You've gotten many good ideas. My favorite outfit was the belted white shirt, although the pants look too big. You could add your vest or a scarf or necklace to this look. Thank you for the inspiration to try something new.

I haven't read all the comment yet but just wanted to add that I think dark reddish colours look fantastic on you! (and you son is very cute).

Would you consider adding some more and brighter colours in general? Ofcourse, I don't really know what you wear otherwise, but that was my first thought when I saw the pictures :).

Thanks again everyone. I'm glad I'm on the right track. Here's my summary:

-Wear belts, wear scarves
-Go for more fitted bottoms. This is a midset problem, mostly, I think. I've probably mentioned loosing a bunch of weight before, and it's hard to get used to dressing your new body & not your old.
-I need to show you guys a pencil skirt, and my waistcoat in an outfit where it has more contrast, I think.
-This wasn't mentioned, but I'd like to get more statement type necklaces to bring color up to my face. I know I look better in brighter colors than in black, but black is safe, kwim?

Angie - as far as the specs go, I'm an accountant & do taxes on the side. It's coming up to my busy season, and I have a big file I'm working on that I plan to buy new specs once I get paid for it. A month, I hope. (fingers crossed). Seeing Patience, Sarah, etc getting new specs has made me more anxious to get on it.

A great effort, Christine. Thanks for the pics. Love your little tag along

I’m with the gals on everything that’s been said but would like to reiterate that you are definitely on the right track. A little fine tuning here and there, and you’ll look wicked in no time. I’d also like to encourage a proper belt with the boyfriend cardi as opposed to a self fabric one. It’s less “robe-like”.

Now, we have to get you into another pair of specs asap. How is the budget looking for that?

Christine -

I agree. Posting pictures (or even just taking them for your eyes only) makes such a difference in perspective. I have found it incredibly helpful.

Conceptually, I like the outfits you've got together. It's the fit of things that's throwing things off a bit. Does that make sense? I agree with Inge that the slacks seem a bit big. Once you've gotten new jeans with a better fit (as suggested by others), the jeans outfits will come together nicely. I agree that the belted look is a good one for you. Have you thought about belting the sweater you wore with the plain skirt? And maybe, in lieu of the long sleeve shirt underneath, you could put the demin jacket over? Belting might help address that the top is a smidge too long for skirts.

By the way, you remind me so much of one of my great aunts. She looked a lot like you in her youth. It's uncanny really.

I really admire you for trying new things Christine! In fact, I'm going to let myself be inspired by you, because I'm in a bit of a clothing rut at the moment.

You're right about the jeans, they are a little tapered and that's not the most flattering look on anybody. I was going to suggest dark-wash boot cut jeans, but I see you are one step ahead of me;-)

The blue in that patterned shirt is flattering on you though.
I think the denim blazer has potential. Since you look amazing in belts: have you tried belting it and wearing it with an A-line or pencil skirt (or some lighter coloured trousers)?

I like the white & green shirt with the double wrap belt very much (especially with the contrast of your red lipstick). I'm going to repeat myself here: I love you in belts! The trousers seem a tad on the big side?

My favourite outfit is the one with the grey sweater and that funky scarf!! (Go get more scarfs, now!!) And you can tell you love it too!-)
(do repeat this look with your new boot cut jeans)

The picture is a bit blurry, but the patterned blouse with the vest are lovely too (you should definitely explore this look further as well).

I think the plain skirt looks a bit big, the plaid one in the next picture seems a better fit.

I quite like the idea of a boyfriend cardigan and tee on you (maybe try a graphic tee next?). I dont even mind the crewneck really (although a somewhat lower neckline will be great too). Maybe you can pair the crewneck tops you have with a longer necklace (and thus creating a V-neckline)?

Thank you for posting pics!

P.S. Your little boy is adorable!!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all your suggestions. I'm really working at learning what looks best on me & how to put it all together with flair. Any suggestions for accessories are always welcome, as that's one area I really struggle with.

I agree that scoop neck tops are way better on me, and I'm working on replacing the higher neck ones I have - hopefully I'll get some this week. I thought those jeans were ok until I saw the pictures. Yikes! It really does help to photograph your outfits! I'm working up my courage, and plan on buying boot cut jeans as my next jeans purchase. I've always been self consious of my upper thighs, but I'm slowly learning to truly love & embrace all my curves, and not just the ones immediately above & below my waist.

The grey sweater outfit was my fave too. I felt great wearing it, as you can tell in the pic. I also learned from looking at these pictures that my pose isn't terribly flattering, and I need to smile a little more. Hopefully future pics will be better!

Hi Christine, I am afraid I will have to agree with you that those jeans do not look to flattering, either in the cut or wash. I'd look for a uniform dark was, bootcut jeans instead.

I actually really like the denim blazer on you and with wear it with anything other than jeans. It would actually look really nice with your brown tweed skirt. That material would be great for both a pencil skirt and a vest.

The fourth outfit with grey sweater and scarf is my favorite too, you look great in it. And your son is adorable.

Hi Christine,
Love seeing your cute little boy.
I also love the fourth outfit. It seems to all come together for me. I agree with the suggestion about a lower neckline with the long cardigan. The sweater looks great on you and a pencil skirt would also look great. Belting certainly works with your figure!! The denim jacket seems to be a little bit big on you. I also think it might work better with a more contrasting color as a bottom. You are taking some great chances and a lot of the looks have great style possibilities! You are fortunate that you can sew. Please keep posting

Hi Christine, my favorite outfit too is the one with the gray sweater and scarf. The red shoes are also fantastic. Also, skinny belts look great on you and define your waist.

I think you would look great in a pair of jeans with a darker wash and a boot cut opening. A lot of ladies on here have expertise with a lot of different brands of jeans so hopefully they can provide more advice on specific brands.

I think the tweed skirt would look awesome as a pencil skirt. I like the plaid skirt too, but to me it would look better just an inch or two shorter and with a shorter sweater. You have a cute figure and you don't want it to get lost underneath your clothing.

It's great that you can sew. That will give you lots of possibilities for new outfits. I look forward to seeing more from you!

Hi Christine -- I applaud you for taking chances. It's hard to do that, isn't it? I suspect it gets easier with the kind of help the members of this forum provide.

My favorite is the fourth picture -- the last one on the top row. The scarf and shoes provide nice little zings of visual interest. Also you look sassy in that one with the way your arms are positioned -- very nice!

I would make one suggestion for the last outfit in the bottom row -- I think it would be more successful if the neckline of the white shirt under the cardi was not so high. I think it's usually more flattering for women to have a little more space between the top of the shirt collar and the base of your neck. It doesn't have to be lowcut, just a bit more scooped, kind of like the cami (I think it's a cami?) peeking out in the sassy photo.

Here are a few outfits from the last couple of weeks. Looking at them, I'm not sure my jeans really work. They are straight leg, but they look tapered in these pics?

I've been taking some chances on my outfits, and I'm not 100% sure they are working, so please let me know if something doesn't really work, or needs tweaking, or whatever.

The denim blazer in the second photo is a little bit of an orphan in my closet right now. It's a dark wash, and I'm not really sure what to wear it with. It was a $3 thrift store find, so I'm OK with tossing it.

The brown tweed skirt - does this skirt work? I think part of the problem is the sweater is too tight to be pulled down so far on the skirt. I made the skirt, but I have enough fabric left to do a pencil skirt, or I could make a waistcoat (like in the 5th picture). What do you guys think? I need to take a pic of the pencil skirt I made on the weekend so you can see.

Any comments are always welcome!
