It is really meaningful and helpful to know how I dress comes across to people who haven't known me all my life.  Especially since I've been on a style reinvention for about a year, so this is new ground. Thanks so much, everyone! I forgot I was going to add some finds, so I'll do that now, just in case anyone's interested. Firecracker, I found the skirt (Calvin Klein) on clearance at Macy's while on vacation last summer. It has slowly become a significant part of my wardrobe. :) shevia and Firecracker, it's funny you should say that; I did study tap and ballet for 12 years, though it's never been a profession. My feet naturally end up in those positions, I guess! Maneera, you are so kind! Skater skirts fit me well, but because of my rise and height they really ARE skater skirts - just really too short for comfort, even with leggings. And they add width to my hips. I'm very pleased with this length, though, which was in regular Misses. I have a black one as well. And I'm glad you're inspired to wear dresses for winter! Depending on the dress, I can layer a LOT of things and still feel cute and feminine. ;) rachylou, the top is actually an icy blue; the color was a little weird in that light. I wore it to a Christmas brunch last year with shiny snowflake jewelry - I felt so pretty! Karie, thanks for the full-tuck vote! That dress almost didn't happen years ago because it needed a cami, but it's turned into a real workhorse. Aquamarine, you're sweet! I love how the mid-calfs feel, so I'm glad you like the outfit, too. Aliona, that means a lot to me. If you can define my signature style, what words would you use? I think you're right - I know pretty well what I want to wear and how - but I've never been able to describe it. Alassë, thank you! I'm REALLY loving the prevalence of navy these last few years, and then the burgundy/maroon and forest green this fall. And then I'm a matchy-matchy queen at heart, so prints like this blouse that tie in colors are just YUM. always trying, thanks! Can I ask what you don't prefer about #1? Since you made the distinction, I'm really curious. :D smittie, yay, more full tuck love! I was kind of amazed at how well the skirt/leggings/sneakers came together. It was SUPER comfortable, too, which is great for lots of singing and handbell playing and hauling around equipment. I can't believe that white skirt is faux leather--it drapes like a weighty silk. Gorgeous! And I it's beautiful with the lavender drapey top and new golden pumps. The skirt and leggings outfit is fab both ways. Your semi-tuck looks just right, even if it wasn't your cup of tea to wear. It always looks that way in the back (at least when I do it); you gotta just make peace with the folds of shirttail hanging there. I think it's flattering and adds interest to many a look. The dress is really pretty on you, too--a more retro-inspired look, yet very current with the mid-calf boots. Your smile is contagious! Oh, and I agree with Shevia. Here we go! #1 : Church a week ago last Sunday. The full-length pictures were from a terrible angle, but this at least shows my one success with a cropped sweater. I even sized down! I could live with this cropped trend - it's perfect for me. #2-4 : Church this past Sunday. This is a fake poncho-like item; it's sewn together at the lower sides, and the back has a yoke. But I love the color, especially with white. The skirt is faux leather. #5 : Shoes! The HEWI that dropped into my lap last month: low heel pointy-toe pumps in a nude-for-me color. I'm still breaking in the leather a little, but I am very pleased with them. #6-9 : First version of this outfit, which I wore on Tuesday. Simply Vera blouse, forest green skirt, ponte leggings, and navy suede booties. I did a half tuck, but it felt very awkward all day; the blouse is very long and straight, so it really couldn't both tuck and drape over my hips. #10-12 : I still loved the blouse and skirt colors together. I also just had to change something, because it was awkward, and by now I was pretty warm in the long leggings. So I switched for cropped leggings with zips and shiny blue/black sneakers. And while re-situating with the leggings, I fully tucked the blouse - and loved it. I have no idea how current it is, but I did get a compliment at choir practice that night. #13-15 : A FFBO: dress layered over tee/tights, weight depending on temperature. It was supposed to rain today, though it wasn't cold, so I wore a long tee, black tights, and black Ecco boots lined with gore-tex.  I guess these are mid-calf boots. Hair's pretty crazy because I set it yesterday and the humidity is high.
