Angie, I saw there was one pair left in the size down, so I ordered them to compare. Hubs loves the look of them on me but also agrees that they’re a little big in the waist and upper hip. Certainly a doable alteration but we’ll see what the other size looks like just to be safe.

Janet, you might want to try a size down on those DL's just in case. Sometimes the lengths are the same across a few sizes.

I'm having similar difficulties. I have full thighs also, and everything looks like a skinny on me. At least I am short so don't have to worry about the cropped issue! I love the look of jeans that are somewhat loose fitting and skimming, but my thighs have other plans, lol.

Thank you, Janet for the response and feedback! My legs are not as long as yours, but I have thick thighs and calves and prefer the longer line of a full length that isn't leg sucking. I can't believe it's so hard to find the perfect straight leg jean that covers boot tops. Darn unicorn jeans!

Sorry to hear the COH didn't work. I am holding out hope for you on the DL1961s! Hopefully they don't bag out.

Hi nemosmom! I ordered these three to try. The COH are actually more low-ish rise than I want and they run small (at least they do on me), so those were not what I wanted at all — they’re packed up and ready to return. I don’t know how I missed the rise description.

The AG’s are not bad. They fit well in the waist and hip but are still close on the leg (I have thick legs, they probably fit other people better *heavy sigh*). They are not tight per se, it’s just that I’m wanting a slightly looser fit in the thigh down through the knee. Also, they have whiskering at the hips that is not my favorite.

The DL1961 jeans are a nice style — true straight leg, uniform wash, and a little more roomy. In fact, in my usual size I think I need the waist taken in. They are roomy in the waist and tummy and I need to wear them around the house to see if they bag out and get too loose with wear. Also keeping in mind that I think I’m at or near my peak weight at the moment, I pondered a size down, but that will probably make the thigh slightly tighter and also make them too short. As it is, they are *just* long enough to wear over fitted-ankle booties. I could release the hems for a bit more length and a bit more casual, current look. I might order the smaller size just to see if they work, but the last thing I want is more leg-sucking jeans.

I can’t tell you how much I envy women who have so many denim style options that look good on them. It seems like one out of a hundred pairs of jeans actually suits me, and nothing trendy ever looks good. It’s so discouraging.

i have had bad luck with kut in the past (too much stretchy-ness, saggy crotch etc) but, i found and absolutely LOVE the gretchen - kind of mini boot cut higher rise (not too high as i dislike that on myself) lighter wash. hard to find - i saw them on amazon.

i got mine at nordstrom rack.

GS, Agolde came up a few times in my search and I had no idea whether they would work for me, so thank you for the info! There is nowhere near me (that I know of, might be some boutique in DC but that requires a trip into the city) that carries some of these brands, so I’m totally flying in the dark when it comes to Shopbop and some other online retailers. Some designers seem so tempting but it’s daunting to fork out those prices for a try-on, even though returns are relatively easy.

I've really been loving AGOLDE jeans recently (confusingly, these are not the same as AG). Especially the 100% cotton ones - the lyocell blends bag out too much. There are many different cuts with higher waists and straight or slim-not-skinny legs.

I suspect my legs are the same proportion as yours (muscles! and weight gain always goes to my thighs). I've been so happy with the AGOLDE fit, aside from their skinnies (too small in the thighs). The others I've tried are all perfect (Jamie, Riley, and Cherie).

My current favorites are the Cherie, and it sounds similar to what you want. They are styled with a deep cuff, and unfolded, they might be full length on you. I have them in a distressed black but I saw that they're releasing them in a non-distressed wash for this spring.

I consistently take the smaller of my two current sizes.

LOL Angie — I’m happy for shorter legged ladies who are having an easier time of it now, but it’s tough out here if you don’t want cropped!

BJ, I have a pair of Levi’s skinnies from a couple of summers ago with a slightly higher rise, and they are really great. I haven’t checked out their newer offerings. I am finding that tops have gotten shorter and just don’t play well with the lower rises. I’m not going as far as 12” rises but I am getting used to a good mid rise. Especially for back coverage!

Shopbop did provide some leads, albeit expensive ones. And perhaps more whiskering and distressing than I would prefer, but not out of the question. It just hurts to place an order for nearly a thousand dollars to find one pair of jeans, ya know?

Great thread and great suggestions. I am surprised at how quickly I became used to and preferred a higher rise considering I had to make peace with my peri menopausal tummy pooch.

Thanks for the suggestions, and for the commiseration! It can be hard to replace an old favorite.

I still have my two old pairs of AG boyfriend jeans too, which I wear but they are very narrow at the ankle — rolled up they are almost tight there (but they do loosen with wear). But those are not wearable at full length — they look odd that way. Plus they’re a bit on the shorter rise side.

It would appear that what I am looking for is another full-length straight-leg jean with a leg opening at the hem of around 15” — many of these are narrower. This is the width that actually ends up looking like a straight leg on my particular legs. Narrower ones are called “straight leg” jeans in many cases, but on me, they appear more like skinnies, and I have the skinny silhouette more than covered.

Then of course it’s another matter completely to find the right rise, and a good wash that isn’t full of holes or too much whiskering. LOL So much work!

Kkards, I tried on the Madewells and really liked them. I think it was this style or similar. The only issue was the wash, which had more distressing than I liked, and they didn't have a pair in my size without. But I will definitely look at Madewell again -- I liked the fit.

Janet ---i'd give madewell a try...they have tall and in some cases extra tall that could work...based on the leg openning they give for the smallest size, i feel like they could be pretty close to the AG tomboys
Suz--i still love my dre's but mostly for really casual days, like you i'm feeling the rise is just a smidge lower than what i reach for these day...i bougth these boywell madewell's right after Xmas, and feel that they are slowing replacing the dre's as my "every day" jeans....

I went through a jean search in the spring to replace my beloved straight jeans that had worn through. I ended up with a pair of Frame which I like a lot.

I am on my own version of this search, Janet. The BF style was great for my thighs, but I have passed on the lower rise (and now, too snug) Rag and Bone Dres that I had (except my burgundy pair which I can't part with completely yet.) Of course, I need a shorter inseam than you do.

It turns out that the "straight" versions and baby boots don't work as well on me as the slightly tapered (more mom jean) type -- but in any case, I've collected a bunch of potentials. Note that I collected cropped versions because of my own height but there are regular versions of almost all of them.

The Olivias are probably slimmer than you might like. I sized up in a blue pair, though, and I would say the overall effect on me is like a higher waisted BF. So far, so good. I got a black pair in my regular size. I can wear them cuffed or full length.

A lot of people like the Rileys. I could not find a size that would work for me. Same with the Levis -- I think I would have to try on dozens of them to get an actual fit -- different washes fit completely differently.

The frustrating thing for me is that looking at them on the models tells me nothing about how they will look on me.
