TG! So good to see you. I found my eight years in a preschool extremely challenging in terms of wardrobe. Not sure if you're actually in the classroom but if so, you know that even if you can find something cute and washable to wear that doesn't make you look like one of the children, you might get through half a day before a small person who loves you dearly manages to get some of his/her art project/lunch/runny nose onto your clothing.

My plus-size sister-in-law recently took her dream job as an administrator in the preschool she adores and is in and out of the classrooms all day, very hands-on with the little people, but needing to look like she's in charge. We decided her uniform would be washable knit blazers over washable "fancy tees" (knits with ruching or some other detail to give them shape); and on the bottom, washable plain black trousers or "dressy jeans" (dark wash trouser style) with flat booties.

She looks fabulous and doesn't worry about jumping in to fingerpaint if the mood strikes.

Thanks everyone for your kind replies! Chiara, I'm not sure which is technically more correct, but the way you've said it is how I would say it :)
Barbara, try it! They actually look really nice together I think :)
Beth Ann, quite right, a "rut" isn't so bad to navigate once the basics are in good shape.
Psychedelic, the analyst offers sixteen seasons ... Each season has a true version as well as three variations (e.g. summer also had cool, light or muted). She also then customized the recommendations; for example, she recommended that if I wear a lighter cor from the palette that I combine it with a deeper shade, and she added a few colors from the cool palette to my palette, such as a raspberry and a true blue.
Smittie, yes, I think we are palette-sisters. Your outfit with white jeans sounds fab.
Style fan, I have a bit of a Roots problem actually ... I live in Roots hoodies and socks in the winter and this is my second bag. I have never regretted a Roots purchase.
Everyone, thanks again for the kindness and encouragement

Glad to "see" you again! I have been wandering what you were up to...
Thanks for the update.
I have been fighting against style ruts for a long time, then this Fall I decided to embrace it. Think of it like a personal uniform: the discussion on successful people having an uniform has been around for a while.
And your idea of spicing up your uniform with color is a great one - avoid boredom and still mainrain the practicality of the uniform.
(Technical question: the "up" after spicing is in the right position, or it would sound better after "uniform"? Tx)

I hear you on the need for a practical work wardrobe! I think your sophisticated and feminine color choices are a great way to keep things interesting while keeping dressing simple. I get in ruts, too, but I have noticed that, since I've been on the forum, my ruts are much more fashionable -- things are in good condition and well-fitting, and even the "basic outfit formula" is always appropriate, if not as creative and stylish and my ideal.

To glad to see you back on the forum!

Congrats on the new job! I love those colors together, I used to wear them more but not as much lately. As you said, a bit of contrast but not too bright/intense. So now you have your new capsule, and can add from there!

Hello TG, If you have a uniform that works, that's all you need with such a busy lifestyle. Love that purple purse!
With all these new colours, I highly doubt you need to be on high alert against a style rut.

I am paying attention to your journey as I think we have very similar colouring.
I like the idea of more contrast for myself.
I think I'll try white jeans and black turtleneck tomorrow (provided it's not too mucky out) and see how that goes.

Hi there, well having disappeared for a while, I thought I'd offer a quick update on my style journey! A few things have happened lately that have side-lined my style, but such is life. Here are a few of the lighter updates:

I am now working part-time and have a uniform of sorts (black pants, solid colored top) and as I work in a preschool, practicality takes precedence. By the time I get home, do housework and school work (I'm 1/2 heartedly pursuing a diploma), and exercise, I am generally past the window where I care about putting a more 'me' outfit together! So I am on potential style-rut high alert at the moment. (hence glad I am finding some time to stop by!)

I am a bit obsessed with color analysis and recently had a proper in-person analysis done (I've done online ones for fun in the past; some free, some paid - but never was fully confident). I was determined as a muted summer, with the deeper colors of the palette looking best. This is in line with my instinctual color comfort zone, and because I saw the analysis, I feel a little more confident that these colors really do harmonize with me, meaning I can wear them without feeling overly conspicuous and thus more comfortably (for my personality).

Since I am playing with color, I have modified my five style adjectives to: casual, polished, classic, contrast OR color, Kate (Middleton). A bit of contrast keeps neutrals from being boring, or color adds interest on its own.

Given my new color fun, plus a bit of extra spending money, I have indulged in just a few purchases, which I am really enjoying this fall - in particular, a fine-knit plum sweater (in Finds), a dusty aqua scarf (similar color in Finds), and a purple purse (which I LOVE) from Roots which I have attached a photo of. I even wear all three colorful pieces together, which is a big style stretch for me!! Purple and aqua together on me; will wonders never cease?? :D

Anyways - not overly exciting, but that's me. Looking forward to catching up with everyone else's style journeys! xx
