Thanks ladies I agree with everyone's opinions. I think sturdier fabrics are what i'm going to have to keep to for pants/trousers. I also think that a hook closure or perhaps button closure would make silk pants more flattering. Finally, I think a wider leg would also help.
Glad I wasn't completely off in returning them

Great question, I am also curious about materials for trousers. I have found for myself, I need thicker fabrics so they don't hug every lump and bump on my thighs.

I think you'd get more structure with an actual waistband. I like silk pants but they do have to be substantial and I agree, they're not the easiest to wear!

I think if they were a sturdier fabric, they would work better for you. That flimsy silk is NOT good for bottoms!

OMG those pants remind me of the nylon jogging suits of the 80s. This is not a good thing.

I agree that the elasticized waistband is a really tough style to wear. I find the drawstring version a bit easier since you can adjust where they sit but they can still be a challenge. Perhaps a similar style with a flat waistband would be a better look.

Lauren, I think that you just need to try a different style and fabrication on these type of pants. I am thinking that a sturdier fabric than pure silk will make the biggest difference. Pure, unlined silk can show every bit of what is going on underneath! To your point there are a lot of curvy, soft lines happening with you here. I'd try a pointed closed toe shoe (sandals will be great in season), and keep the top of the outfit a bit more crisp and somewhat structured. The really soft, clingy knit top you are wearing isn't working well with the pants. Also maybe try a top with some drape or blouse with a curved hem that comes lower over the crotch area.

I love silk pants but I prefer a heavy guage silk. Those J crew pants look really thin. I am also not a huge fan of the elastic waist or draw strings (thou I do have some). I think the elastic waist is harder to style. I have a poisen eye for the elastic band exposed so I either wear a top over the waist band or add a belt that sits on top. I also think a regular waist band gives more structure. I don't have any suggestions on brands though. Hopefully someone else will.

Silk pants are, for some reason, all the rage right now. They were on the runways and every brand has their own version. I wanted to try out this trend for myself to see if it was something I could get behind, or something that just wouldn't work for my particular body type. I went with J.Crew because the price point as compared to other silk pants was much lower, and they come in a wider range of sizes (full review here: http://bit.ly/132a7D4)

Have any of you tried the silk pant trend? Is there another brand I should try? I was thinking patterned pants might work better... Would love everyone's thoughts!
