This is a beautiful color and pattern... I like the swishy idea too Perfect for a drapey fabric. I think WW will keep you from going astray with a choice that doesnt work with the fabric.
I would have bought it too! It's such a gorgeous print and color. And WW will stop you if she sees issues that you don't...and then you have a really nice maxi for around the house (or strapless dress)! All for a few dollars. Prints really speak to me sometimes. I guess that's why I bought a Theory mini-dress and converted it into a long-sleeved blouse. I knew I couldn't live without that snake print. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

If I have time tomorrow, I'll post some pics of how the skirt looks on me now, pin it as a pencil skirt, and see if I can pin it as a swishy skirt and get your feedback. This will give a better idea of pattern scale.

I'm also wondering how difficult it would be to make it into a hi-lo skirt?

A word of caution, from someone who's turned maxis into knee length and regretted it. The pattern can end up seeming like the wrong scale for the piece - once you think of this it's easy to check in advance.

Shannon: What a beautiful print! As I return to sewing, I'm all the more sensitive to glorious patterns and to the "hand" of the fabric -- the structure, softness, stretch, etc. I second Sveta's comments --- this is probably a thinner fabric, and would work better with a little swish!
Eliza - I have to go found that link now. Sounds fabulous! Actually one of the things I really liked about this skirt is the substantially wide waistband. It's about two inches wide and sits really nice and flat. Great for not adding any bulk if you have a top untucked and perfect for tucking. Thanks for the info.

Gorgeous print. To reinforce moving forward with this, as well as considering a bit of flair in the skirt, I just read a great fashion blog post last week about how to style a stunning, multi-colored Prada skirt 12 ways, by month of the year. Though I never wear skirts, this post made me want to almost empty my closet with the author's approach. Forgive my failing memory, but I will come back to look for it or someone else here will have seen it. I am limited in my Internet access for awhile. Suffice it to say, that booties, shoes, sandals, blazers, jackets, sweaters, shells and bags, picking up different print colors by season, made even the Prada price point look reasonable.

Your wise shopping gives you room to really have fun. Quite the eye for possibilities you have. The Prada skirt had a wider style waist band and was somewhat full, with shades of green, burgundy, blue, yellow, etc. in an appealing print. It was one of those ever so fresh, yet impossible to date exactly styles (classic, but so now - with some longevity). The blog is great example of how to play with one very special piece. I bet someone will identify it as it was discovered using some familiar bloggers links around here.

Enjoy your purchase!

Denise (and Suz and Sveta) - you're BRILLIANT!!! I didn't even think of a swishy-flirty skirt. I absolutely LOVE that idea! I don't own a single one and wouldn't that be a fun style for the summer? Plus that will be a less expensive alteration and will not require a lining (you are right about that Sveta).

Diana - wow, that Anthro fabric is so similar, isn't it? And I love the idea of an infinity scarf. There should definitely be enough fabric - thank you for that fab idea :)

Mamapicklejuice - because I'm not the easiest person to fit, to have something custom made in fabric I love, I don't find $60 too expensive. But that's just me :)

Thanks for not thinking I'm crazy - well, at least about this anyway - lol!

Suz - yeah, isn't that white leather jacket gorgeous? did you try it on?

Not at all! The only word of caution: if fabric is pretty thin or pretty stretchy you may need a lining for a pencil skirt.
Why don't you try to make it into a shorter flared skirt - especially if you don't have many of those. Flare is actually more heat-friendly as it is not a hot as a pencil.
You wise woman! In fact, you have bought fabric for a skirt. You now have good quality material in a design that you love for 6.99$. In a fabric shop, you could barely buy one yard of cheap quilting cotton for that sort of money! Make sure to post pictures of the skirt when it's done.
