I also return quite a bit. I am trying to return less but online shopping is a crap shoot. In store I sometimes think I am sure but when I try with my wardrobe decide against. It is a pain but well worth it to have items you love to wear.

I return a lot. It hurts, for sure, but it's better to be satisfied than sorry. It's worst when you are still building a working wardrobe because sometimes then you don't really have anything to wear! But it's bothersome in your situation as well. Hang in there. I find that I have vastly improved my online shopping average after a few years of online shopping. It takes a long time to figure out fit models and so on.

Thanks all for sharing your experiences! AviaMariah, I agree - in the long run, the frustration of returns (and of having something that you think will be perfect not work out) is outweighed by the happiness of a wardrobe of great items.

I return all the time because I shop mostly online-- even when I shop styles I know from companies I love (for example Gap and Nordies change their tees every year just a bit even if you wear the ones they have carried for years). I like to shop from companies with free shipping and returns or otherwise great return policies because I can return 20+ pieces in a season, easily.

I'm in the same boat this year! I'm getting ready to return a Ted Baker top that I was sure I would love and some booties that I got for a really good price. They're both ok and I probably would have kept them in the past. But I'm having a hard time letting any thing that's not close to a "10" stay. I think this is a good thing (although frustrating on the return front).

Oh, sure - I think we've all had times of nothing working out. My search for white pants bombed this year - if they fit, they were too sheer; if the fabrication was perfect the fit was off. Like I always say, it's not like I don't have anything else to wear.

Alas, another highly anticipated delivery of items last night (a wrap dress and a pair of ballet flats), and another set of returns today - it seems like I've returned everything that I've ordered this season, and I've spent quite a bit of time scouring the fall collections online looking for a handful of items. On the plus side, I love everything in my closet and cleared out some space for any new purchases, and I know that it's better to return the not-quite-perfect new items. And for the most part, the items on my list - an additional work dress, one more long-sleeved weekend dress, a second winter coat, one more pair of ballet flats - aren't necessary to get by, they would just add a bit of variety to my capsules. Still, I can't help but wishing that at least one item had worked out. Anyone else have a spell like this? Fingers crossed for a few wins later in the season!
