Thanks everyone, I will try it unbuttoned and sleeves scrunched too.

I went back and forth on the shirt with the crinkling. It is vertical crinkle/micro pleats all over it, so I didn't think in the end it looked too dated. The ground is a cherry red, and it has embroidered crewelwork flowers in gold and brown. In the end I thought it was worth risking 4.99 over :)

Gaylene - Good tip, I always test my outfits for movement, as I often have to move things or shift boxes or crawl under stuff during the day! I usually have taught only in nice jeans and a top, so I am trying to jazz up my style a little because I worry that being too casual doesn't help in gaining student respect (I have often in the 8 years I have worked here been mistaken for a grad TA or a student).

I love the shoes too, I think they will be good workhorses for me. They have a hidden 1" heel which makes them a bit different from the standard ballet flat.

Yes, perfect outfit...you should feel good about this one.

First, the stripes are on trend due to the recent affinity for peppiness in fashion. Second, the patter on the top is very subtle, so this is a good way to mix patterns in a mature, subtle way...

Also, you look killer in this silhouette, the skinny bottoms, jacket and ballet flats.

AND, lastly, the shoes really make the outfit with their pop of metallic. I'd be impressed if you were my undergrad teacher!

ETA, agree with other that the "crinkle" aspect of the blouse may be a bit dated, but I think it looks fine under the jacket. Would like to see the jacket open.

I have a very similar blazer that I don't wear much, so am appreciating your inspiration.

You'd look like a very stylish instructor.

And just a quick tip. I'd always do a couple of quick bends and lifts when checking out a teaching outfit. If nothing creeps up and everything settles back nicely, you know you've got a winner. I can remember seeing more than one sales assistant look at me a bit strangely until I explained why I was performing these maneuvers in the dressing room...

That FAB blazer has been an orphan? It plays nicely with the color red and the shoes bookend it well. Do you like to scrunch blazer sleeves?

Since the pic is a little blurry, I can't see the details of the red blouse. Your description says it's crinkled embroidered and that you thrifted it. My only concern is that the blouse might be dated. Thrift stores usually carry lots of button down options. Maybe look for one from Gap, Banana Republic, Express, etc.

First off, I absolutely love your shoes! You have them in snakeskin too? Perfect neutral!

I think your outfit would work well in a teaching environment. I like the angled pockets on that striped jacket...very flattering. It's hard to tell the pattern in the red blouse, but I think you've matched colors and patterns very well!

Went thrifting and to Winners today as a last hurrah before going on SYC for the next while and found a bunch of stuff that will work its way into WIW photos.

Here's an outfit I came up with while going through my closet. The blazer has been an orphan, but I decided to give it a spin.

Pattern mixing is scary to me, I hope I pulled it off ok. Do you think this is an ok outfit to teach a first year university anthro class? I don't want to look too staid, on the other hand I don't want to be an object of ridicule!

I apologise for the blurry photos, my tripod was target for the cats to rub themselves all around on it.

Knit Blazer: Rickis
Crinkle embroidered top: Fred David, thrifted
Pants: Gap really skinny or always skinny or whatever they are called
Shoes: Tahari Carly (Winners score, so comfy, I also bought a pair in python print)
