Like those shoes. I tend to do both. Buy for now and later. If it's cashmere it never goes out of style.

Thanks all, I do love my new shoes. I think I will try like Colette said, looking forward, not back.
It was also interesting to read today's post.
I was thinking it may depend on one's main season, I mean where I live summer is very long and winter very short so it may be wise to chop more summer sales for next season but not winter.

Great shoes.

I do a little of both, since cool springs mean I want to wear 'winter' material clothes (in lighter or bright colors) until early summer. So basically I shop end of season sales for cool spring/winter remainder clothes and also shop new season spring clothes at the same time.

I usually don't buy dark colored or super heavy winter wear in the spring though, because if I'm really not going to wear it for another year trends and my preferences might have changed.

Cute shoes.
This year our end of season weather has been more mild, so I am ready to move on to spring fashion. Why not buy things you look forward to wearing in spring/summer and ditch any guilt regarding missing end of winter season sales.

Hmmm, cashmere on sale or new shoes? Well, I like the shoes, but we had snow flakes mixed in with the rain yesterday. So I'm still wanting to dress warmly.

cute shoes! I think if you find something winter that is a great deal, something in classic non trend, or something that may need replaced next winter you should definately not pass it up. On the other hand buy spring. But I am finding some of the spring items I want are not available yet in stores here. Also some on line are out of my size, etc. already. at this point I am not being very successful at spring shopping.

Great shoes and I think you made the right choice. I've changed my shopping habits to look forward and not backwards and I'm so much happier. Thank you YLF. But that doesn't mean I'm still not tempted by an end of season bargain, but it has to be over the top amazing for me to buy it.

I agree with the general principle of shopping seasonally. However I think something like classic cashmere is safer to buy at end of season, and have tried to do so myself. But I've noticed you rarely find the really good basics hanging around on sale anyway. Last year Hudson's Bay (iconic Canadian department store) had a great sale price on Lord & Taylor sweaters so I ordered a turtleneck in navy. Well, I guess they were counting on stock that was already in stores, not at the warehouse and they ended up cancelling my order.

Those shoes are beautiful -- great purchase! My shopping pattern -- With certain items (especially footwear as I am a larger size) I find it better to make purchases at the beginning of a retail season when the selection is optimal. But I do keep my eyes open for end-of-season clearance items to fill specific wardrobe holes.

I like to shop the winter sales, but then we usually still have some weeks to wear winter items by the time the sales are going on! It would be May by the time I would want to wear shoes like yours. That said, I have started to look for things for my summer wardrobe right now because that needs a lot of work and I don't want the flimsy stuff that will be available when it's truly spring or summer (sadly I haven't been successful so far).

Oh wow. I adore those shoes! I wouldn't be able to pass them up either.

I know Angie advocates this method. I've seen her respond to posts on the forum advising to do just what you did. I think it is wise. You don't know if your style will change or if you'll need a different size by the time next winter rolls around.

i was wondering lately how its better to shop - for instance now, to buy smth new for spring to start wearing immediately or to make use of some sale prices and to buy good winter items. i had my eye on some cashmere sweaters over at shopbop and thought to buy them now with the sale they had; on the other hand for happiness factor, better new item for spring, especially that its already full spring weather where i live.
so eventually i did not buy any sweaters and got a pair of shoes i loved in a local shop (see picture). at the end i wore the shoes twice already and i am thinking better to leave winter shopping for beginning of next winter, may be i will have other style choices then. what do you think?
