That would make me a little upset, too.

I had something similar happen with a jacket I'd bought at Anthropologie - it was deeply on clearance but was from a reputable brand. When I got the jacket, one of the seams was totally un-sewed under the armpit. I emailed customer service and received a prompt response saying that although the jacket was no longer in stock in the size I'd requested, I could either return it or they would give me a discount on top of the original sale price. I happily accepted the latter option. To me, that was a perfect way to deal with the situation. If the item wasn't so deeply discounted to begin with, though, I'd probably have returned it.

Irked right along with you. It takes enough time to shop - it's not like we all have lots of free time to deal with shipping/returns/reordering due to quality issues. You expect your clothing to hold up through a simple washing.

Argh! I have done repairs like this one myself just to keep from having to drag out the inner turmoil and be able to cross it off my list. But Jem is right, you shouldn't have to deal with it or pay to have another shipped. It would be nice if they offered to do a little extra for you, like send out a turtle neck in a third color, gratis, because you fixed it yourself.

I can see why you would be upset! I would think that they could send you a replacement one with free s/h. I would call back and ask for a manager to see if they can do more for you. I know Talbot's is not inexpensive, so you shouldn't have to repair it yourself, although it may be worth avoiding the inconvenience of sending it back. Good luck getting it resolved!

I bought a turtleneck from Talbots last week - it's "charming turtleneck" in pima cotton - I bought a fuchsia colored one on sale after Thanksgiving and like it so much that I went to the store after New Year's and bought another one in crimson. I washed it (without even wearing) and line-dried - as I was ironing it, I noticed that the knit that was part of the neck seam was unraveling... The seams are well-made and have a double layer of fabric, with the defective part on the inside, so I could simply repair it to prevent further unraveling. However, I am irked that I spent time shlepping to the store because I like their quality and this is what I got... I contacted customer service and they offered me a return label for free shipping back. Not sure that this really helps since the store is out of my size and color, although I can still reorder online (and pay shipping).
