Joy- meant to give you a shoutout on the bone; I recognized it as your color! This was the most usable piece for me, but I'd like to keep an eye ouf for some others.
AT may not be your taste, but they have a grouping in a stone color that is also a grayed white, slightly more stone than bone, not quite as cool, but still pale ! However the EF pieces you wore look a better color for you- great finds.

Lucky you to find that bone EF top at a good sale price. I have been collecting what EF pieces I can find on sale and an SA told me that this color returns every year.

Thanks, missvee! I liked the weight and quality very much.
Thanks for your endorsement, Angie. That is encouraging.
Last summer I found that this Talbots olive linen sweater was a wardrobe workhorse. It almost goes with too many things! So it proved to be a great medium-toned nearly neutral.

What both of these have in common is the somewhat weighty knit, so in the category of upscale knitwear.
They both have straight bottoms, which I have to kinda watch as can read frumpy and ordinary/casual. If they were just in a cotton knit, they would look too casual. Also even EF thin linen knits can read that way, as more for casual wear.

I like your reasoning. Not every top is going to work with every bottom, and that's okay. I'm sure you'll get plenty of use out of this one. EF knits are such good quality.

Thanks, Angie for the discussion of those essentials.

Though light neutrals are only JFE on me, they do have some of that "essential" quality in being so versatile with other colors--pop on and go. Angie's white pullovers brought that to mind.

I came across this EF knit top in a heavy silk blend knit--very good fabric--in "bone" which comes across very similar to pearl gray or oyster white and all those slightly greyed whites, and at a (small) sale price.

It goes with just about all my pants and changes dark pants to a more summery vibe--necklace or scarf can be added.

The one dilemma I had is that in my best EF size, its proportions are best for pants and is a bit long for pencil skirts; I tried petite sizing also and it did not get me to the right place, as the roomy-enough size wasn't really shorter.
However, I have the BR boxy top in a similar color, and it is for skirts more than for pants, so I think I will go with the EF version for pants since realistically, in air-conditioning I spend more time in pants even in the summer, and also footwear for pants usually is less problematic as well.
