I don’t mind trying things on. I mean, it can be tedious, but there’s always the possibility of finding something great. It’s the first time you get to see whether what was in your head actually works in the real world.

I love the choosing. I think that is the best part for me - gets me in a state of flow where my brain is occupied without being stressed. I eyeball the size usually anyhow.

So interesting to see the range of responses!

Interesting that *choosing* what to take into the dressing room is a source of anxiety for more than one of us. Angie and others: that selection process might be a good topic for future posts!

I love shopping - seeing what's new, how it's styled, treasure hunting in boutiques. But I rarely buy when "out shopping". I much prefer the deciding part to be done at home when I've got time and energy to put real thought into whether something works for me.

I'm lucky that my local thrift stores have nicer-than-average dressing rooms, and that's really the only local shopping I do. Otherwise, my dressing room is at home and not such a terrible experience. :)

I enjoy the process of shopping whether it's virtual or in-person. Walking through shops, looking at catalogues, reading online reviews is ALL good! But spending money has always been stressful for me as I was raised by extremely thrifty people. I am very slow to buy, rarely make impulse purchases, and definitely favour places with generous returns policies.

What an interesting revelation!

I'm not crazy about the dressing room phase either...maybe no one is. It's part of the reason many like online shopping. It's easier to do tryons at home. But for me it's not the choosing that's the problem. It's the hassle of getting dressed and undressed multiple times.

For me, the revelation was that I *do* like shopping, after years of despising it! :)

Yes! I’d love it if I could see a piece I like, and have it arrive magically working perfectly on my body, with all necessary complements.

I'm with you - I love to look, and I like having the end result, but the tasks in-between are quite off-putting to me. Dressing rooms are a hassle, even the basic task of SELECTING a piece - especially if said piece comes in two colors and BOTH would work well for my wardrobe (e.g., do I want this shoe in brown or burgundy? Brown goes with X, Burgundy goes with Y). Even when I bring an item home and try to make outfits with it, I don't like trying on different combinations to see what works. I just want to slip it into my wardrobe and have it work like magic, but I know it takes more work than that. That explains why I have so many jeans - they're easy!

I have started shopping for complete outfits so I don't bring home things that will become orphaned, and that is helping a little.

I love to shop, but I definitely hate the dressing room - and dressing room limits. It’s the time and effort of undressing and dressing and then doing it all over again. Being out shopping for a long time makes me feel unproductive and like my life is slipping away. And I hate the travel time. But the shopping part, I like. My ideal would be one shop a day, lol, and if all the shops could be within 15 minutes of travel

Angie's post has really stuck with me, since -- for a person who shops quite a lot -- I was astonished to discover about myself that I am, in fact, on team "no shop"!

What I like most about shopping is seeing new things, which gets the creative juices flowing. I also like having new items, which add novelty to my day-to-day look.

That said, CHOOSING clothes is just about my least favorite part of shopping. Why this and not that? In an ideal world, I would browse as much as I want (as education and entertainment), but let someone else pick new things for me -- and never have to go into a dressing room again!

What do you think? Was this kind of revelation true for anyone else?
