Traci raises a good point about the belting. It will depend on the fabric composition. I couldn't successfully belt my grey knit drapey vest because it was a bit too thick and stiff (the very reasons I thought it might work better for me, ironically). But I had a waterfall sweater once that I could wear belted (it was EF, sent to me by another forum member who didn't like the colour on her) and it worked really well and was the only time I really got into drape.

I must say in the photo the white one looks smashing on you, so it may also be a case of your gentlewomanly persona preferring a more tailored appearance, more than objective looks?

I like both outfits, but agree with others that even the slight differences in the pieces make the whole looks rather different from each other. I do really like Suz's idea of wearing the white one belted sometimes. Hopefully the draped parts aren't in an awkward place for that.

These outfits are very helpful for me to see. I'm keen on the idea of a longer gilet or vest for myself, but in the past whenever I've had a vest of any sort in my closet it just doesn't get worn.

I like the white gilet. The colour is very flattering to you. As Suz says it is hard to compare the outfits. I also don't wear drapey tops because they overwhelm me. I do better in more structured and tailored tops.

I think it looks great on you (and you look great) in both flats and heels version!

I like the other outfit too, but it's sort of hard to compare. I also think it's a great idea to belt it later esp. if there is more weight loss. And I can completely identify with your feelings about this style as I can't wear it very well, either. I had a grey one, inexpensive, that I experimented with last year because I adore the style so much on others -- but I ended up wearing it about 4 times and then donating because I simply didn't like it on myself. I do better with the tailored versions.

Today was my second time wearing my newest gilet, a mid-length white one. Really, this outfit was an excuse to pull my beloved cable knit skirt out of storage without looking too boring.

Once I had the outfit together, I realized it's almost the exact inverse of one I wore (and posted) 6 months ago.
Which do you like best?

Does the drapey style of the new version work for me? It was bought sort of on the rebound, as a reward to myself for passing over the (pricier) thigh-length tailored black one I loved, because I already had a hip and a calf length structured black one... It's a bit of a departure for me; I generally avoid super flowy shapes like waterfall cardigans, because I lack the bust real estate to make them hang gracefully, and they hide the bit of waist that is emerging with weight loss; but I think this is JFE. (I did get some comments on the weight loss... but only after I switched from flats to heels.)

In the next iteration, I may crossover and belt it.
