These are all really fun outfits! Looking at them, I'd say you tend to wear statement shoes with your essential clothing pieces. And I agree with shevia, you have combined your essentials in interesting ways so they make statements.

First off, these are great outfits. I especially like #1 and #3. But I would say the shoes in #1 are statements rather than essentials, and although all the pieces in #3 might be essentials, you put them together in a statement way!

I love basics too. I get wooed in by statement pieces but I love my basics. #3 is super cool on you!

Interesting observation. I think I've tended to stick to "basics" for a long time, but I am working to update what I have and then see where that takes me.

There were ongoing discussions around here recently about wardrobe 'basics' vs 'statements' and I realized I am a very entrenched buyer & wearer of basics. It's not a judgement, just an observation. It's part of the reason I hold onto things so long too I'm sure.

Anyway, here is my work week in basics:

Monday --
Gray pin cord Gap 1969 jean jacket. So very, very basic amirite? With black Pickwick & Weller dolman tee, bird print infinity scarf bought on vacation in Ashland OR, thrifted gray bias cut knit skirt by Garnet Hill & Gentle Souls ghillie style ballet booties.

Tuesday--
Same gray pin cord jean jacket, white linen Madewell swing tee layered over a gray uniqlo linen tank, Paige boyfriend jeans, & Gentle Souls pewter fisherman sandals. (Headed out of rotation because my feet get so cold in the mornings!) All very tonal & very basic, even the pewter shoes.

Wednesday--
Black Uniqlo slouchy tee layered with black Fabletics twist shrug, white Banana Republic cropped jeans & black Nine West chelsea booties. Again, basics!

Thursday--
Red & navy plaid flannel Madewell shirt open over navy cotton swing tee with red plaid viscose scarf, Paige jeans, leopard print Dolce Vita oxfords. This should look crazy, but it's all calm... I think because they are all basics on their own.

See? Even in metallic shoes, even using Angie's black over white formula, even in the ALGOest mix of two plaids + leopard print, the basics oriented nature of the things I tend to pick is quite obvious.

What's funny is I went through my Pinterest board of favorite outfits and basics dominate there too. I'm going to pay attention to this when I shop.
