Greg, I still get "

This doesn't seem to be the page for an individual product." error from LLBean. For example this link
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/32709?feat=hprrtop
but I tried a couple of others as well.
Thank you for looking into this!

Daria, L.L.Bean is already supported. The collector was broken recently by changes they made to their website, but I fixed it this morning. Let me know if you have trouble collecting from there in future.

By the way, this page also has a list of all the supported stores on the right hand side.

I would suggest trying to collect Coach from one of the department stores that carries it. Failing that (say, if an item is exclusive to the Coach store) there is always the option of using a custom Find.

In adding stores I prioritize the ones that carry multiple brands. At some point we'll reach all the mono-brand stores too.

The same item from different retailers will show up as different items. This is what we want for purposes of comparison, so it is by design. We don't think of this as duplication or clutter. (At some point it would be nice to detect these situations and make comparisons easier though).

What (I think) Firecracker was referring to is the same item from the same retailer, but collected a second (or Nth) time using the bookmarklet.

Either way, the important point is that no-one should worry about duplication. Just collect away.

Greg, the same item from different retailers do show up as different entries. Is this the type of consolidating you're talking about, or only when it's from the same retailer but different links?

EDIT: Added two examples of what I mean from my own Finds.

Firecracker, not at all. When more than one person collects the same item they system knows that and does not duplicate the underlying product. So there is no need to check if something is already collected before using the bookmarklet to collect an item.

Thank you for thinking of it though.

Thanks for the clarification, Greg. I've taken to adding Finds when I buy things, and not bothering to look and see if someone else has already collected it. Does this practice clutter the Finds with a lot of duplicates? In other words, should I ideally be searching through the existing Finds to see if my new purchase is already there? (The reason I don't do it is that it seemed kind of cumbersome. But if it's better for the site overall, I'll do it.)

Greg, I've had to add two custom finds of items currently available from Target because the store did not label it correctly for the bookmarklet to add.
For instance, a backpack was labeled under luggage/backpack/adult backpack:
http://www.target.com/p/women-.....e+backpack
A brief collab they had with Fashion Union has that line in it's own category http://www.target.com/p/tie-wa.....hion+union
Is there a way to get around this, or is custom finds the way to go?

I see a few people creating custom finds for items that I think are available online. So I just want to emphasize that if an item is available online you should be able to collect it using the bookmarklet. There are some cases where we don't yet support certain stores, but we're up to more than 120 stores now so those are fewer than they were in the beginning.

Just to summarize the ways you can get items into your collection:

The heart icon: clicking the heart icon on a find that someone else already collected is by far the easiest way to collect it.

The bookmarklet: once you have installed the bookmarklet, this is also extremely easy.

Creating a custom find: here you create it from scratch entering the info yourself and uploading your own picture.

Number 3 is really a last resort and has a few disadvantages. Other people can't collect the item, and you won't get price alerts for it. That said, it is an important last resort for people who want to get their whole wardrobe online and who have older items or items they bought at a thrift store.

If you are having trouble getting the bookmarklet to work, please feel free to PM me for help.

Also, please continue to make requests for stores that aren't supported. I am adding new stores all the time.
