I am thinking of investing in a new wool pea coat that is hip length for exactly the type of events you describe. I have been known to layer tights under jeans (vs. wearing a full on long underwear) for that situation. I've been looking for something warmer that my lined London Fog and less dorky looking than my ski jacket. I live in the Bay Area so it doesn't get very cold but I am looking for something to wear for sporting events. Is this kind of jacket overkill? The temperature rating is WARMEST -30° to -5° Fahrenheit.
