I was thinking about the hair as well - namely your new highlights. The lightness of those may call to slightly softer combinations in outfit.
When my hair were colored blue I felt like wearing sharper combinations in the outfits. Now with fresh haircut and with most of the blue color gone I feel more into softer, lighter colors ( still wearing a lot of black anyway but with more silver, pearls, turquoise... ).

Angie - haha , I’m listening and I hear you with regards to wearing more earth tones . 1 : I don’t have a ton of pieces in those colours and am missing those essentials to pull some statement looks together ( namely footwear and outerwear in earth tones ) and 2 : those colours are more evident at retail in fall , for obvious reasons . Not always a lot around to choose from . My closet is a sea of black- literally - and it will take years to correct that imbalance .
My work is now cut out for me !

Can I say, Lisa, that I think rocker looks good on you because it has a (not-precious) glam aspect? I feel I can’t wear a moto to save my life because there is no glamour in me at all...

I love the outfit and it does not look tired at all. If if feels off, or tired to you, then start by trying a different scarf. You mentioned that you have several to choose from. I think it is the time of year and the length of the pandemic that have many of us ready for a little something different.

It’s the winter that doesn’t seem to be ending, on top of a pandemic that’s never ending...nothing i wear feels fresh or “right”, everything feels like a repeat, so i feel what you are saying. I’m trying to make small tweaks, but at the same time wondering why I’m bothering.
sorry don’t mean to get this off in another direction...
i like this, but i do think it would look fab with sneakers, so I’m looking forward to seeing it restyled in the spring

This looks great LisaP, and if it's easy - there is still room for it in your style. Like a FFBO, maybe? (Fast Fall Back Outfit).

I've noticed that you have a fiery relationship with solid black! You can absolutely love it....and get very sick of it. Especially when you have to wear it as part of a work uniform, and you're in the depths of a Canadian Winter when you wear a lot of black anyway.

Sounds like you need a change, so it's time to evolve your style a little! Not as much rocker tough edge. I sound like a broken record, but WEAR MORE EARTH TONES! Whenever you wear those, I do a happy dance! Especially when you mix it with light blue and lighter neutrals. It's a prettier and softer vibe - like your newer blue skull scarf. And maybe, just maybe, that's what's the doctor ordered on this leg of your style journey.

As someone who also thinks of her very short hair and eyewear and the most important part of her look - I get the bit about dressing around your hair. Personally, I think of my own hair and specs "as my edge". For example, the combo effectively tempers and adds a sharpness to the classics, brights, pastels, and super pretty and romantic items I like to wear. It's my way of doing "tough" but not hard edge.

Try the skirted leggings with a soft pullover, lots of chunky jewellery and metallic sneakers. Pic for inspiration:

gryffin - as my personal style maven and dissector (?) of all that is true fashion .....thank you for your thoughts. Wearing the skirted legging more formally with a blazer is an idea I might try at work. Also - you keep reminding me about the value of a long pendant......something else to try. I honestly never wear long pendant-style necklaces - my work and casual environments don't really support them. But - I believe in what you tell me , so .....

lyn - I have lots of scarves, because I'm a sucker for textiles and pattern, but I actually don't wear a scarf at all most of the time. Weird, I know, especially with 6 months of winter to deal with every year . I can pull out the McQueen scarf and throw it on without worrying about wrinkles and it just is so perfect with most of my wardrobe, you know? But it needs a rest every once in awhile, and I think now is the time

Jenn - I had a bit of an "aha" moment when I read your comment. If my easy formula feels tired and maybe not true to me now , was it ever? My entire way of dressing was built around my hair. I'm serious. Having very short hair for most of my adult life meant trying to create a look that supported that hair style rather than fought against it or looked too plain and "butch". And yes, I imagine that word to be problematic, but I'm at a loss for a better one. Maybe I've aged out of the zippers/chains/safety pin earrings/skulls/leather look and just realized it? Ha!

Thank you to all for commenting here. As you know , if I go back a page to make sure I mention all of the thoughtful comments and ideas, I'll lose what I've written thus far. I bet you're right re: overall fatigue with black and dark clothing, with winter in general. Feeling so much prettier in lighter, softer colours lately has opened my eyes.

I agree with Suz. It is a signature. I don’t like to repeat much and hardly ever wear exactly the same outfit although some were bought to be worn a certain way. Living in a 4 season climate forces regular changes. I am about to move into “cold spring” which for me means wearing lighter and brighter colors and florals in warm fabrics through April ( our snowiest month) over the last few years I have deliberately sought out a pink wool coat, white puffer and light neutral booties and a couple of pale sweater dresses that can work for Easter. It keeps me happy until true spring arrives.

I think this looks great, but my first thought was maybe you’re feeling the colors are too dark for this time of year and that’s where your dissatisfaction is coming from. I know it’s still deep winter for a lot of us despite what the calendar says, but this time of year I start to get mighty tired of blacks and other dark colors, even though they make up a majority of my wardrobe. Introducing some lightness somewhere seems to help a bit.

Sorry but I just love this on you-as it is-each piece is great on it's own-love the trim on the booties especially. Maybe indeed a lighter outerlayer or a softer bag to it?
I always wondered (and amazed me) how can one be genuinely happy for so long with only 2 pieces of the same desing of scarves, LOL!:-) OK, they are really NOT some common ones- McQueen's sculls are a wonderful staple and your very own signiture-...but seems you can also get tired of it(?).
I love variety much more- so have a ton of scarves and use them in the same tonals with my top part or outerwear rather than doing one for all ---so you may try to find your next-new signature- one, too-will surely help escape from the old ruts.
(Earings are fab, too!:-))

Not too much to add - winter blues + pandemic blues are bound to lead to some frustration. Clearly does not look tired to others but if it does to you, lots of good suggestions to mix it up here.

It's a very put together look that looks great on you - but I understand craving something different. It may be a season change that we start feeling in February or something else ( just certain darkness/sharpness that doesn't feel right anymore ). In any case I'm sure you'll come up with another winning look pretty soon .

It looks great to me too, but I understand the feeling! Definitely thinking the winter and lockdown don't help with anything feeling fresh anymore. Including (at least for me) anything in the shops.

It feels like it *should* be a time for wanting change. Spring is coming...eventually... The quality of light is changing. Lighter things are starting to feel right due to the light, but its cold and snowy and grotty :/

Not a tired look, you look fabulous, but one that is boring to you. I get like this on my overused FFBOs too, a sense of the look wearing me rather than vice versa. Great advice from others on how to change this up. I loved your blue and earth tones outfit, that set the benchmark very high.

I agree with UF. I think you just need to play around with ingredients until it feels more you.

There are a lot of “hard” elements here (not intended as a criticism, I like hard elements too). The black, the camo top, the skulls, the boots, the leather. If you switch out one or 2 of them to something softer you might find the balance feels better. I would try a scarf in cognac (nice near your face) in a floral or abstract pattern. Something a little softer in motif than the skulls. Maybe a cognac bag too if you wanted to repeat the colour. Or keep the skulls and switch out the top. Lots of possibilities.

It's only a tired look if you're tired of it, I think. I'm interested, though, in the juxtaposition of "This outfit was SO easy to put together" and "I'm about as tough and rocker-ish as , well, NOT" because usually, the looks that are the easiest to put together would be the most genuine, wouldn't they?

Even though there is a lot of talk about DYOT, to me not every outfit looks great, nor all the “you do you”. Though since it’s “only “ clothes, I agree all that is farther down the scale than World Peace, and also that “ eyes” are different everywhere, hence glad there is no fashion czar.
But this outfit looks great as- is to me and apparently a lot of people! I mean, if you were wearing it out and about my town, you’d have no competition at all for casual chic winner. You’d be a street- style pacesetter!
But, we all have our own sense of the note we were trying to hit, that “something”, or change in mood, color cravings. So, just experiment as you like, to get things more in line with your current mood and what’s ringing your fashion bell.

Lisa - I think this looks great. It’s a terrific casual flattering and interesting look. I wear the skirted leggings against type. More Ally McBeal. Long blazer, a more refined sweater or top that covers the top band of the leggings. Often a tunic but shorter than the skirt. Boots or booties always. You are the best at the athleisure look, which looks great on you, but I’m more formal. I do like a long pendant with a longer top to accentuate the vertical integrity. You could use you scarf w a scarf clip and get the same kind of look. But I think you look great. There are so many ways to style these leggings. You just need to find the way you love them. But super chic!

LaPed - *forced* is exactly the word I was looking for. Forced and tired. Maybe it's me who is feeling forced and tired! I think you have something there though - with anything tough feeling off right now. I never thought of it that way before.

And yes to 768 days of winter and covid restrictions and all the other assorted bit of misery we are all dealing with.

This looks awesome Lisa ... I suspect winter fatigue which is spilling into dressing ... it is mid-Feb after all! Sneakers would look awesome with this, once the weather is right.

I like it. To me the olive green in this way is new and fresh. But spring *is* coming on, that does signal to me always to shake it up a bit...

Well, I love it and don’t think it looks tired at all! I really like your olive pieces and they always make me feel like I need more olive in my life.

That said, I just remember how restyling the argyle sweater made all the difference. Perhaps it does feel like too much hardware for you at the moment. Try the new booties perhaps? A different scarf? I want that scarf myself...

I suspect it is what NemosMom said rather than the look being tired. I suspect that 10 years ago you would have worn a tunic and may not have pattern mixed..........

I would view this as signature style or fall back option. Definitely one to pull out that looks really good.

I think you look great, but I agree with others that you may just be bored and looking to remix these pieces a bit. I think you will be able to do that well. I think it's a fine line with signature dressing, between boredom and pushing too far beyond one's comfort zone. Anyone looking at you would think you're chic and put-together, though.

I think everyone is probably a bit bored by this point in the winter, and the pandemic to boot! I'm only fending it off because I finally have full access to my wardrobe again after months, but I usually feel the same around this time of year....

Lisa, I think you and I are on a similar wavelength. Black/olive/white has been one of my favorite combos for a long, long time, but I've been reaching for it less this year, or looking for ways to soften it up. Maybe it's something about current stay-at-home culture? I don't know. Things that look too tough/edgy, even a little bit, feel kind of forced right now. And I love black jeans and band tees and stompy boots so much. Yours is a great outfit, signature for you as others have said. It does not read as faux-anything from the outside! And I really do think this might be a temporary state of affairs. A year from now, edgy/urban may feel like the right note to hit again. I hope so. :)
