Taking in account a little stretching is a good idea, but you should never buy a pair of jeans you dread squeezing yourself into. There's a happy medium out there somewhere. I just love my Paige Hidden Hills. The rise is comfortable at 8.5-9" (no muffin top), I can wear my true size and they don't stretch out horribly in the butt and thigh.

ETA: Other higher rise premium denim that I've liked in addition to Paige Hidden Hills is the Paige Rising Glen. I only see this style on eBay now, though.

I hate tight fitting pants. I feel your pain! I buy a 28, but whenever I have been fitted they will try to fit me into a 26 or 27.
I just bought 3 pairs of jeans at Charlotte Russe of all places. I bought their Refuge brand skin tight legging jean, and it feels very comfortable. I have skinny calves and bigger thighs, so I bought a size up and got skinny jeans without the discomfort (and they don't bag out!)

I like the Gap sexy boyfriend jeans, but the different washes change the fit, so I would try them on.

Just FYI, I found a pair of NYDJ at a Nordstrom Rack that feel like pajamas, fit snug but not tight and look great. They say "skinny" on the label, but they're not - they're straight. Very flattering. I have tried NYDJ in the past and they didn't fit me at all, but these have stretch and are very comfy.

Wow, sounds like a tight squeeze! Hopefully you will find an SA who is more willing to help determine what you want, instead of going with their own aesthetic.

However, in my experience form-fitting jeans should be on the tight side, because they will loosen up/bag out at least half a size during the day. But of course that depends on the style and material of the jean.

Good luck at a Nordstrom or other such store!

Funny, what is the bathtub method? I missed out on fashion in my youth ;)

But as far as I can tell, the tighter the better seems the experience for bra fittings also, "oh you are x, well then according to web measures you add 4. But what we will do is subtract 4, how does that fit? Cannot breath? OK, well then it's perfect!"

How do you gals wear those things?

My friend used to wear her jeans that tight back in the day.
Got "Calvin Klein syndrome."

"What causes the front muscle on both legs to feel numb?

Tight pants What you're describing sounds like Meralgia paresthetica.
Also known as "Calvin Klein Syndrome," it is caused when tight pants compress
the nerve going to the front of your thigh. The treatment is to wear
looser-fitting clothing. "

I *do* totally remember the shrink to fit bathtub experience!
I also had a gal putting me into 26's a few years back when I was first looking for premium denim. Seemed the smallest you could possibly manage to get on was best. No thanks. I, like you, left empty handed.

How annoying and frustrating!! Nothing like speaking and NOT being heard.

I highly recommend trying a Nordstrom stylist, if you have a store near you. The service is free and you can explain what you're looking for, exactly, and hopefully they will listen!

You could even stop in, meet the stylist, explain what you're looking for, and then set up an appt. When you return for your appt, she can have a selection of jeans ready for you to try on. This is a major timesaver!

I would also explain that you've had a denim "challenge" and you can share your Denim Bar experience. Be as specific as you can in the type of jeans you're looking for.

Of course, it's possible that the journey to find your perfect jeans won't end in success the first few times. You might be looking at an Angie-type search for the perfect jean. PPP!

I've been looking for the "right" jeans for a very long time. I like a higher rise, and i'm afraid of veering into 'mom jeans'. I have no patience for trying on millions of jeans at a mallful of stores. So i went to a premium denim store, "Denim Bar", expecting some professional help with this.
-First of all, they "don't do boyfriend jeans." ...What? ok, let's try on a regular fitting (snug) pair. I tell her my size is 28, and she brings a pair to try on. "No. That's baggy," she says. REally, i always wear this size. maybe that's my problem, i think. She brings a 27. I've got to really suck it in to zip them, but i'm in. "That's better, but you could use a 26." ....! LIke a sheep, a try them on, and cant get them zipped up without a pair of pliers and a hard surface to lean on. "That's how they should fit."
...so i leave, with all my money still with me, and no jeans....
i guess i'm going to the mall.
Does anyone else remember when all it took was a pair of dark blue levi's and a hot bathtub to get the right fit?
