I'm not a huge fan of boyfriend jeans in general, so I'm not commenting on this one, but I think this denin skirt really works perfectly for you and I like your strappy sandals a lot. I particularly love the two of them together, but I think they ask for a more casual or warmer top. Maybe a patterned blouse or a shirt in a warmer color?

There are so many replies here I know mine are way after the fact, but I always like your style Ingunn, and this post is interesting. Regarding the denim skirt, you're right (and I know others have already said this ) - that whole 70's button front look is definitely trending for spring. This one fits you, but I think it needs to be styled differently in order to look new and modern . I like the idea of them too, but my experience with denim skirts is no matter which era /style period I'm buying one in, I never end up wearing it. I don't like they way they ride up and bunch up in front when one is sitting. But anyways - those sandals are great, and I like the jeans too. The jeans look far better on you than they do in the model. Wear them another season, then you'll be ready for something else anyways at that point. Sorry if I'm just repeating what everyone else has said - but thanks for the opportunity to chime in

I like the denim skirt! It looks retro '70's to me and I love that.
The sandals with the wide ankle strap look super fab and I would wear them with everything. Wear those with a circle skirt and you've got a great retro 50's look.
My eye is adjusting to high rise jeans. The proportions look off on long legged but short waisted me, but I think the proportions look perfect on you. I'd keep those too!

Marley, I've been thinking the same about hemming the jeans. But how do I keep the original hemline if I do that? I like the slight distressing on it.

The A-line denim button-front skirt is very now where I live! (a nod to the '70's trend, I'm sure.) I think the skirt looks great on you and I'd definitely keep. Also, love the jeans. The only thing I'd consider doing is hemming them rather than rolling them. To me, that gives them a much more sophisticated and sleek line - a good step-up from your distressed BF's. The sandals are a no-brainer! Keep!

Thank you for the styling suggestions, ladies! When I get around to it, I'll definitely try with a more 70's styled sandals or boots, and a sweater. I don't think I own any 70ish blouses or shirts - yet! Or maybe - would leopard work?

AJ, yes, the skirt is knee length, not midi. The store marketed it as midi though, but we know better of course ;)

I'd love to see the skirt with a slightly more 70s/boho styling, as came up in the other thread. I know that's not really your style, but I'm thinking subtle tweaks. Cognac footwear, a patterned blouse in a softer fabric?

I'm glad that you are keeping the lot. My wardrobe would not function without a denim skirt. On me a dark wash pencil shape is my favorite, but I really like the A-line shape on others. This one fits you beautifully and is a flattering length.

All keepers! Great jeans. Love the denim skirt on you. And your sandals are very similar to a black strappy pair I've worn heavily for several years. The perfect architectural 'grounding' to many summer looks. I loathe a wishy washy black sandal.

Rabbit, thank you! I find that we often believe the opposite to be true, and many Norwegians look to North America for trends and inspiration. I wonder why this is so.

Thank you for the kind comments, E, Elle and Carla!

Kkards, thanks! It's the same here, I looked for similar sandals last year, but no luck. Regarding the jeans, I think they are wearable with ankle booties in the fall, so that won't be an issue. The fabric is substantial enough for fall, too.

Love the skirt, and I think Anna posted something very similar recently. Also love the sandals, and I hope they are still current, as that look is just starting to show up where I live! I like, however, I wonder if the length will work in the fall or will these jeans be limited to spring, and does thst change anything?

Ditto what TransconaSharon said - about the sandals, AND the jeans. The fading on the thighs doesn't detract, and they are worth keeping for the rear view!

I think they all look good. I'm not sure that the jeans look significantly different than something you already have though (to my less educated denim eye, I defer to Cocolion on all things denim.)

The skirt has a very pleasing length and shape on you. I think Katya has a great idea about trying different top shapes.

I think some fashion-eye things are so location specific (in a very very broad generalization, I feel like it may be that parts of Europe are far ahead of the curve of middle America, and therefore what looks 'old' to middle America might have been gone so long from general wear in Europe that it's a retro revival rather than a holdover. For example there was a time when 70's wear looked really dated because it was still fully stocked in thrift stores and there were plenty of people still wearing it. But it's now been 40 years, and it does look fresh. It may be that a fair amount of non-urban center America is still wearing some late 80's 90's and a lot of early millennium wear for example).

The sandals work well in all the looks and the ankle strap echoes the belt nicely.

I think you look great in all of these. And I do like the denim skirt, but I wonder if it would look more modern with a different top. Perhaps something with shorter sleeves and without buttons. I have an A-line denim skirt and find that it does not work with my button-downs. Just a thought based on my own limited experience.

Suz, the sandals are Vagabond, and I'd be incredibly happy to help you get them. Please don't hesitate to ask! Thank you for the supportive verdict on my denim pieces.

I love the sandals and want to know what they are! Not that I will be able to get them here, but I would love to try. :)

I like the jeans a lot, too, and if they don't duplicate your others, I say keep.

As for the skirt, I think you can style it to be very current. It looks good on you and will be useful. I have a bit of a worry about denim skirts with button fronts, having suffered unpleasant sensations of "bulge" with them in the past, but the new fabrics probably lie better. I would do a sit and stand test to see, though.

Isabel, thank you for your kind comment. I'm not giving away these pieces, but contemplating if I should keep them or return them to the stores. I'm sorry for not making that clear.

Kiwigal, thank you! Another vote for keeping the lot. I think both the jeans and the skirts are a lot closer to be keepers by now :)

You look great in all these pieces. The sandals are wonderful...I bought some black flat sandals this summer and they have been such a great useful item. Definitely keep!

I like these jeans on you. I think they are flattering and fashionable. The wash does have a couple of faded patches but only you can decide if that bothers you or not.

I think the skirt fits with the 70s look....I have a soft spot for A line denim skirts...to me they are more comfortable than denim shorts, and can be worn in a bigger variety of settings.

The only thing I don't like about the jeans is the placement of the high thigh faded patches which look kind of odd and decidedly unnatural.. The skirt is cute, and I don't even like denim skirts, but this one fits you so well, the length is great and it lies flat in the front and the back.. the sandals look great too and I see no problem with wearing them with skirts.
I'm wondering what prompted the misgivings about these things? Maybe you just got all the wear you want out of them and they could go on to someone else who'd enjoy them more?

Love the new jeans, actually I like them more than your existing jeans. Also the skirt and sandals look great on you. I don't think the sandals look dated at all, I think this trend is hanging on for a while. Maybe ask this same question next year? They look modern and they are not stumpifying.

The sandals are great! I'm not sure of the skirt or the jeans to be honest. I think skirts like that take some careful but adventurous styling to make them look current, but I may just be showing my skepticism about norm core looks. :-)

I confess, I'm not a big fan of the jeans because of the defined faded spots, but keep in mind that those spots at the thigh are the first thing to jump out at me because I'm sensitive about that area on myself. If you don't mind that, the fit looks properly boyfriend-y. I kinda think you could find better ones, but that is just me.

Lyn and Laura, thanks for your input. I think the feel of the jeans is very different from the oleo bf's, it is a much heavier fabric, which I like about them.

The response to the skirt puzzles me a bit, because in our local magazines and websites (the Scandinavian ones), an A-line denim skirt with buttons is a "must-have". Too funny - I who thought I was channeling a cool Alexa Chung-ish style in that skirt :D Seriously, though, I totally get what you mean, the photos show perhaps something else than what I was after (a bit of 70's glam). I suppose it needs a lot of modernizing with styling and supporting acts to pull it off the way I'd like to, and it is maybe not worthwhile.

Love these all. Great fit for the clothes but esp the ankle strap sandals. I have a pair in navy (and small wedge) and I. JUST. LOVED. THEM. and wore with everything!
