Just an update - I actually got the item I wanted (husband's birthday gift), and furthermore, it's being shipped in a much faster fashion than I expected! Norstrom is quickly becoming the "Amazon" of department stores (ie. reliable when it comes to shipping, and shipping fairly quickly, PLUS good communication in terms of when it shipped, tracking numbers and so on).

I was prepared to pay extra for faster shipping to get the item sooner, but during the checkout process, it said the item would be delivered "on or before (next Wednesday)." Thing is? It's scheduled to arrive on Monday, gift boxed and wrapped. YAY!

I still find it annoying that things disappear on me and then reappear - but luckily, I did manage to pounce on the item (when it reappeared after disappearing two or three times) and get it ordered - and the service was flawless. Very well done!

When it's important, and I want it fast - I usually shop Amazon. But Nordstrom had something I really wanted to buy for my husband's upcoming birthday, and while I appreciate their 'free shipping', I know that the time-frame for shipping can be quite variable when it comes to dept. stores. Nordstrom has shown me that they are as good or better than Amazon when it comes to fast, efficient service. This (to me) is *wonderful*, because I like looking through stuff on Nordstrom's site a lot more than other sites - they do a great job on photos, descriptions and so on.

Anyway - although I was whining about disappearing products, I'm very happy that I managed to get the item after all, and that I'm getting it in record time, beautifully boxed and gift wrapped. So pleased!

Again, apolgies for being surreptitious - just that my husband will sometimes look at what I'm reading on YLF (not often, just occasionally wanders over to see what I'm reading)...so I didn't want to spill the beans, re: what the actual gift item is.

I will order more gifts from Nordstrom now that I know that when it's 'crunch time', the service is there.

Yeah, I put *Rae's* galaxy booties on my wish list and they were U/A by morning. But the fabric would not have stretched so they probably wouldn't have fit anyway. But I will keep checking back.

I didn't end up having to phone because the mystery jumping "item" (I'm being surreptitious here on purpose, sometimes my husband looks over at my computer to see what I'm reading on YLF) magically reappeared in my shopping cart this morning.

Once I see that my order has actually shipped, then I'll know for sure the item got sent. If it 'disappears' on me again - if I get an email or notification that the item is no longer available, I have a backup plan (alternate, but not as 'good' item) via Amazon.

In the end - I suppose this means BBQ when you see something you want.

Yes, I totally forgot that we are coat twins! I've been wearing it all fall & most of winter.

I will keep my fingers crossed that the item is found.

Thank you Kari - I think I might try phoning them tomorrow. It's worth a try

I should know better, since this happened to me once before - when Talbot's was having a tough time keeping up with their Black Friday sales awhile back. By calling an actual store (your advice too I think!), and talking to an SA, I was able to get the item I wanted after all (the blue/teal tweed coat, which I think you have as well).

I'll phone Nordstrom in the morning, and see if that works.

Perhaps I shouldn't just take "no" for an answer ...:)

VC: Try calling. I learned one time, when that happened, that it meant it was out of stock in the warehouse and very low in stock in stores and might be tricky to track down. When I called, Customer Service was able to actually track down the item I needed in the store, and then reserve it to make sure that it was mailed out to me.

Does it drive anyone else just a wee bit nuts when you put something on your wish list and then find it "unavailable" the very next morning? I went to place an order first thing this morning, including an item I wanted for my husband's upcoming birthday...but the gift item was all of a sudden unavailable, less than 12 hours after I'd placed it on my wish list.

Later this afternoon, it was available again (yay!). I immediately rushed to put it into my shopping cart, plus several other items from my Nordstrom wish list. I also added a bunch of stuff that I might normally have ordered from Sephora or Amazon etc., since I was placing an order anyway, and might as well get it all done at once...

Got interrupted by a phone call before I could place my order. Then it was dinner. After dinner, I went to complete my order and check out.

The gift item is gone - shopping cart says it's "unavailable" again. So now I'm backing out of my whole order.

Am I the only one who finds this somewhat frustrating? I expect this sort of thing with one of those flash sale sites or discount sites, but I'm kind of annoyed that it happens with a regular department store.

Is it just me, or does this happen to anyone else?
