Not much to add but I have enjoyed your post and the thread Shannon and always welcome your musings
And I wear trousers as little as possible too (apart from jeans). They are just never going to look as flattering as skirts and dresses.

Shannon, you are a treasure. I love your musings, your outfit posts and especially your warm smile. I feel completely opposite of you. I love pants and am so uncomfortable every time I try to wear a skirt or a dress so I really don't bother. I own one skirt and wear it once or twice a year. Enjoy them. Fashion should be fun, not work

I have a life-long poison eye for light-coloured pants, even at my slimmest & fittest. I just find that fit and figure problems are highlighted by lighter pants. While I appreciate they can be styled many ways, I also think that "beige" trousers are conservative and just not as interesting as your look.
When I saw those pics I thought that they looked good and fit quite well, but that you have so many outfits that just look way better! I know you could have styled them well but in the end... why? They just aren't you

Shannon, if that "road kill" vest were not so expensive (even now, even on super sale) I would be buying it for my daughter. She saw something similar in BR the other day and went bonkers. Actually, the one she saw was nicer...a utility vest with fur lining. But this is a girl with 0 interest in fashion. I got so excited I almost bought it for her there and then....hmmmmmm

Shannon, these could be my musings, too:-)). I'm completely (or more than 100%) with You!!! After discovering the comfort and figure flatering of a pencil and daydress, I'm so not more a trouser girl, either!!! I do have some pants(ponte skinnies, regular wide legs in wool, and some skinny jeans/capris) but that's all, and wear them so seldom, I'm not even interrested in the thema anymore. I find so fussy to fit them right on my figure that I decided doesn't worth the hassle. I'm so much happier in my skirts and dresses, be it winter or summer time! Agree about blacks, too:-))

I hear you! Musing is good to gain clarity and focus.

One of the things about style is, it can be work, but at some point it shouldn't be TOO much work. So branching out is good, but I like your concept of, some style directions take too much effort to achieve the overall desired look. That's not lazy, that's common sense! There are so many style options available, there will be lots of "looks" to try.

I didn't comment on your khaki pants post, but I came to a related realization regarding khaki trousers, myself.

I love khaki and stone-colored pants in twill or in lightweight wool, or anything. Love the colors they can be paired with. Have worn them in all types of pants for years. But, I bat intermittently for team back view, and it ain't getting better back there, and I don't like it when I've got booty wrinkles bulges or VPL's or other "issues" back there, or at least, not if I can minimize it. The reality is, light-colored pants show up all imperfections, relative to darker colors--at least in me. Plus, the proportions of jacket over pants--now that shorter jackets are more common (but that's changing) is a bit less forgiving wearing dark jacket over lighter pants--my pear-shape seems more emphasized in that combo.

So, I haven't given up all khaki's, especially for very casual wear, but I realized that every time I bought light-colored work trousers, I just had more styling dilemmas than I wanted, because I needed that look to be more polished. Different issues than you noted for you, but similar concept in some ways--there are just better and less difficult looks.

Shannon keep your musings coming...I so appreciate them. I am not so good at articulating my own goals and/or personal style observations and I do find when you share yours it helps me find words for mine:). I relate to a number of your comments and in the spirit of transparency I have to share that figure flattery and particularly looking slim is probably my number one style goal! I'm not as heavy as I have been but I'm also not as slim as I have been and this factors into my dressing every day. From your comments can I assume I am chatting with a sister lifetime member of WW? Best thing I ever did to get on track with healthy eating xx

Keep musing away please ! You are such a thoughtful and imaginative dresser, always working on your wardrobe to try new things and adapt them to suit your own likes and lifestyle. We all develop style preferences over time, but sometimes they become habit rather than pleasure. I'm often too quick to dismiss new trends for myself, and I admire you for road testing them, with such glee! ( I'm thinking of the fake fur/ road kill vest....)

Shannon;

I'm always impressed by how you (and Kari!) can really rock a dress, and how dresses always tend to look meh on me. Funny, huh? Not that I can even rock dress trousers; I think they give most women problems. Since you are able to wear heels and heeled booties and boots, you may as well sport a look that shows them off! (She says with more than a tinge of envy while frowning at her super fussy feet.)

I find it so funny when posters say they find dresses so much more comfortable than pants since the complete opposite is true for me! Of course, it didn't help when my last memory of wearing a dress was racing four blocks in a tight sheath and heels in order to make it in time to DD's graduation. . .I LOVE how different strokes work for different folks!!! Our differences make the world so much more interesting.

Well, it's interesting about the trousers. I've yet to see a pants WIW where you don't look smashing. I find it a very sophisticated look on you. At the same time, to be quite honest, I'm not sure who you are when I see you in pants. I don't understand where you're going in them - literally. To dinner, the office, cream scones at Neiman's? I don't know how to explain that.

I am so glad you shared your musings Shannon. I agree with Inge when she wrote "This is one of the brilliant things about YLF and being able to share outfits and ponderings with the other forum members: I've found that it really helps to get to the bottom of my own style, preferences and style persona. I definitely can see things a lot more clearly with all your help:-)"

Your posts are always a treat visually & I particularly love reading this type of post (about the style journeys of other YLFers) I find them really inspiring.

I think fit & structure become more & more important for me as I get older but I am more inclined to forego a little flattery to be more comfortable in my skin. Unfortunately, black is no longer working for me the way it definitely works for you.

Also I wanted to add that although the right pants may be hard for you to find when you do you always look fabulous in them.

Applauding your comment Suz!
Shannon, I wonder how many women, if they were completely honest, would say that weight and appearance play a part in personal .. I'm not sure if happiness is a good word but maybe fulfillment? I think a very high percentage. I know that you have had your ups and downs, not because I can see, but because you have told us. I really admire that you have not let it get you down and you still dress well and take such good care of your appearance. So many women tend to go the easier route of 'comfort clothes' , as in sweats and big t shirts. You, however, have continued to wow us with stunning outfits and a winning attitude. I know I have only commented to a small part of your musings but I didn't want this reply to become a novel:-)

Ha! Just because one pair of pants didn't work for you doesn't mean you're not a pants girl! I think you look great every day. Even your days that are not killer are fun and I love that you push yourself every single day. As you know, I am also an apple petite. I am small but well padded. If I am not careful I can easily look like I am 6 months pregnant. That's what got me here in the first place.... so I completely understand your wanting clothes that are figure flattering.

I think we have quite a lot in common in regards of our preferences for shape, fit and quality, Shannon! Trousers make me feel the same way as you, more or less. They are so hard to fit! I like my dark straight jeans, and I have a few others too, but my heart is never in it. I feel so much better in skirts and dresses.

FIgure flattery and quality are the most important aspects of a garment, I totally agree. Denise's comment about poor quality not being age appropriate also resonates with me. I recently returned two skirts from a low-end retailer because the quality was really lousy.

Colorwise, I'm with you for the most part. I think black is good on me, too, but I avoid too much black up against my face. I think it looks better on you. We have many similar thoughts about these matters!

I never think of you as overweight. All I see is a very feminine, stylish, beautiful and smiling woman who shares and inspires every single time she posts in the forum. I understand that you have issues with this, because I hear you. Here's how I see it: You've come a long way dealing with your weight, and I'm sure you will handle it very well in the future, too. You determination, reflections and honesty proves that.

I don't know what to do without YLF either, our precious place where you play a very important role to so many. I enjoyed reading your musings very much. Thanks for putting these thoughts into words!

I really enjoyed reading your musings, Shannon, thanks so much for sharing this with us. This is one of the brilliant things about YLF and being able to share outfits and ponderings with the other forum members: I've found that it really helps to get to the bottom of my own style, preferences and style persona. I definitely can see things a lot more clearly with all your help:-)

And I think where you are now is a great place to be fashionwise: knowing what you love, what you feel best in and refining your own style even further is pretty priceless - and it will make shopping easier and even more fun in the future.

I understand feeling sassy in dresses and skirts and since starting my blog, I keep writing how much I love them. Yesterday I wore just a simple t'shirt dress with tights and boots and pranced around all day. Pants never make me feel like dancing....

Regardless of weight I feel this way.... I say wear dresses and skirts and twirl and dance and embrace life no matter what the scale says....

I haven't been on the forum in awhile, but I just wanted to say, I think you look GREAT every time I see a picture of you. I understand about the weight thing, but don't let it get u down. I've lost and gained weight in the last year or so, and it's frustrating, but I'm trying to focus on what I haven't gained back

Shannon, these are some excellent realizations. As you were posting about the camel trousers, even though I actually think they looked darn good on you, I was also thinking: Hmmm....she enjoys wearing dresses and skirts so much and has less trouble wearing them....maybe this trouser thing isn't worth the hassle. Of course I also understand how in windy Winnipeg, a girl needs coverage! But I absolutely understand the need to fall back on the tried and true silhouettes. Especially when we're under stress (as you are) and when we are in the process of losing or gaining weight.

Also, you look sensational in black and there is absolutely no reason not to wear it.

DC - I don't feel lke I have to explain why I don't wear trousers. I'm just thinking out loud, you know?

Okay, I hope I word this right way: You shouldn't have to explain to us why you don't wear trousers. If you feel more comfortable wearing dresses and skirts then by all means do so. You look and I'm sure FEEL great in those outfits and that's all that matters in the end.

And I totally agree with you about black. It's been a staple all my life and will never change.
