The first dress is a great casual hot weather dress. You have great legs and it doesn't look too short on you at all. Thumbs up for the second dress, too. Gosh, you look beautiful!

Hi Carole!
The polka dot frock is very snazzy- especially with its swing skirt. It will totally sing with some colour contrast, but I think your first instinct to avoid a coloured belt is spot-on, because that would visually shorten your waist more. Where you can put the colour is on your wrist!- 2 big plain coloured plastic bangles (one white maybe) would look fab and draw attention down to the jaunty flare of the skirt. Another way to add colour would be with a sleeveless tailored waistcoat- say in that trendy peach/apricot colour- to be worn open, and purely as decoration!(This add-on would also tend to "lower" your waist visually, as long as the hemline sits a bit lower than your natural waist.) A coloured bag (Angie-style!) would be a buzz too. BTW, your white watch is a natural with this frock - but if you have another watch with darker band, or a metal band, I think that would tone in more naturally with the overall darker colours of the TF frock.

Steph-you make a good point. I really should be a better model, I was so anxious to get feedback on the dresses I didn't take the time to look my best! I had just barely walked in the door from a 3 day road trip, and I look like it. I appreciate your honesty and I will try a "do over" . Glad you approve of the dresses.

Lynn- thanks

i like 'em both! i think trying colorful accessories with the polka dots can be a lot of fun (periwinkle, cobalt, citron, tomato) - you can even try zebra print if you're feeling wild! at the same time, with 'traditional' accessories (pearls, heels, etc.) you could dress it up for professional or more formal occasions. nice!

i like the first one a lot! those colors are gorgeous with your hair and complexion...and the loose shape makes a lot of sense in the heat while showing off your shoulders and legs at the same time (avoiding any frumpifying). with hair and makeup, gold accessories, and a nice heel it would be perfect for a nice dinner out, as well - i don't see it as a 'strictly casual' look at all. so pretty!

i do wonder a little if you were smiling and standing more confidently or even wearing a nice heel if you/we might see the first dress more favorably....it reminds me of Angie's recent post on putting on makeup and doing your hair before trying new outfits. with 'old standby' types of clothing it's easier to visualize how it may look in a 'finished' outfit. but when we're trying new silhouettes, colors, patterns, etc. i believe that proper foundation garments, shoes, makeup, and so on can help us to see the piece's true potential.

i am in no way saying you should 'be a better model'! shooting myself for my blog, i know exactly how difficult it can be to pose for the camera - especially facial expressions. (blurgh!) but i have found that making that extra effort can help me to see the potential when i'm outside of my comfort zone or trying to push my style boundaries.

Hooray! two great dresses! and how much fun to be planning a cruise....yum!! have a great day, steph

Kyle-I'm glad you can relate and give me hope! It does get exhausting.

AJ-thank you. Your the first to suggest without the belt, but I know you have a short waist too and that makes sense to me. I might try a few different ways and repost for more opinions.

Angie- so happy you approve, I thought you might give the green light on the colorful dress, surrendering the waistline and all! And the dots seems like I'm fitting right in with everyone else around here. Yeah!

Kim- good idea about the maxis. And happy you have come around on the TH dress, i much prefer sundresses over shorts and a top in the summer or on tropical or warm weather vacations, and currently I don't have any .

Also, start looking at maxi's.. if you like the shape and fit, you can always hem it to the length you like.

Kim-Seems like the kind of dress you would wear, but see how the large dots could be a little too much. I realize the TH dress isn't totally falttering, but I was thinking of it for a trip next year and would wear it like a T and shorts, only without the shorts, if that makes sense. Just thought it could be cool in a hot climate (we are going on a Mediterranian cruise and it will be hot)

Suz and yellowgirl-thanks for the great suggestions.

I definitely like the dots better - I agree with Mo; a contrast colour would look wonderful! What about red? Or citron?

I really like the polka dots but I feel the belt needs to be cinched a bit more.

ETA: or how about a contrasting color belt instead?!

Everything I find that I like is always too short....

1 & 2 This Tommy Hilf. dress is very casual and on the short side, but I love the colors and think it might work.....

3 & 4 This polka dot dress fits perfectly, just the right length (at least I think so) but not sure if it looks too old fashioned. I can't do heels, so I would either wear it with these wedges or a flat ballerina type shoe. ....

Brutal honest feedback most appreciated. Thanks ladies!
