Because I too am in the “do something about these pearls” club. I had a simple necklace my grandmother had given me that was stolen in a weird apartment break-in years ago (where they took that, a ring that had been my mother’s, and all of my CDs except about half a dozen that I particularly disliked… it’s always cracked me up to imagine these thieves going “Kronos Quartet, NOPE”). My mom felt bad and got me new ones not quite as nice and I somehow messed up the clasp so it doesn’t work. I’m especially fond of the pendant treatment and can see how it would be fun to have the option of switching out an initial C with other options depending on mood, outfit and level of dressiness. They suit you so well!</p> <p>I have a couple of strings of pearls I inherited, but I’m not totally sure whether they are real or not. Pearls are not terribly in line with my usual vibe, so I struggle to style them. And my husband gave me a necklace many years ago that has wide set pearls interspersed with lengths of very fine cord that is gold-toned, so again, kinda hard for me to style. I like the idea of the C and the extra single pearl as options.<br /> I have some broken pearls as well that I need to get checked. Some were Neil’s grandmother’s (given to us by his widowed grandfather before he died in 2001, so they could go to family members who had daughters. That was us.) Some were from an elderly neighbour of my parents who my parents had helped, this couple had no children and no relatives in NZ as they were originally from England. Both sets were broken. I had them strung into necklaces for my girls who were 10 and 13 at the time. I think since then one string has broken again and there are spares. I think these are just pearl beads not real pearls but when I take them to a jeweller this time (over 20 years later!) I will check. We also have a little bit of other costume jewellery of Neil’s grandmother’s. It feels tricky to get my daughters interested in who it belonged to when it isn’t their taste.
