I thought I'd really love this style but I don't. Agree with more fitted tops being a style solution but ... I hardly have any and that look seems dated after the flowing top styles of recent years. Honestly they make me feel frumpy not chic. I definitely prefer a cropped flare or even cropped straight with a little width. I have both the gap wide leg (in a green, I think Joy might have in white?) and the loft denim-like very thick fabrication that Angie and so many fabbers have. Neither do me any favors and I rarely reach for them. Good to have given them a try, I tend to try most trends but wouldn't add any more. They are comfy, I'll give them that. They give off a casual vibe that just isn't me right now. And agree that when I was thinner I rocked previous iterations of this style - which is probably why I thought I'd love them!

I have yet to wear my wide leg crops this year or my culottes. There's still the hot weather to come, which doesn't arrive until late September, early August... but this is my main problem: weather. And activity. I'm always roughing it in the cold...

I'm with you. My weight is up, so I'm even more reluctant to wear anything that adds additional volume to my silhouette. Seems that many of us short-waisted women are not wild about this trend.

If I wear my cropped pants (the ones with slight flares, I don't have any truly wide ones), I feel the need to wear a substantial heel with them to help counteract the shortening (and hence widening) effect. I also tend to wear those pants in a column of color or at least a low-contrast look. Or wear a long jacket over them to trick the proportions a bit and create a leaner look.

I won't be buying any more pants in this style. I have enough to see myself through the trend. Its just not the easiest look for me.

Thank you, kkards! I think trim fit in the upper hip and waist is key to the success of these pants. The leg is cut with a lot of flair beginning at the hip.

I've embraced the leg shortening thing....but as others have mentioned, I'm pairing them with shorter tops.....and almost always a half or even , wait for it, a full tuck! But I'm not sure if it's because the Patna are wide, cropped or if it's because mine have a higher rise

I think ALL of my pants, right now, are crops. I have two pair that are wider leg. I wore one of them in the 30X30 challenge, so I have plenty of pics of that pair. I'll try to round up pics of the other...In photos, I found the first outfit--volume on volume--to be unflattering, but I thought it looked better IRL because the shirt is lightweight silk and moved around to show the fitted hip and waist area of the pants.

I bought the pleated trousers more recently and they've become a favorite. Fully tucking or half-tucking seems to work well with these pants. As the weather cools, I'm going to experiment with slim sweaters (tucked if they are really thin or left untucked if they are thicker but still trim in shape).

Something I am discovering as I am trying to style these things,,on me anyhow-tops do not have to be cropped, but they do have to be more fitted, do not have to be tight fitted, but definately not loose and flowly. Like the t's in the post above this one-something like the white one could work if it was no longer then that. also maybe a more fitted jacket, like a jacket that had a bit of curve to it. Another thing that may work is a shirt tied at the waist-

Anyhow I am playing around with this..One look I am liking a bit more is a small tuck on a shorter t that i have.

Like a lot of pieces of clothing it probably depends on your body type. I tend to wear a simple T shirt (which is what I usually wear) and sometimes a topper. I haven't added anything new. I would like to find a cropped top but the one I ordered didn't work out.

That might be part of my problem. I have not spent any time searching for tops. I am wearing exactly what I already owned.

I'll post some terrible pictures later this week.

Also short waisted here, and on me, they are definitely not going to be much more than JFE... but I'm having fun with the silhouette. It definitely is a big shift for me to hunt for tops that work with wide leg crops so the few pairs I got aren't getting much mileage.

I cosign this. I'm short waisted too, which adds to the problem because tucking can look weird on me. I keep trying, as I like anything that shows my ankles.

I have white denim-like ones from Gap and a black Tencel version from EF. I like short boxy tops best ( or boxy jacket over tucked in slim tank), but have not experimented much yet.

IMO, the reason we are not seeing wide leg crops much is that they are hard to style. I have recently lost a bit of weight, and if I hadn't I think I would be returning the two pair I bought. Both were later season sale purchases-one from Loft at the mall, and the other Nordies on line summer sale. Both fit very well, but no matter what I try to pair them with they add pounds to my look. I did manage to find a couple of tops in my wardrobe to wear them with for our hot fall weather. But also I have fund some ways to style the olive ones for perhaps all year round wear. Since they were sale items they were not a big investment. Later I will post some photos of them. For now I would like to see yours, and your thoughts on them. have to add though, mine have a very soft comfy feel.
