearing.

Have an unabashed skew toward flattering fits, with a toe in the water on JFE--usually for me there's a method combination, e.g., my experiment with culottes is because they are waist-defining/long-torso adjusting, but lengths are JFE (if that!).

So, maybe 70's flare-leg revival will increase the odds of finding more bootcut options that wearable, but I will not likely want the very dramatic versions.
I may end up with loafers and oxfords being my style+ comfort+ individual choice look, and I would hate for really good shoes to get only 1 year of wear, but at least I can look out for "trending" colors or details or spinoffs--I got some inexpensive monkstrap style shoes this year that have seen a lot of use.

Maybe more tailored fits will increase the odds that several types of fit look current, so items have a longer shelf life, or that it's hard to make a distinction, so you can go with your "best" fit.

Footwear is interesting to me to try to see it as all about how to package the basic "foot"--meaning, I need toe room with slimmer or adjustable fit through the rest of the foot, low heels or slightly higher blocky heels, and certain vamp or shaft styles to work with specific pants. Over that can be a variety of embellishments, color, materials, heel shapes, sometimes modest differences in toe shapes. "Think outside the toebox!"

I think some degree of boho is always evident during summer collections. It's a matter of degree and emphasis, with this year having more than some years.

Also, this year the emphasis includes a sort of 70s glam (not boho).

I'm not worried about it and don't think I have to completely rejig my wardrobe to incorporate the aspects that work for me. I don't have a boho bone in my body but I can get on board with a bit of 70s glam.

I bought a couple of boho style blouses this year because I haven't worn them in ages and because I'd like to incorporate them into my wardrobe. Call it a nod to the trend, if you will.

I love much of what the '70s had to offer, though, so it's not like I'm embracing something that doesn't speak to me. You won't see me wearing wide-legged pants, though I do like the ones that are cut slim and just flare at the bottom.

That said, I don't wear something just because it's what everybody else wears. I wear what I think best suits me and my personal style. This year, for some reason, I'm finding a lot of things I happen to love. That's not usually the case.

I've been taking trends with a large pinch of salt for a while now. Pretty much all of them seem to address a subculture rather than fashion as a whole. If a trend speaks to me directly, I try to incorporate it into my look. If not, I ignore it and look at the designers and sources I trust instead.

As for boho, I like traditional textiles, ethnic jewellery, wax prints and quality vintage. I'm going to wear them whether they're fashionable of not, in a way that makes sense to me. This year I'll definitely be wearing my wide legged jeans (because I was wearing them anyway) but you won't see me dead in a peasant blouse.

Maybe because the most well funded clothes buying group is at the age where they might enjoy a last hurrah of the looks that were popular when they were young?
Or because the seventies look was glamorous but not uncomfortable?
It's mysterious, the reappearance of trends from previous eras always seems so random.

I have been feeling it too.Thankfully I kept my boho things because I also tend a little bit that way.
However i don't think that other things will look dated. As Angie puts it there is a great assortment of fashion to choose from. Maybe too baggy boyfriend jeans won't make the cut anymore or cocoon coats but most of the other things can be adapted to look current, imo.

I must admit I have been feeling similarly. I only just got my BF jeans last year and I made a cocoon coat last year too and I need to get more wear from them! I'm not particularly into boho either and I am really liking all my very slim leg jeans. Plus I find flares impractical for my mostly at home lifestyle.

Hello all,
I am noticing in all the fashion news that trends are shifting. Is it my imagination or ar we having a repeat of only about 5 years ago when 70's were very in.
Also, it seems as if most everyone will have to buy a whole new wardrobe to stay on trend. I have held onto boho items because they are often part of my look , however even I had moved on to more minimal pieces. I am wondering how everyone feels with all the fringe and boho pieces that are the focus this season and in the fall. Is it as abrubt as it seems? Will everything else seem hopelessly dated? Such as boyfriend jeans, oxfords, oversize cocoon coats and items that were in only last season. I am confused as to why 70's is back so soon? Does ayone else feel this way or notice how abrubt it seems?
