These are Wedgie straight legs. The wash looks similar to yours but they have a raw edge at the bottom so I can easily hack them shorter. I find high rises extra comfy because they tend to stay up without a belt.

Colette, glad to hear it. Keep me posted.

Cindy, you crack me up.

Ooooh, Sharan. Fun new jeans. Want to see them on!

Marianna, good to see you! It IS a luxe cashmere hoodie that I wear with a real pair of chunky pearls - not so out of charater :)

Gryffin, YES. Know thy rise. And it sounds like we have a similar sweet spot.

I think Laura makes a really good point, we all have our sweet spot for rise. If you have a short rise, a midrise jean is your high rise. If you have a long rise then you are going to be able to wear the super higher rise jeans. That rise # should be the best help in getting any look we want but to achieve it best for our anatomy! The madewell skinny 9" comes to my umbilicus but lower than my natural waist. Any higher would make me look short waisted. But I have midrise jeans that also have a 9" rise but they sit lower due to the construction and material. And I have 9" rise more contoured that are my version of lowish midrise. That number is a key to less returns and more success for me. Know thy numbers!

Oh goodness, I’ve been away from YLF for too long... “wedgie” jeans and Angie in a hoodie! Oh my!

I’m more surprised at the hoodie actually! Somehow the jeans just work on you beautifully - as does everything! Fun look.

Angie, these are so adorable on you! Your experience with them is exactly what my experience is like with the off-white ones I got in spring/summer of 2017. I love them. I've considered getting a blue pair. They would have to be the same button fly and fit, or I'd be disappointed. I got these OSKA jeans instead, and they do have a bit of a similar feel, but they don't go with the same things; they are a little harder to style.

Thanks for the kind words and giggles, ladies.

Laura, LOVE those on you. (How quickly the eye can adjust!). Good job getting the slightly shorter rise, and maybe give the hems a slight hack. See how it goes. Flattering on your petite curvy figure. Thanks for sharing. WOOHOOO. Waving at my jeans twin and ‘80s style sister.

Kkards, maybe it was too soon? Try them again in a dark wash.

Kate, you were wedged into a wedgie. HAHAHAHAH :)

Colette, I see a LOT of gorgeous potential there. You need a slightly different fit and a shorter or longer hem length. Add footwear and you’ll be rocking it.

Lisa p, agreed. It’s going to boil down to personal figure flattering priorities. How much conventional figure flattering are you willing to forgo to have fun with trends, or change things up from skinnies? Of course, there are many options. This look is just one of them, and probably not a popular one - for now :)

Jaime, there is cross-over between the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Think of Elaine from Seinfeld as the example.

Truthfully I am not sure what I think of these jeans. They look really nice on all you who have posted pics of them but my eye has not adjusted to the shape or the light color at all. Maybe it will just take me a little more time - I am not generally an early adopter of fashion :)

These look perfect on you! I am feel a little slow this morning in terms of parsing the difference between 80s, 90s and current jeans styles. I am pretty sure this style never worked on me even when I was at my thinnest. I will stick to bootlegs as my next shape I think. Those are all I remember wearing!

Angie - I really like them on women like you , and actually enjoy this new fit and silhouette for jeans . I feel decidedly out of it in my skinny mid rises , and one of these days I’ll find the time to shop around and try some new jeans on. I find this Wedgie/mom Fit flattering on so few people though , making the trend a tricky one for the a average woman to adopt . The back pockets can be deadly .

Angie, I did try a size up and they were big on me.

And, I quickly got the hint the SA was giving me when she said that the pockets on this jean are sized and placed to purposely emphasis the butt...as she was handing me a different style of jeans to try.

ETA: The pair I'm wearing in the picture are size 28 which seems to be my usual size lately.

I love that shade of blue in the wedgie jean. It looks adorable on you, Angie.

Me, I’m staying FAR away from the wedgie. My figure is pretty much rctangular with broad shoulders, and I love a high waist, so I thought they might work.

Boy was I wrong. Can you say crotch point strangulation? Couldn’t get out of those suckers fast enough—and then found I really couldn’t

Well, that was fast! ShopBop delivered in a day. Wow. First, I laughed! Then I stared at them for a while. Verdict: I love them! I say, try them if you are curious. Why not! Now to find some shorter tops. For reference, I am 5’3” and these are 28. I cuffed them in the first photo to get the cropped length. In the second photo I left them full length, which is to the ankle on me. Sized up so they are wedgie in name only.

I ordered mine from ShopBop, as I noticed that most of the Wedgie jeans Nordstrom offers are "high rise," with a rise over 11" ... that's really, really high on me, so I went with this version that has a 10.25" rise.

I'm shocked at how quickly my eye is adjusting to high rise denim. Everything else is starting to look somewhat off. Still, it's been a loooooooong time since I had a pair of jeans this shape and fabrication. For sure, the try-on is going to be entertaining!

Cardiff girl, isn't that the truth. Wise lady, you are.

Greyscale, the high rise look is made for you.

cjh, "Mom Jeans" - (dreadful name) - are baggier up top and more tapered in the lower leg. But a close cousin.

Eliza, you crack me up. I think the silhouette used to give women who wore thong undies with them a wedgie - so it stuck.

Janet, if the rise isn't too high, I think you'd probably look great in them.

Scarlet and Merwoman, good for you. Keep us posted,

Rebekahphoto, YAY. That's so fun :)

FashIntern and La Ped, YES. This style of jean is actually made for curvy figures because it follows the silhouette of the conventional female form. Yet many curvier women prefer skinnies. It's fascinating. No right or wrong here - simply preferences that vary from person to person.

FI, I think that's about right. Vintage fits like the wedgie jeans cater to the hourglassy, I presume because that shape was the standard of beauty for so long. I'm pretty small but have a defined waist and pronounced waist/hip ratio. Plus really muscular legs. Skinnies and leggings are the hardest look for me to pull off, at any weight or size, because the proprtions are wrong. They actually looked better when I was pregnant, when I had no waist to accentuate anyway! In any case, hooray for retail diversity and options for everyone.

Angie, you are too funny with your wedgie selfies! But I do know exactly what you mean about pants & shorts that do that.

Janet, funny, but a friend of mine who is stick straight was just complaining recently that she thinks these styles are for women with curves (by that she means boobs, butt & hips, not simply extra weight the way some people seem to want to use that word). She says they all just hang on her and look sad.

after a while of searching a month or so ago, I found a pair of the Wedgie style in a plus size (amazon) in a medium wash--love the button fly & higher rise! They stretch out a bit, but not overly so.

I really wanted a lighter wash (non-distressed) and have a pair in a smaller size on the way...Im kind of in between sizes, so will see if the largest "straight" size will work. it is a bit annoying how they all fit a bit inconsistent across the washes---but its so great to see higher rises on the move. No fun having to yank up jeans all day!!

These are on their way to me, and I am curious to see how they fit. Nordstrom makes it pretty painless to try something, so I figured they are worth a shot. I sized up. My husband wears only 501s, and I would say the fit on those varies by the wash as well. But they all stretch out with a few wears. That’s my memory of Levi’s, back in the day when wearing men’s Levi’s was the thing. First they were too tight, then just right, then too baggy, and you had to wash them and start over.
