You are off to a great start. Try wearing belts over blouses instead of always tucking them in. I feel more casual but still polished doing this.
I know, I never thought I'd ever wear leggings either. Just keep the idea in mind. It allows you to get on the floor with the grandkids looking smart and feminine.

you ladies are awesome! I think i am going to start with the classic idea. I love the idea of a pencil shirt paired with a nice white blouse. I have always loved scarfs and belts, so now that i have a waistline i am going to look for a fabulous belt. It will be a new experience wearing blouses tucked in and jeans, hmmm.... joy, Leggings, ohhh..i really would have to be brave. i can just hear my grandaughter, she'd probably say "granny, you rock, girl!" I know, i hate that name too, but it makes them smile to call me that, so i just groan and go on.
Well, armed with all this advice, i am ready to go shopping. I'll let you know how I do!! bye for now.

Another quick post. Sunshine, be sure to try leggings under a dress. So comfortable and cute! For our age I like the look best with a dress rather than a skirt, but maybe I just haven't found the right skirt yet. You will find lots of photos of members in this look and Angie's blog about it. I think it's in this July's blog entries. Sorry I can't take the time to find it right now. It's a great way to use a dress that's too short otherwise.

This look is an example that you will need to try on EVERYTHING to see what now looks best on you.

Ack! I just lost a long post here. Sunshine, I'll just say that as a fellow member of the over-60 club who found this site after a weight loss due to health, you have come to the right place! Read the archives because there is so much!
You will have a real challenge finding age-appropriate clothing out there that fits in your new small size! For me, needing a casual but smart style, these are a few things that work well:
* Jeans: dark wash denim with no fading, black black, and white. I also have a much-worn pair of Ann Taylor grey jeans. Jean cut pants fit me best because they don't bag in the seat like other pants. Fitting and rise that's high enough are a challenge in small sizes.

*Woven button-down fitted shirts over tank tops or camisoles. These can be further dressed up with a belt, scarf, jewelry, waistcoat, cardigan, etc. These are easily found at consignment shops and even thrift shops. If you like this idea, be picky and buy excellent brands with interesting details that fit perfectly.

*Jean jacket in dark denim, white, etc. The jean style makes any outfit more informal. But don't wear blue denim with blue denim.

*Leather jacket, trench coat, comfortable flats or low heels that are cute, knee high boots

Welcome, Sunshine! I'm so sorry to hear that you have been ill. I hope you are on the mend now. Do you feel that you have more shopping options now after losing the weight? I imagine it can be a little overwhelming for you.

My mom is in her seventies and has worn Alfred Dunner for years until she recently lost some weight. She was stuck in a rut wearing pastels and elastic waist bands. When she lost weight, she started with Macy's and began branching out into some of their other departments. She's had good luck with Liz Clairborne and Jones New York. The last time she came to visit we found some nice things for her at Nordstrom's and Talbot's. That was a big change for her after years of wearing only Alfred Dunner.

50andstylish has made some excellent suggestions to get you started. Also, it helps, if you are brave enough, to post a picture.

There are a lot of women on the forum here who are over 50 (myself included) and even in their sixties. Joy is a wonderful example of a stylish YLF member in her sixties. With your new size you'll have so many more options available to you and you'll find great advice from the ladies on this forum.

How do you feel about classic looks like white shirts/black pencil skirts/pumps or the white shirt with classic black pants and a great scarf for a pop of color (Love Quote scarves are a little expensive but fabulous). I guess my idea would be the classic pieces with fun accessories which is pretty much what I hope to gradually acquire. I think I am better at saying what usual places to stay away from i.e. Coldwater Creek and Chiccos (there are some pieces at each of these stores that are nice but as a whole it seems like they tend towards frumpy) that many women over 50 shop at.

I am a 67 yr old great grandmother. I worked in the hospital field for 27 years before retiring a few years ago. i became ill last year and lost down to a size 4. i am working hard to regain my health and keep the weight off.
with the weight loss came a new way of thinking about myself. i wanted a whole new look. i was tired of dressing in Alfred Dunner. my question is what type of clothes should i be looking at and what about color and texture. i am a 5'1" white female. my hair is siliver gray and cut very short. the only thing i am sure about is my makeup. I think i do a good job with it. do you have any hints?
