These are both so fun! My personal fave is the leather jacket one (because I like the hard edge for myself) but that t-shirt in the second outfit really makes the second one a masterpiece IMO

Joy I want to be as cool as you!! First outfit is incredible. LOVE. Second I think might work better with actual leggings (a pair that's a little above the ankle, I think) and a graphic tee with a little more black in it for balance. Your wardrobe is amazing, you're always able to pull out ensembles!

Shevia, thank you. So far I have not worn either of these out but am seriously considering it when it gets colder ( like next week). This will probably involve boots or booties as snow is predicted along with the cold temperatures. In fact, I can see wearing leggings or pants under skirts and dresses as very common in the future...maybe a signature look. As I get older, I run colder and want the coverage.

I love #1! So sleek and refined despite the rock n roll vibe. The original outfit had a longer skirt but I think the shorter skirt you wear in #1 works better with the longer jeans. And the shoes are perfect for it.

JP! I missed your helpful post. I will try an athletic brand pant that I used to wear as leggings and maybe what Brooklyn remembers. If that does not work, I may sacrifice a pair of skinny straights to have the alterations you suggest.

Thank you for your comments, LaPedestrienne and Jane. They are very helpful.
Footless tights are a good idea to still show some ankle
I agree that the printed skirt is too long. I may try to roll the waist band to get a look at the proportions of a shorter length. It is rather sheer so usually needs a slip under it, but I kind of liked that the leggings would show a bit through the skirt

I LOVE your leather jacket, Joy! And, the black skirt ensemble is great, but I think the released hem is a little too long. I read about your leggings issue, that could be an easy fix. You can have it taken in from the inseam. Wear it inside out and have someone pin it for you close to your legs and if you have a sewing machine sew it yourself or take it to alterations.

#1 is great. Rocker Pretty -- you could totally use that as a style moniker if you were so inclined. The printed skirt is a bit busy for my taste.

You know -- I'm not sure if it's the released hem that distracts, or the length. One inch shorter and I think the jeans would look just right.

My body type is the opposite of yours (small waist, big legs), and I still find leggings hard to fit. If the fit is not very precise in the waist, they ride down and I end up with drop-crotch leggings, awful. High-waisted styles from athletic brands are pretty much the only ones that work for me. One thing you might consider are opaque footless tights -- I used to have a bunch from drug stores/Target/etc in a variety of colours. They were very useful when I had a wider repertoire of skirts. I wonder if you could get a leggings effect with them.

So many helpful comments. To expand on my leggings problem...I have what are sold as leggings, but because of my skinny legs and wide waist, they fit more as skinny straights. I do have something that does not have a released hem that may work.

I like both of these and it's really striking in each what a difference the leggings make versus stockings. In a perfect world you might have actual leggings, even if they're a little long? The outfits are so great already I think boots and not too opaque tights would work too.

Wow,Madonna eat your heart out!I think you ve done a fab job on this especially considering that as a look it’s really far removed from my comfort zone.I ve tried to analyse what makes it work for me and I think that it’s the fact that all of the pieces that you ve used either match or tone colour wise so although the outfit is busy in the amount of clothing it’s calmed down by the clever use of colour.Well played!

I love that leather jacket!

I personally feel that the released hems overpower the ensemble. I think that the idea was that the leggings should "blend in" with the outfit; here, the released hems seem to steal the show. You could try the first look with regular leggings if you want to experiment more with the ensemble.

On the second outfit, I think that the skirt may be a little too long to work well with ankle-length leggings; I think the two hems will be too close together. As a short person, I kind of find the look hard to pull off--too many horizontal lines on the legs makes me look stumpy.

I love the first outfit Joy. You have such great style! Not sure about the second outfit. I think the jeans might look a little heavy here with the skirt. Maybe if you were wearing something heavier on top than the tee (eg a sweater) that would balance things out.
I thought a while back you wore some leggings peeking out from a dress? I thought of you wearing that when I saw Angie’s post.
