I also have a bag this color and a couple of jackets. I think it already is very close to my preferred lipcolor and agree that is a good way to help tie it in.

I decided so far not to go with the same color shoes or belt as I have so many belts already and I'm set with cognac and taupe shoes for F/W. I am thinking of the bag being sort of a pop of color with denim blue, olive, charcoal, navy and white.

After getting out my black sweater dress yesterday and discovering why I hardly ever wear i is with black or off black hose or tights and black shoes it is too much. so I am picturing it wit burgandy shoesm nude hose, and a burgandy print scarf, or necklace with burgandy beads. So this may be another way for you to bookend, neckwear. Also chockers are suposed to be trending this season, so burgandy velvet chocker.

Love these colors.
There is a difference between the cooled burgundies and the " Marsala" or brownish reds. I have both, though the cooler versions are more my palette, but I will get some items in the warmer tone when retailers are channeling that, if the item ( top, footwear) really fills a niche( if the shoe fits...).
I don't find myself able to get very different Reds to go together that well, though Angie showed some ensembles once with some good unusual color blocking. For example, it's harder ( for me) to mix a cool burgundy belt with a warm dark red handbag- another color altogether, such as cognac, might be needed . OTOH, they can be combined in prints quite well with some bridging colors.
So a fun HEWI for me is a print such as a scarf, or a fantastic tweed, which successfully mixes both warm and cool dark reds.
Back to question, I find these good for Bookending fif me with medium- dark brown hair. I'm not matching color, but shade or tone or whatever- "dark" but not black is still grounding but adds some interest.

I bought these. I'm blonde so no bookending there. I did buy a few tops in this colour (pattern, solid) but won't limit myself to those pairings. I tried them on with many bottoms and couldn't make them NOT work.

It is a gorgeous color and I am planning to wear a lot of it this season, as evidenced by my recent post with all the color combos. I particularly like the slightly unusual combo of burgundy with navy and blush.

I think of it as pseudo-neutral and it if goes well with almost anything. Since I wear cool colors I like to combine it with other cooler tones such as various blues, but it can also be my own version of warm colors such as rust that I personally can not wear. Thus I do not think it is important for it to bookend the hair, but it is nice to echo it somewhere else in the outfit, like in a pattern. I have various shades or the color, some more blue/pink based, the others slightly warmer. As long as they do not obviously clash, I like the idea of wearing more pieces at once and may even try it head-to-toe when I am feeling brave as Shopbop recommends as one of the main trends for the season: https://www.shopbop.com/boutiq.....165280.htm

I am glad to hear that many find this kind of burgundy color a go-with-anything shade, as I was not able to convince myself to return the Born booties I bought in this color at NAS. :) I was thinking that I could use it just like a brown or cognac color, including bookending with these colors. I am trying to break the chains of "matchy-matchiness" but I don't want to look like I got dressed in the dark either!

Definitely look for a fun floral top! Really, I think this colour goes with all autumnal shades (mustard, most greens, browns) really really well. And also with blues, black, grey and some pinks/ orchids/ berries and cognate reds. Plus white, cream, silver...So it's exceptionally versatile. I really don't think you can go wrong with it.

I like the pic of the top you posted Carla. Some maroons are on the warmer side which might be more flattering to your skin. I think we have similar skin tones. I also use to have more vibrant hair colour. I keep forgetting that it isn't the same as it once was.
Lots of burgundy out there. Also olive green. Makes me happy.

Wow! Such good ideas!

Suz - cranberry has always been such a good colour for you. I think it will be even more stunning with your silver hair. I like the idea of repeating the colour in a patterned topper, anD since I've retired some tops, I'm in the market. I'm kind of inspired by Mochi's foray into florals and wonder if a top like the one below might be in my future?

Janet - I did think dark hair would be a natural, and agree that blues would work well too. Maybe with my dark wash mini boot cuts and cognac jacket, in the manner of Style Fan's outfit only the accessories (shoes, belt, bag) would be maroon?

Maroon as the cool version of cognac is such a brilliant way to think of this colour, l'Abeille. Cognac is a natural for me because it bookends my hair colour, whereas maroon does not. On the other hand I once had a maroon coloured turtleneck that got a lot of compliments...but my hair was more vibrant in those days. There was contrast, like SF's outfit.

Traci, Viva - I like the idea of a matching lippy. I'm pretty simple with make-up, but do lippy, and Clinique Black Honey might be a good match. Layered over another more pigmented lippy it might gain the presence required? I Love wine polish, but only do tootsies - so they would be hidden.

I love this colour. And I love that bag. I just bought a pair of Jen7 pants in a purple burgundy colour from the NAS. They go great with cognac, mustard and olive. They also look great with my burgundy brown boots. I find it to be a very versatile neutral.
I like the idea of wearing lipstick or nail polish in that colour. I don't wear such a strong colour on my lips and I don't wear nail polish (only toe polish). Would you?
Here is a pic of my pants with cognac.

I have a pair of loafers and a belt in Cordovan. I just think of it as my (cool) version of cognac, and wear it with everything, which is mostly neutrals anyway. But I love to add the belt to tweak an outfit that was just black and grey or black and navy.

I don't worry that much about bookending (but I think it just happens naturally for me since I have dark hair and mostly wear dark shoes!), but I wouldn't fret the bookending thing if I were you. I think burgundy colors are great for pairing with your olives, greys, and mustard. Also with blues. I would go for the burgundy shoes! I'm a big fan of that color.

Beautiful bag and belt!! And it looks like the colour of my new bag as well, or awfully close.

I don't think it would exactly bookend with anyone's hair unless that hair were a true auburn (or a beautifully hennaed head?) So your idea of echoing elsewhere in the outfit makes sense to me. I would treat it as a neutral, really, and not worry overmuch about "matching" in every outfit. But it would be nice to pick up on it elsewhere if you wanted. A patterned top, maybe?

I do in fact have garments in similar (though not identical) tones -- my Vince dress, the new Dre jeans, my cranberry sweater. I also have a scarf that includes something related.

ETA: my Hibou boots from Little Burgundy were a similar colour though perhaps a bit more on the purple side of burgundy. (I wore them through in one year, which tells you how much they worked as a neutral for me!). I didn't try to match them with anything as a rule, and wore them easily with navy, denim, black bottoms. I did wear them often with patterned blouses that included a hint of the colour, as with your scarves.

Maroon, wine red, Oxblood, Marsala - whatever. There is this red brown (more red than brown) that was very much in evidence at NAS and that I am starting to see in stores for F/W. In particular I am seeing it in footwear. Everything from pointy toe heels through loafers and oxfords to leather sneakers. I really want to add a pair of shoes this colour to my closet to wear with grey, olive, and mustard.

Last month I picked up a leather bag (Rudsak) and belt Punto Fibbia, and I know I can use them to bookend. I have no garments in this colour, but 2 scarves.

Any ideas? How does this colour bookend with hair?
