Amiable, thanks for the moto comment. I love it, too! :)

CocoLion, the watch looks very nice but the band is actually rubber (but I don't mind it for everyday use). It is from the Michele Jelly Bean collection, almost identical to this one (only difference is mine is all gold, not two toned like this one): http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mi.....sultback=0

Still, a watch regularly priced at $350 on sale for $145 was a great deal, I had to snatch it up! I wish I could come sit at one of your tables and chat about the watch, I love it that much too :)

Krishnidoux, you offer good insight, too. I didn't realize I was hiding behind my scarf, but I probably was/am. I am not 100% comfortable at this weight but am trying to accept and dress the body I'm in. But hiding behind a scarf is not the way to do it. Thanks for setting me straight, a little tough love is what we need now and again!

I hear you on the structure of the jacket, maybe that is what is throwing me off with this piece. I will have to play with it more, that was the first time I wore it.

And about the boots and chambray shirt, you are probably right on that one, too (I should listen to you more often, haha). I can try it with black boots and I have my eye on some lighter boots to bookend my hair anyway. But they have a slight western slant to them (Frye Carmen harness short in tan waxed suede -
http://www.zappos.com/frye-car.....axed-suede )
so they might not work so great with this outfit if de-country-izing it is the goal (what a word I just made up).

Thanks again for the comments and input!

abc, you did a great job! These look good! And congrats on your fab fab watch.

My initial reaction was the same as MaryK. I thought, Why are you hiding behind your scarf? Making it shorter would create a different silhouette you might want to explore. The only outfit where I actually like the scarf like that is 1 ! Have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LYAEz777AU

And I actually digged 1 but I may be byist because I so love cuffs showing (as opposed to Angie, I know!). I really like the colour combination here, it goes so well with your hair. One tweak: maybe a sturdier jacket would look better... although if you are mostly a WAHM (Work At Home Mom) I understand why a softer piece would be more useful at this point.

And your green moto, how you have styled it, is really cute. I think it's a direction you should explore.

Also, I thing the chambray/white pants is a classic that you wear very well. It doesn't look too casual. Have you tried it with pearls? I would go for smaller ones if you do. But I think you feel too casual because of the boots. I agree, the colour with the white makes it more everyday. Have you tried it with black boots/booties? I know this sounds anti-fashion, but actually can look quite stylish. Or taupe, lighter than what you have. It is worthwhile investing in lighter booties, because you will find they work with many things and give a complete different feel to outfits.

Well played!

I LOVE you in that green jacket. And the white pants are super fab!

I can't believe you got a Michele watch for just $145. I'm extremely jealous. If you came and ate at one of my tables I would have to stop and have a conversation about that watch. I drool over them at the Costco jewelry counter whenever I pass by ... they're more like $1000.

MaryK, I think you nailed it. I am a lazy scarf tyer, and sometimes can't stand bulk around my (non-existent) neck. I will take a look at your pinterest page for inspiration, and thanks for the pics you attached. Visuals help a LOT!

L'Abeille, misery loves company! LOL! I will try a new way of tying the scarf, pronto!

saramir, thanks for the boost. I didn't feel so fab in all of the pics but am working on it. Hopefully things can only get better!

Kristin, breaking the black pants rut is a hard thing to do, but I am trying. Thanks for the props on the green moto. I love that jacket!

Suz, I am having a mini-epiphany right now thanks to you. I DO love color (and am glad to hear you think it loves me back!). I have seen many tonal looks on YLF and always love them on other people, but they somehow don't feel right on me. I guess it is because I like a higher contrast outfit - with lots of color, apparently! Thanks for leading me to this, "A-ha" moment!

The other funny thing is #1 looks like a cardi but it really IS a jacket. But...it is knit construction and the inside is lined but the sleeves are not, I think it comes off less structured because of this. I am going to have to try this jacket with something else underneath...hmmm..

Now...the green moto....I am still in love with it and so glad I bought it! Glad some of you joined me in feeling the love! :)

Thanks for all of the feedback!!!

You love colour! And colour loves you!

No wonder you got compliments on that fun moto. It looks great with the leopard print and will also look fab with your white denim and your jeans. Oh...and with the denim shirt, too.

I think you probably felt unfab in #1 because you were wearing a cardigan (which can feel frumpy easily). A jacket gives more structure and presence -- as you discovered the very next day!

Travel capsules are TOUGH. I think you did great breaking out of the all black pants shell.

You look great. I really like the green jacket as well. I agree with Maryk. Try a few other ways to tie your scarf and that can do wonders.

I don't think it's bad to still have black pants in the line up. I think only wearing them for half of the outfits like you did is a great start to breaking the rut you were in.

Haha I know this is not helping but pic #1 is exactly me for most of last winter. Only my pants are still black.

All I can suggest is to use the "loop" -that scarf looks long enough. Fold scarf in half and pull ends through the loop.

I love your outfits, especially the green jacket! I love the colors and the white watch is fab!

To my eye, the way you have tied your scarf (love the scarf) looks dated! I'd suggest trying one of the more modern ways. I have a whole pinterest board with scarf looks here: http://pinterest.com/mrskpasadena/scarves/ if you want to take a look.

The easiest way is to just wrap the scarf around your neck once with the center in front, cross the ends at the back of your neck, and let the ends hang down on the sides in front, like pic 1. Or you can do it bandana style like pic 2-- just fold a square scarf in half into a triangle and tie it together at the back of your neck!.

I had to travel for work last week, making it the first time since April 2012 that I was in an office setting (I changed jobs in Apr 2012 and now work from home). In the meantime I had baby #2, also (Oct 2012).

So this was my first outing wearing business casual in quite a while. Since I was unfamiliar with the client's dress code, other than knowing it was "business casual" I erred on the conservative side and went with dress pants - but not the usual lazy back formula of black pants + any random top, thanks to my YLF education. :)

This time I *tried* to be more creative, but this stuff is hard! YLF inspires me to dress better, but I feel like I pretty much failed on at least 2/4 outfits last week.

I recently bought a lot of pants, but none in the dressier category. I was sorely lacking WFH and MOTG bottoms after baby 2, so I focused on buying leggings, jeans, etc. So that meant I was wearing pants I bought post baby 1 which now seem to be a size too big (nice problem to have, I guess). Long story but post baby 1 I had a freak out session and bought a lot of dress clothes since that was my work wardrobe at the time. Now it rarely gets used since I WFH, but on occasion I will need to fall back on this capsule (like last week).

Anyway, I will stop rambling. I am not very happy with the results of last week's outfits. I have a lot of hope that I can do WAY better once I get back into WFH / MOTG mode this week.

A lesson learned that I should spend even more time preparing to pack. I used to live out of a suitcase so spending time packing is a foreign task to me, but something I will have to suck it up and do if I want to look better next time.

On to the outfits...

Pic 1
11 Feb: Eloquii charcoal pants, Lands End no iron white button down, Eloquii red jacket, Target scarf.
This outfit looks really stuffy to me, even with the scarf to add some color. Help me diagnose why? Is it the white shirt? I tried other tops but they did not "go" with the pants very well.
Oh and I did adjust the rolled up sleeves after I took the pic, I think that helped marginally. Still a fail in my book.

Pics 2-3
12 Feb: My fave of the week. Foxcroft animal print shirt (Nordstrom), Bernardo green moto (Nordstrom), grayish green color pants part of a suit (Calvin Klein, Macys)
This one is not too bad. I *LOVE* the green moto and got compliments all day :)

Pics 4-5
13 Feb: Sejour split neck chambray shirt (Nordstrom), NYDJ white straight leg jeans (Rack), Target scarf again, Harley Davidson boots (who knew? bought in Mexican dept store Liverpool)
This one is ok, but I felt kind of like the country version of myself, perhaps bc of the top and boots together? I have not worn a denim top in YEARS. I like this, it just needs to grow on me. Need to find new ways of tying scarves but that still give a good vertical visual line.

Funny part of this is that I brought along a black sheath and animal print cardi to go over the top with a red belt and purse, but it was rainy/cold so I deferred to some newly purchased items to put together an alternative outfit for the day. So glad I did, I was comfy all day.

Pic 6
14 Feb: Jag pull on jeans (Nordstrom), Caslon long sleeve tshirt (Nordstrom last year), HD boots again, scarf from Mexican dept store Liverpool (made in Italy for what its worth)
Not bad, I guess, but not fab, either. First time wearing the jeans and super comfy. Haven't worn boot cuts in a while, felt good for a change.

Pic 7
Bonus pic: new Michele watch, scored at Rack last week. Tag $345, now $145. Yay! First new watch in probably 10 years.

Sorry for the bad hotel mirror pics, that was the only mirror in the entire room! And haha on the boxes you can see in the background, they're from my online orders (taking advantage of being in the USA!)

Thanks for looking and any feedback on my questions is greatly appreciated (why pic 1 looks stuffy and how to tie a scarf other than the way I showed, but still give a visually enlongating line)
