I know one fitted dress I got when I was 17 ripped up the back seam the next year, at a party!!! I have quite a strong shoulder line and even in the 80's and 90's did not put shoulder pads in my sewing ( in fact Al the women in our family used to take them out of everything we purchased, except perhaps jackets.
