I love all three looks, but agree with others who've noted that #2 is iconic/perfection -- easy, confident and cool in every sense of the word.

These are great, I especially love outfit #2 on you! I am still struggling to figure out my summer style this year. For about 5 years I worked in jobs where I needed casual, easy to move in outfits that worked in high AC but also in the heat. (Worked in organic foods in various jobs so lots of customer service, lifting, weird spills, etc.) I could wear what I wanted, within reason, but the environment influenced a lot. When I was off work I often wanted to wear my much fancier dresses as a welcome change.

Then for the past two years I’ve been a self-employed artist and done frequent childcare for a now toddler. Add in the pandemic and I honestly have no idea what I want to wear on a day to day basis. When I first became self-employed I thought I’d want to dress up more often. I’m realizing that isn’t true, but I’m uncomfortable wearing the very casual outfits that I used to need for past jobs. I need to get serious with journaling and note-taking in order to sort this out!

You are so in-tune with your style that even a seasonal shift looks authentic. It’s not like - “new season, new me!” Your palette is a noticeable change, but still cohesive with your wardrobe.

I am with you on changing necklines and fit preferences. I only wear my crew neck tees under my knitwear now; every other top is v, turtleneck, or wide - like a deep boatneck or square. I find the shape more flattering on my upper body, although it can fight with my long neck and narrow face.

My own palette is moving away from greens (I already have so so much) and I am adding more warmer blues(petrol), teals, yellow, and various shades of brown.

These are great!
I'm continuing my track from last year, moving more classic/neutral and away from brights/boho. I've added more light (to me) neutrals than normal, but dark brown too. More joggers than leggings, and enjoying my swishy maxi- all those for cooler weather of course. Started readding jewelry- small earrings and occasional necklaces or bracelets. Not reaching for scarves or heels over 2 inch.

Nice work Carla - and yes all good things take time. It takes a while to find the right new pieces and to exit the older ones.

I love these outfits especially no 2.

For me, I don't particularly feel a shift this year, although I am no longer feeling the retro style that I used to lean to at times.

I love how you approach your style shifts in such a business plan kind of way. This kind of plan and implementation makes me happy.
As always your outfits look fabulous and meet your current direction/aesthetic.
This spring/summer I suddenly realize that I am actually willing to wear shorts. I am usually not a fan of shorts on myself and last year spent most of quarantine in midi dresses or wide legs jumpsuits. As I have been WFH most of this time my relaxed light boho style took over my business look.

Runcarla it’s always a pleasure to read your well thought out wardrobe musings. I’m struck once again by the interesting overlap in our styles. I also have “no crewnecks” and “no short sleeves” rules for figure flattery reasons. I also find that sleeveless tops are much more flattering on me. Although, my best necklines are scoop and cowl rather than v and turtle— maybe reflecting your observation that I’ve got a bit more yin and you’ve got a bit more yang?

Such great outfits here — crisp, cool, and practical. Relaxed gentlewoman style.

@ Angie - 3/4 sleeve or bracelet length are my fave, and I am forever rolling or pushing up my sleeves. Though I might wear a longer sleeve for sun protection, they will be more of a cool weather thing. A short sleeve that ends at the bicep seems to promote the linebacker look, so I need a different sleeve style - or none at all!

Carla, I'm not sure about the Eccos. I think they were a mistake. They probably don't have enough arch support for me. But I'll keep them and give them a shot. They were on sale (a past seasons model) and fill a need (if they work) but I suspect I might not get as much use of them as I could wish. Oh well. Worth a try.

Runcarla: I think there have been a lot of threads about how hard it is dressing for Summer. Maybe it’s because I am from an area that is half Summer and half Not Summer, but I don’t find it a challenge. I have learned not to depart from my core palette or style just because it’s Summer; if that means wearing tan and burgundy cotton skirts when everyone else is in red and blue, or having a tropical moment, or wearing Cabo pieces, that’s fine with me. I also have the same rules; gear only for sporting activities, and a functional wardrobe of separates for the rest of the time. I particularly like changing out of my gear after a hike and drifting around in floaty skirts and dresses.

Nice to see your evolution, these more retro inspired outfits are fab.
I'm always evolving my style to incorporate fresh silhouettes and selected trends. I'm still moving towards straight leg trousers and midi skirts/dresses, and expanding my color palette to include more greens and purples. I am also selectively adding nineties throwback trends as and when I'm drawn to them. But my baseline silhouette and essential colors haven't changed in a year or two.

@ Suz - nice additions to your closet. I like your printed blouses. Do the Ecco sandals have good walkability?

@ Bonnie - interesting new items. The green/teal colour way seems like a new direction?

@ Fashintern - thanks for the compliment, but the skin isn’t as snug as it has been in the past. Hopefully we will be out of lockdown soon and the pools will open. FWIW, it’s crew-neck tops, not socks. :-D

@ Bijou - with longer hair (thank you Covid lockdowns) I’m feeling the Katherine Hepburn vibe more. I’m down for the 1940’s menswear and off duty movie star vibe of Katherine, Grace Kelly, and others who wore trousers, cropped slim fit high waisted pants, rolled jeans, crisp tailored button downs, and silk scarves. Sorry to learn about your injury, and wishing you a complete recovery.

@Robin - crew necks, especially with boxy menswear shapes, are less figure flattering on my broad shoulder/modest bust shape - whereas a V neck cuts the broadness downward and a turtleneck elongates the line upward. A wide bateau neckline is a workable option as well.

@ Irina - your S/S silhouette of wide+cropped sounds like a perfect sophisticated urban look. Fingers crossed we get good news today, and things open up in June.

@ Nancy - took me a while to learn the lesson about wovens! :-D

I am definitely headed in a different direction this Summer. I have worn out more of the dressier clothing I purchased for work and this summer will be wearing more casual pants (joggers, cargos and crop jeans), casual dresses and skirts, and casual tops (dressy t-alternatives). It’s been a bit of a rolling experiment while I figure out what works and what doesn’t— basically I have been buying one incarnation of something and trying it out. I learned I still don’t like logo Ts, fashion sneakers, etc., and so I have been figuring out how to do polished casual for Team Dressy.

Bijou is spot on - Hepburn vibes for sure! Really suits you.

I am not sure I am making any conscious shifts in dressing, probably because I overbought for last summer--being stuck in a very warm home called for different clothes than 5 days a week in Arctic air con. I panic bought some stuff and now I have a bit too much. Some is of poorer quality and will leave my wardrobe by attrition sooner. Some is nicer quality and will leave my wardrobe over time. Since I ought not to buy too much, I don't foresee a big shift, though I've added more pink.

That said.... I always buy some summer stuff because I have a weakness for it.

Why am I not surprised that your approach to a style shift is calm, thoughtful, un-fraught, and sensible. You look amazing in these - #2 is absolutely timeless fabulousness.

I like the first two outfits very much! But also # 3 of course. So chic and relaxed.
For Summer I think I will stick to my usual style of breezy dress + sandals. It's the only things I can stand especially in the "tropical" part of Summer, as I call it - 35 and above deg C with 80-90% humidity. :(

More love for #2 -- that outfit is perfection! You wear collared shirts spectacularly well. And I wish I could figure out how to make a scarf look that good on my head.

I love the sleeveless blouses! They are crisp and cool looking. Going into my third summer in the American south, I have realized that a woven blouse feels lighter and breezier than a knit. #3 looks good too, easy summer boho.

Love your outfits, Carla, #2 is my favorite. As always, your style is so elegant and relaxed at the same time. You have a clear vision of your style and able to execute it despite our circumstances. Impressive!
I’m done with my S/S shopping but I don’t exactly shop per seasons and add off-season items if I find them on sale.
Last year I purchased a pair of wide leg summer pants and cropped sweaters. This year I continue with wide + cropped silhouette. This is a shift for me, away from straight pants and long tops. I’m buying more casual clothes, this is a change in my style forced on me by the current situation. My problem is that I haven’t worn most of my wardrobe due to lockdowns. In theory, all my new items should work with clothes I own. But I haven’t tested it and this makes me feel uneasy.
