Thanks for your input, Angie. I have actually been trying to incorporate more light-colored shoes into my wardrobe. With dark hair, dark shoes are easier to find balance with. But with a black top I always go back to dark shoes.

smittie -- thinking about your comment on structure. It interests me because it's outside of my comfort zone, and I'm not sure how to do it. Though you can't see it in the picture there's a belt adding bulk -- a belt is mandatory with these jeans. I tend to default to more fluid layers so that I can semi-tuck my top, because I hate feeling the belt buckle touch my skin, but don't think I look best with shirts tucked in: I am long from waist to crotch. Conceivably I could solve the first problem with a layering tank, but I'm not sure how a more fitted sweater would play with the lumpy belt. Something to think about. I have JCrew Tippi sweaters I could try.

As for #1 it's different, but I know I need to expand my horizons. A comfort zone to fall back on is great, but I don't want to be trapped there. That's why I'm here!

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on your outfits.
I really like #3. The skirt is perfect on you. I like how you've tied the scarf. I think it's ok to let a scarf be the thing that makes an outfit interesting.

Love the jeans in #4 but can you add some structure on top? Maybe a sweater instead of something that opens on the front?

I love #1 but it sounds like it's not 'you'.
Also love #2. Bright yellow always makes my day.

I like the way #3 works up top because the shoes bookend the sweater.

I like #1 best of all. Nice pant lengths.

Thanks, y'all. After some thought ... I think I have trouble with olive because I am hesitant to treat it as a neutral, but treating it as a color doesn't typically yield very interesting combos.

I did try again with the olive skirt today -- ended up going with lavender on top. I do think it's better. But for some reason I could not get a shot with my eyes open this morning!

I like them all. I can't believe you have trouble with olive. That's one of my favorite colors. Before I went grey I wore it with plum, pumpkin, dark red, navy. It looks great with cognac accessories. Now I would wear it with grey.

Yes, it's relaxed like pyjamas. I think it also plays well against your features somehow. The boyish slouchy charm juxtaposed to the strong angles of your face and the feminine curl of your hair. I certainly understand the appeal of jeans that feel right. It is so hard to find them and when we do, they become favourites.

Suz, I find this question surprisingly hard to answer! Usually I feel best in fuller skirts. But these jeans are the most comfortable I have ever owned, and actually achieve that slouchy boyfriend look I see in my mind's eye, but is kind of hard to pull off when you have curves.

Another thought: years ago, my husband commented that I wear all clothes like pyjamas. This outfit definitely has that aspect to it -- easy and lived-in-looking.

Sally -- I started with the scarf in a loop and then thought -- nah, I aways do that! But I think it's better in the end. I am thinking about twisting it somehow to play with the stripes for next wearing ... might not work in real life the way it does in my head, though.

Good thought on the olive skirt -- maybe next I can try with the white tank I wore with the white skirt, and a bright cardigan, maybe pink or orange -- I'll have to see which of my cardigans work proportionally, as a lot of them are shorter and/or very fitted and I'm not loving them so much at the moment.

I like all the looks.I have some ideas but you can ignore - I am no expert!

I have the same pants as you in 1 - they are super versatile!! They look great here.

I like the two skirts - I think the olive would work well with a brighter or lighter colour - I love the new scarf and it does liven up the look but I think I would prefer it worn as a loop with the skirt? I love the colour combo of the yellow and white - I struggle with white as well....but I think in a casual skirt like this it looks very fresh.

I love 4 on you - casual slouchy cool.

I really like your thought process here. Interestingly, I like your last outfit best on you as well. Why do you suppose it felt the best to you? What are the elements of the look or feel of those clothes that speak most to you?

I made an effort to pull out a few things I hadn't worn in a while this week. Not sure it was 100 percent successful, but this is something I need to keep investing effort in. I'm also pondering how to track any progress I make on the personal style front, which for me is not going to be an overnight process. I think reading posts here at YLF, I am slowly absorbing knowledge and inspiration. The next step is some kind of personal tracking. I do have one thought on this, and I'll post more if I get it to bear fruit!

1. Lululemon Jet Crops. I struggle with pants that are not jeans, but I do like these. They look best when standing -- sitting, they pull tight on my thighs and start looking less like work-wear. The back rise could be a tad longer too ... but that's the story of my life.

Wearing them here with a t-shirt I made, a Lulu jacket, and Frye Carson ballet flats.

2. White skirt. I am one of those people who does not feel entirely comfortable in pure white, especially on the bottom. As others have pointed out, this is probably aligned with RATE tendencies. But, this skirt is linen, and thus perpetually wrinkled, which is oddly redeeming according to my aesthetic. That said, my husband made me stand in front of a window for a transparency check (the skirt is lined) and while he grudgingly gave it a pass, it was clear he didn't feel entirely comfortable with it!

Wearing with a favorite thrifted cardigan and a white layering tank, and some Rocket Dog espadrilles with a tiny gray pinstripe that also don't see enough wear.

3. Olive skirt, and new scarf -- gift from a friend. I don't really like how I styled it here but will keep trying -- I love the scarf! The olive skirt hasn't been worn in a while. It's linen, the same as the white one (and like several others I have -- I picked them up on eBay for a song a few years ago after buying one and wearing it to death). But I have trouble finding good pairings with olive for some reason. Seems like it shouldn't be so hard!

Wearing here with often worn black tank top and hoodie, and Simple mary janes. Kind of a yawn without the scarf.

4. Nothing new here -- favorite jeans, rayon t-shirt, and often-worn merino hoodie. With some Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 sneakers. And honestly, this was the outfit that I felt best in this week!
