white soft erase--click up kind like sarah.

use a light hand especially on non-pebbled/textured leather.

works especially well with textile bags, especially light colored ones

I've used Magic Eraser (Mr. Clean, I think) also and like Zap says, damp and with a very light touch!

Seconding the protective spray... after having to do a big cleaning wearing my white bag with new jeans just once this has seem to really help keep the maintenance cleaning frequency needed down.

ETA: Cadallic is the brand of spray sold at the nice shoe store here.

I second purchasing a proper leather cleaner from somewhere that sells it. I buy leather cleaner from Danier Leather and it works beautifully. Once clean, you may want to find a leather protector spray and spray it - it keeps it from getting dirty as easily.

Joy- My white clutch from Nordstrom is one Angie highlighted awhile ago. It is made of resin by Sondra Roberts. It wipes off very easily when needed and is fun for a change, feeling both retro and current. Not a roomy clutch, just space for essentials. I do not think it is currently available at Nordies, but the concept of different material possibilities may serve you well for white clutches. I can manage a white leather bag, but agree that a clutch would be more challenging.

Tanya, I also use this cleaner for my Kate Spade bag (in avatar),
http://www.katespade.com/desig.....lt,pd.html
Ditto on being super careful with the magic eraser. I did use it on said bag, to remive denim transfer and I did not have any problems. The thing is that the bag is pebbled leather so it is super resillient.
As far as professionals, I no longer rely on them for these things, because I have come to the conclusion that no one would be as careful with my stuff as I will. I am OCD like that. Go on Yelp or other review sites before hand. it bothers me that most of them will tell you they will not be responsible for damage... no..no...

Wishing you luck. I have no suggestions but this potential problem has kept me from investing in a white or cream clutch because of so much contact with hands. I wondered how others keep them clean.

Coach sells a leather cleaner that has worked for me. It removes the dye from denim as well as daily use grime. I love it for my lighter color bags.
Good luck!

Cleaning light leather is tricky. I recently had a bit of ballpoint pen ink on a light colored jacket. I tried a couple of Internet suggestions. What worked in this case was rubbing alcohol, first tested on a hidden spot. It was very effective. Other lessons learned: extreme caution is indicated with Magic Eraser type products. They are abrasive and easily remove the finish on the leather. Agree that conferring with an expert makes sense. Solutions may vary depending upon both the type and finish on the leather and the nature of the dirt or stain.

I would consult with a drycleaner who does leather cleaning (most send them offsite though and I might not do that without a recommendation) Also contact the handbag maker for advice. I've seen tons of leather cleaning products and advice and services (to include putting them in the washing machine) but if this is a special bag I would not risk them.

I own two white-ish leather handbags: a big bright white tote with woven texture and a cream smooth leather satchel. They have both gotten fairly dirty from wear. To make the matter worse, they both have blue marks from jeans that rubbed onto them.
I have googled around for various cleaning advice, and tried everything that looked reasonable, including saddle soap, hand cream and hair spray among many suggestions. Nothing has worked at all and at I am at a loss what to do. Should I bring them to a professional and to which kind? They were both very pricey for me, the cream one is my only "very nice" handbag ( by Kooba) that I splurged on when I defended my PhD and I am really worried about possibly having ruined them. :(
