What a sweet story Anne! Your DD's hair looks adorable, you are quite talented. Mine used to be the same color when I was a child, I wish it stayed that way.

Her hair looks adorable! You did a great job - if it were me dealing with the lice, I'd have been tempted to shave it right off. :-)

Reassure dad - if he continues to be upset - that it will grow right back.

My two girls both sported short cuts like this for years and years, for similar reason - I didn't want to spend our mornings arguing and listening to them cry, while combing out their tangled locks.

Now that they are teens, both have long hair. It's grown over the years as they became more and more responsible for their own grooming and hair care. DD14's was nearly as long as her waist recently, until she'd had enough and had a good cut (still longer than shoulder length).

As for appearances, tell your hubby that blondes tend to get a lot of attention anyway, no matter how long or short their hair.

My DD14's hair is platinum blonde (like Angie's). Even when her hair was chin-length, she would (and still does) constantly have strangers complementing her and saying things like "I wish I had hair that color" and "you're so lucky it's naturally that color." At the hairdressers, she's overheard people say, "I want THAT color hair - can you match it?"

Over time, it has really gone to DD14's head!!! She's a complete snob about her hair. Hee hee. But, I do think it is one of the reasons she's grown up to be so confident about herself.

What a wonderful story! When a child is beautiful, their hair does not make or break them. I also think you did a good job, Anne. Your daughter’s haircut is really cute. You have a hidden talent!

Dad misses his baby girls long locks. That’s okay. He’s allowed to miss them. Some blokes love long hair and hubby is such a bloke

What a beautiful little girl. Her shiney blonde baby hair is just like gold. You did an adorable job on the haircut, really cute.
I actually was impressed with your husbands insight into how looks and treatment of others can be closely related.

That's a cute story Anne. I am so impressed by the job you and your husband have done - many ladies would kill to have hair that looks like that! She looks so sweet and playful!!

About 2 weeks ago I radically cut my daughter's hair. She is five and has thick blond hair. She had been asking for a short cut for a while which I was keen on, but asked her to wait until after her ballet concert.
We have been battling nits and lice for weeks which involves lots of finetooth combing. She and I found this a real pain and one morning in the middle of it I just snapped, said " shall I cut your hair right now?". She agree and we headed off to the backyard with the scissors.
Here is the result
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....c08127.jpg (DH tidied it up a bit for me)

The funny think is that my husband was quite worried. He told me earnestly that people judge you on your appearance, they shouldn't but they do (!) and he thought she didn't look as nice as with long hair and people mightn't be as nice to her!
She is a very pretty girl - I am not just saying that because I am her Mum - I don't think about it much because I am used to her but people tell us all the time "just like a doll" etc, and I said that I disagreed that it looked bad but even so it wouldn't hurt her for a few months.

The funny thing is in the time since the haircut she has got so many positive comments about how good it looks! I have to teach her to say "thank you " instead of "I know" to compliments about it!
So I think DH is coming around to it, though he still prefers it long. What is it with men and long hair? I have been growing mine, because he prefers it long ( not that he makes me or anything, don't get me wrong) but I am not keen on it at the moment and am undecided about what to do.
